Honestly, Sirius is probably one of my favorite characters that pulled of the "betrayal card", because his design and personality really worked in misleading you to a point where you'd never expect him to completely trick and backstab you all together for his own intentions with Altair who is considerably the lesser evil in this scenario and he used you as a weapon to dominate his rivalry. His dialogue or the rest of the story may not hold up, but his betrayal sure as hell did and still left an impact on me even now.
The only other similar vidya character that has this sort of grudging admiration from me is Darth Traya from star wars KOTOR 2. I believe this is a trope called "true antagonist under your nose the whole time" (something like that)--and yes they almost all invariably, inevitably betray you. Sirius is similar, though Darth Traya still creeps me the fuck out.
It’s one of the few instances of betrayal that I never, ever anticipated or even considered possible in storytelling or otherwise. Yeah, the narrative of the game is nothing to marvel at but Sirius’s betrayal was actually done really well. He’s absent, never does much of anything except be helpful, and then out of nowhere his palace (something which was never alluded to) becomes accessible after the player gathers all the gold cards which makes their relevance towards the player finally explained upon completing the collection of them. That was pretty cool.
Imagine this: The first time I played this game was when I was 8 years old. I went through the entire game except collecting the 100 Gold Cards (I got like 80). When I was in my 2nd year of collegue (I was 22), I manage to get all 100. My shock when I knew Sirius was the bad guy all along was incredible.
@@svin7987 Yeah, I’ve wondered that too! If I were to make up a reason for the sake of the plot, it would have been to use all of them to deactivate Altair’s entire base, sector by sector (hence multiple gold cards). Then, Altair’s minions become powerless to interfere, and he and Regulus can’t even escape because the emergency exits are locked, which enables Sirius to attack and take the Omni Cube.
6:35 I just love how bomberman casually watches Sirius disintegrate Altair to mere atoms without interfering. Talk about who the real psychopath is here...
Joseph Wagner ...After that, normal stages become somewhat eerily... Have you tried playing the training miniboss fight, the one where Sirius teached you to fight? Just play that after the betrayal. There will be _something_ off.
I was so mad to learn several years later that I never got the real ending. I just randomly was like "what happened to that one cool bomber, Sirius? Wasn't he a good guy?" WRONG. Betrayed after 15+ years! LOL
I remember i have this N64 games as my Christmas present gift during 2002 of Christmas as 8 year old kid and I love it while I playing this game. About Sirius, as 8 year old kid. I thought he was Bomberman's best friend at first. Around 2009 later during I turn 15 year old teenager, I saw this scene clip on RUclips that I felt so shocked that Sirius betraying Bomberman for collection 100 gold cards.
3:49 It never occurred to me that you can do that, I had thought the only way to hit Altair with a pumped bomb was to toss at him while he does that crossed shockwave attack. I also liked 0:39 where Altair just hit vega with a kicked bomb like he was saying "Stop it."
Damn...this makes me really angry, because I was never able to get all these gold cards as a kid. Funny how even when I played this game during my childhood I knew Sirius was up to something, and the "normal" ending always disappointed me...I felt like I was missing out, and I was. I'm still too chicken to try and brave Rainbow Palace though...that stage looks beyond frustrating. Still, Sirius is an awesome villain, and I want to see how I do against him. Probably the best use of "Light is Not Good" I've seen in a game (yes, I'm a troper :3)
Big Robot Guy with Cheesy Socks Rainbow palace? Frustrating? Stage 1 sucks the most. The miniboss is awesome. Stage 3 is awesome. Sirius Stage... overwhelming. But don't forget the hidden costume parts in this area.
Sypaka Oh nice. Yeah that first stage looks like hell because of all the damn drops and how you have to bounce across lines of your own pumped bombs and stuff. I was never good at that in the game. But yeah, Stage 3 looks actually pretty fun.
Big Robot Guy with Cheesy Socks Used to use bomb jumps a lot. I can even use that without any elevated platforms straight from the ground xD Well, when you are a teen, you have lots of time on your hands.
I just got to this scene 15 years later of having the game. My mind was blown away. Now I just need a time machine to blow away my mind as a child too. Sirius always made me feel awkward. lol
Sirirus, you complete and utter bastard... He reminds me of Cross from Radiata Stories in that department, as well as Zero for the big bonus boss plot twist, especially since doing that is pretty hard. :p As for the betrayal thing, I can't remember something that comes close to this at the moment, this is literally one of the top 10 craziest unexpected things for me. XD
