I just love Rachelle Rak. She absolutely OWNS this song -- this might as well be her trademark. I think it sort of is! I met her in a workshop she did in Minneapolis on tour with Flashdance, and I just think the world of her -- she's sassy yet sweet, tough yet generous, and so, so fabulous. Her performance in Fosse rocked.
I love the story Rachelle Rak tells on the Gwen Verdon retrospective. Rachelle was originally an understudy to the original cast of Fosse and Gwen noticed her and they decided to make her the understudy for this song. After many notes, tips, and comments from Gwen, Rachelle did a run-through of this with Gwen sitting in the sound booth watch. Apparently Gwen told one of the assistant directors, "She's great! 100 percent trash!" Rachelle loved that comment and t-shirts were made. It's quite an achievement to receive a compliment from Gwen Verdon.
This was the first version of this song I’ve ever seen, and I met her in person this week! She works with Starbound Talent Competition, and choreographed the special opening number I learned at Nationals. How cool I got a picture with her!!!
Just saw this lying in hospital bed after a hip replacement redo. Contagious energy__she had me moving shoulders with her as it is the only part I can move right now. Had the feeling I had seen her before and the comments made me realize she was the one I could not believe they passed over for the role of Shiela in the documentary of casting Chorus LIne.
There's no competition here. This version wipes Liza right off the map. It's funnier, sexier, and the two boys are better. If you love this, get the DVD of 'Fosse' The image is much clearer than it is here and the entire show, filmed in the theater, is off the charts brilliant. Rachelle, you gorgeous girl - this belongs to you now. Permanently.
I'm so sorry but I must disagree with you. Wipes if off the map? Hardly, Liza does Liza doing Fosse like no other. This in not to say that Rachel isn't good but these two are in two different categories. ruclips.net/video/uEDI2UDIelE/видео.html
I LOVE this! My dance studio had this as the closing number and it is very similar. I think this dance is VERY well done. I do think I prefer this than the original. Well, anyway, it's an amazing number! ;D
What I love about this one is she is having so. much. fun. Also, cannot picture Liza doing this. Just...cannot picture her being that...earthy? There's an ethereal element to Liza even when she's doing something down and dirty, somehow. Also, thank you very much!
Muchas felicidades y bendiciones por presentar estos vídeos excelentes con grandes cantantes y bailarines...con la maestría de Bob Foose..y la Reyna Liza Minnelli.
rachelle is brilliant, i have no doubt if fosse was alive he would love the hair and the way it's used as a prop. more scope for more detail, that's what it's all about. top drawer performance 10/10 in my book.
Haha I used to watch this DVD and think that Ben Vereen was the dark guy in this number....then I saw all the leaps and tricks they had to do and was like "oh...silly me!" ;)
@NatePredmoreMusic Hair-ography??? I know you are loyal to Liza M. but please lets give credit. Rachelle is a trained dancer /singers who is a legend in theatre/musicals in her own right. I loved her performance.
man, think about how athletic those guys have to be. they're sliding around that stage, and taking those weird ministeps on their toes @ 2:08....AND it's choreography.
lol hair-ography, don't insult great dancing, fosse dancing is all about the arms and head, she's supposed to flick her head like that, it's just that Liza had a seriously short bob that she had no hair to manipulate. Don't insult Rachelle either, bet you couldn't do what she does.
What makes you say that? I'm not attacking your assessment, it's just that they're both terrifically talented and I'm wondering why she should have "hands down" been given the role. I've had the privilege of seeing both perform live and would have had a very difficult time choosing between two such talented ladies.
I can't address the egocentric issue. My video description may not be clear. This is a song/dance that originally appeared in the 1972 show "Liza With a 'Z'" - but was revived as part of the 1999 show "Fosse" (released on DVD in 2002). Other than perhaps providing the rights to use the song and choreography, Liza was not involved in this performance.
This was good. Not as good as Liza, but she made it her own which was good. Didn't want to see anyone imitate Liza when no one can compare to her. She did her own thing but it was still good. Nicely done.
She is WAAAY better than Liza here! Come on - the dance talent of all three is so superior in 'Fosse' to Liza with a Z'. Love Liza, but Rachelle makes this deliciously funny, and much sexier.
No disrespect to Liza Minelli but this version is so much better. Maybe its just the time periods they were performed in, i don't know, but I find myself really getting into this one.
Not a single verse was performed better then Liza imo. This person can dance great but she's not even close to having the natural vocal talent of Liza. Not to mention that this performance was thought of, choreographed and rehearsed YEARS after the original so of course it will have more contemporary stuff added to it such as the hairography. I'm saying this not to take anything away from her (she did amazing) but just as a response to you because I see you've been leaving multiple comments that totally invalidate the amazing work and talents of Liza which is not only unnecessary but also disrespectful. Who are you to pitch two women against each other?
A great energetic and clean performance by Rachelle but I prefer Liza M's 1972 version. That amazing orange-red mini dress Liza wore as she danced hugged her curves and made her openly suggestive dancing just that bit more earthy. LIza's expressive face, especially her sexy mouth was also a part of her performance.
I'm sorry, but Rachelle Rak brought so much more energy and finesse to this piece than you-know-who. LM really didn't have the strength or subtlety to pull this number off (IMAO). Although, I agree her red outfit rocked.
nocount1 And yet, Fosse created the piece _on_ Liza, which is to say: if not for Liza, the piece probably wouldn't exist. It says on the screen: _Liza With a Z,_ not "Piece Bob Fosse Created On Some Rando."
Is the choreography towards the end different? Liza's is so delightfully skanky. This one not so much, although it's nice . . Liza's red costume helped, too.

