I remember seeing a Scopitone machine only once.....in a pizza parlor sometime in the late 1960s. BEFORE the widespread use of 'videotape'......these things were big jukeboxes with screens ( usually located in bars or men's clubs ) and the 'musical numbers' were all on film stock. 99% of them look like they were done in only a couple of takes. The dancers are ALWAYS out of sync. They ALL have the scantily-clad 'dancers'. CHEESY choreography. I think at their peak....HERE in the U.S., there were only about 600 of those machines. The prime example of how BAD these things could get.....Joi Lansing- Web Of Love. ( She was known as the Queen of Scopitones.)
Exclusively seen on "film jukeboxes" in Europe (similar to the "Soundies" produced in the U.S. during the '40s, with more accent towards feminine "pulchritude"). This was originally released in 1966.
Bobby Vee had a baby face in this video! This tune was recorded in 1960, released in 1961, and this Scopitone music video (on damaged 16mm film) was made in 1965, filmed on Malibu Beach, California.
That's INCORRECT, Vee recorded 'Baby Face' at a 6 song recording session which took place at United on March 17, 1961. The song was a #4 hit for him on the Australian Top 40 charts that same year.
This is really bizarre i'm sure 1965 this was out of fashion. But now we can watch Bobby Vee and the girls in colour because of the very late making of this media clip