I still think this is one of the greatest plot twists in N64 history. You're shown Sirius' battle in the intro, and you don't even realize what it is. It just looks neat. Sirius just looks like a cool ally. And then when you see this scene, your jaw is left hanging.
I always wished for a bomberman's anime adaptation based on this game because bomberman jetters was good but not enough in my opinion. I also look back and think about how awesome would have been if bomberman had been in smash 64, hopefully someday they throw him into the roster.
So all this time when i played Bomberman 64 when i was a kid Sirius which i thought he was supposed to be our ally but its revealed that he is the real villain here all this time not Altair not to mention he told all those lies about what happened totally didn't see that coming
Sirius's betrayal is similar to how Liquid disguised himself as Miller in MGS1 (when Campbell revealed that the real Miller was murdered a few days prior)
Of course setting the bombs to low power prevents Altair from getting hit allowing you time to make and throw a pumbed up bomb. Thank you. I could only do it through sheer luck...again.
I was going to suggest throwing Altair off, but I saw youre trying to get all Gold Cards and doing that tactic kinda ruins it. I wish I could do that to Orion though...but he recovers too damn quick.
Wait! I shouldn't have said his name! He's so evil, so sinister, so horribly vile. He must NOT EVER even be acknowledged by noun OR name (unlike another villain you might know). Regulus ONLY described him by pronoun ("First, I need to get rid of him!!")
Yeah I beat the final boss, but Sirius is the true final boss that I never encountered and he fooled me. For he was just laying low till he get his true power back >.
It's kyogus's theme in bomberman 64. when he is spying on the girls that are hot & sexy tina, lash and the 10 sorority anthro furry animals gals (known the delta from beast & breast house) they won't let him getaway with this not with jay. jayson costor on the hero's office of dexomel if a person called 3891-621-1987 the company of dexomel I will send my heroes to take down all of the villains that's what heroes do fight em and take all of the villains to justice so they can stay in planet's prison. What!!! a prison on the planet is this for real.
"Corny Lies"
I like how he points that out about a lot of helper type characters
Honestly, Sirius is probably one of my favorite characters that pulled of the "betrayal card", because his design and personality really worked in misleading you to a point where you'd never expect him to completely trick and backstab you all together for his own intentions with Altair who is considerably the lesser evil in this scenario and he used you as a weapon to dominate his rivalry. Magolor is another example of such behavior
Imagine this: The first time I played this game was when I was 8 years old. I went through the entire game except collecting the 100 Gold Cards (I got like 80). When I was in my 2nd year of collegue (I was 22), I manage to get all 100. My shock when I knew Sirius was the bad guy all along was incredible.
holy shiz lol wild
There's no explanation of why you need the gold cards.
@@svin7987 Yeah, I’ve wondered that too! The *baddest guy
True story(IIRC): the official strategy guide tells you to collect the 100 cards, but it never tells you what happens if you do collect them all!
To make matters worse, it's revealed Sirius actually trapped THOUSANDS OF ENTIRE GALAXIES in the Omni Cube before the events of the game.
5:16 gave me a good laugh.
6:35 I just love how bomberman casually watches Sirius disintegrate Altair to mere atoms without interfering. Talk about who the real psychopath is here...
In White Bomber's defense, the bastard had it coming.
I think white bomber was trying to process what the hell just happened.
Never before had I felt such betrayal.
Joseph Wagner ...After that, normal stages become somewhat eerily...
Have you tried playing the training miniboss fight, the one where Sirius teached you to fight? Just play that after the betrayal. There will be _something_ off.
boss battles yo just get remote power up in a case instead of him dropping it ooff
I feel trolled more than betrayed because I had no idea that Sirius was the true main villain and final boss of the game this whole time
This is one trolling game because I had no idea that Sirius was the true main villain this whole time
"You wanna fight me?!"
That line always gets me.
SIRIUS, THAT'S JUST BRUTAL, you could've just left him half alive like he was! 6:39
Blackmoth12 Don’t you get it? He was evil all along.
I was so mad to learn several years later that I never got the real ending. I just randomly was like "what happened to that one cool bomber, Sirius? Wasn't he a good guy?" WRONG. Betrayed after 15+ years! LOL
"When did you learn not to trust anybody because people ain't shit"
Me:
The way he says “oouh” is hilarious
0:25 "YA WANNA FIGHT ME???!!!"
11 year old me was so enamored by those lines
"Playtime is over!" *fuses with Vega* "I'LL FINISH YOU!!!" 😡
0:38 Altair really just kicked a bombed towards Vega 😐 🤣
Rest in peace, Hudson Soft...