My favorite Fosse number ever. Rachelle is amazing and her two backup dancers are outstanding.
It's quite an achievement to receive a compliment from Gwen Verdon.
Wait where did she say this? Can I watch somewhere?
I could not enough of Fosse on Broadway -- I literally saw it 5 times. Fantastic!

I can't get over how amazing this is
Rachelle Rak is an icon!
Love this so much! Did a tribute to it!

She performs this perfectly
SHE WAS ON DANCE MOMS. I love her. She's my FAVORITE. AH.
I don't remember her on Dance Moms but she was on Abby's competetion
What I love about this one is she is having so. much. fun.
Also, cannot picture Liza doing this. Just...cannot picture her being that...earthy? There's an ethereal element to Liza even when she's doing something down and dirty, somehow.

Muchas felicidades y bendiciones por presentar estos vídeos excelentes con grandes cantantes y bailarines...con la maestría de Bob Foose..y la Reyna Liza Minnelli.
@Andromaches awesome that somebody knows who originally wrote this song...most people think it was liza...typical, we are in america
She's Gonna Be On Dance Moms Next Week!
I bet if i got a perm my hair would look just like that!! it's such a hot look and i love tight curls, wish my hair was still like that.
rachelle is brilliant, i have no doubt if fosse was alive he would love the hair and the way it's used as a prop. more scope for more detail, that's what it's all about. top drawer performance 10/10 in my book.
Rachelle is my cousin, and her sis, m other cousin, is my godmother... so proud of rachelle
I'm just jealous that it isn't showing here in Pittsburgh! It's Rachelle's hometown, and none of us have seen it yet!
Love her❤
Haha I used to watch this DVD and think that Ben Vereen was the dark guy in this number....then I saw all the leaps and tricks they had to do and was like "oh...silly me!" ;)
she always works that hair. it's her trademark.
She was the singer of Activate - Vision album (1994)
@NatePredmoreMusic Hair-ography??? I know you are loyal to Liza M. but please lets give credit. Rachelle is a trained dancer /singers who is a legend in theatre/musicals in her own right. I loved her performance.
Great performance

agreed my cousin rachelle is amazing

I just saw Every Little Step last night... she should have been Sheila hands down.
I agree. To me, she WAS Sheila. She was so natural.
Way to go Sas!!!
This was good. Not as good as Liza, but she made it her own which was good. Didn't want to see anyone imitate Liza when no one can compare to her. She did her own thing but it was still good. Nicely done.

Like comparing apples to oranges. Liza is Liza and there is no comparison. @@jochenstossberg5427
I really wish they would have brought back Shannon for this.
lol that's what Christi on dance moms said too!!
I love her
I liked the tick that liza did on her version at 234 so I'm gonna give liza manelli a slight edge
Ken rocks. Gorgeous guy
She’s channeling Tina Turner!
@NatePredmoreMusic Rachelle Rak is a great dancer, just look at Mein Herr and other performances she's done, she's been trained!
yes!
No disrespect to Liza Minelli but this version is so much better. Maybe its just the time periods they were performed in, i don't know, but I find myself really getting into this one.
She was good but Liza owns it. :)
@@Luv2u01 Not any longer, unfortunately. This girl is so much better in every way. The two boys are way better too frankly.

Nah, it isn’t. The charisma and energy of Liza is unmatched, also comes out of her naturally
she is workin that hair
Hmm... I never thought I'd say this but it's actually much more interesting to look at a voluptuous body than a... skinny body.
Liza looks like a librarian compared to Rachelle doing this number. This version has real heat. and wit - which Liza doesn't have in her version.
Those guys are players.

Where can I find the MP3 ?
Unsurpassed Liza.
There probably aren't many Directioners watching this but doesn't Rachelle kind of look like Danielle?
@dcr3102 she is the OPPOSITE of stiff! She is workin it!
Is the choreography towards the end different? Liza's is so delightfully skanky. This one not so much, although it's nice . . Liza's red costume helped, too.
Omg this is the chick who auditioned for A Chorus Line, but didn't get it
prefiero a Liza Mineli mil veces mas que a esta, pero no lo hace mal
People people please no one will have the charm Liza has and if you think this is
better tell it to liza face and lets see if you have the balls!
@jeanemail7 totally agree
La original era Liza , que pena
bewitching ....
Delete the Liza version
replica
Liza is light years better
Not as good as Liza! Not even close to her!
She doesn't get it... she's way too stiff!!
Rachelle comes first after Liza