One of my favorite boss fights ever.
The intro is so epic. YOU WANNA FIGHT ME!!!! Classic
One of the best plot twists ever

Used to use bomb jumps a lot. I can even use that without any elevated platforms straight from the ground xD

Sypaka true, true.
Sirius is a Complete Monster, too
I just got to this scene 15 years later of having the game. My mind was blown away. Now I just need a time machine to blow away my mind as a child too. Sirius always made me feel awkward. lol
Sirius was such a badass. Playing all of us for a fool.
Sirirus, you complete and utter bastard...
He reminds me of Cross from Radiata Stories in that department, as well as Zero for the big bonus boss plot twist, especially since doing that is pretty hard. :p
As for the betrayal thing, I can't remember something that comes close to this at the moment, this is literally one of the top 10 craziest unexpected things for me. XD
that laugh Sirius made after getting the Omni cube back, gave little kid me nightmares.
Because Sirius & Altair were both evil from the start lol Sirius was just the smarter one, getting Bomberman to help out.
Top 10 Anime Betrayals
I can't believe that I've been played a fool from the very start. Sirius was evil all along.
Sirius was very smart. He posed as a friend, yet worked as a spy.
5:15 XD
***** That was the best moment xD
That's why I love Bomberman 64 xD
0:37 Stupid Siede kick xDD
What a bombastic plot twist huh?
who needs a sparta kick if you can do it like sirius.
Love when Sirius comes outta nowhere & knocks them down lol
its freakin hard to get all of the custom costumes
I still think this is one of the greatest plot twists in N64 history. You're shown Sirius' battle in the intro, and you don't even realize what it is. It just looks neat. Sirius just looks like a cool ally. And then when you see this scene, your jaw is left hanging.

fucking epic, one of the best plot twists in any game, even for the fact that you wouldnt expect a bomberman game to have such a good story
Seriously... You wanna fight me?!
I never knew he was the last boss
5:16. Genius. Joking aside its one of the reasons I loved this game.
The first half was so intense with the music and all
So all this time when i played Bomberman 64 when i was a kid Sirius which i thought he was supposed to be our ally but its revealed that he is the real villain here all this time not Altair not to mention he told all those lies about what happened totally didn't see that coming
Playtime is over
they shoulda renamed this game to "See how many Different Ways to Die 64"
Great joke man
... You wanna fight mEE?...
man i remember playin dis game when i was 8.. i struggled getting to him on that level took like 2 days
epic battle indeed and really memorable
Somehow, all these villains are just awesome!
Something you would NEVER see in a mainstream Super Mario game.
6:42 and he gone
Sirius's betrayal is similar to how Liquid disguised himself as Miller in MGS1 (when Campbell revealed that the real Miller was murdered a few days prior)
You just reminded me this: Playtime is over, Star Fox! :)
Sirius. How Could You?
Friend or Foe...?
Foe!! Hahaha!
Top 10 anime betrayals.
How the hell do you get all 100 gold cards anyway? ._. Game is hard, especially with the timed gold cards...
Sounds like he's channeling Christopher Walken if I say so myself.
i like that sirius comes and rescue omni cube. sirius laughing 6:22
4:08, 5:13 (Bug Sound off), 5:16 jajaja funny Moments
when you finish this step not only escaped that lacks
No I meant being able to change to all of the costumes. Completely unrelated to Rainbow Palace
You could just toss him off the edge
you are right, altair is so badass
3:51 When you get 3 cards, why don't you kick the bomb to stun Altair and throw him out the platform? It should be done faster.
XTR idgaf I see :o
You don't get gold card #4 if you do it that way.
I wonder where is the girl or kid who voiced Bomberman now.....What's he or she doing?
6:07 The end. 6:17 NOT.
You wanna fight me?
getting to this boss was a bitch
Man Sirius had me played when I beat this...He was all good guy just to stab bomberman in the back thumbs up if ya agree
MrZer0gravity 7 years late man but I agree
Of course setting the bombs to low power prevents Altair from getting hit allowing you time to make and throw a pumbed up bomb. Thank you. I could only do it through sheer luck...again.
5:18 Derp moment!
@derkevevin I think he was just doing it for the gold cards

-hey!,in my Bomberman I completed it but the pathern when all know who is song do that, it is good, but I song know why
@hyperzyph64
ah and to fight with sirius x/ i err forgot? dunno
I was going to suggest throwing Altair off, but I saw youre trying to get all Gold Cards and doing that tactic kinda ruins it.
I wish I could do that to Orion though...but he recovers too damn quick.
You better get not hit by that death ray ...
"Yo!"
Uh, why did you go into battle without any bomb powerups?
Sypaka I think he show you his "challenge" for himself.
For he was just laying low till he get his true power back >.
ah okay what he said was unrelated to rainbow palace itself, k :)
PRAY TIME IS OBER
Sirius you traitor!
Playtime is over!
