A Japanese walked into a Vietnamese Chinese hair salon in Singapore....(sounds like something a stand up comic will say). It's pretty hilarious to listen to the conversation but I give you props for your attempt. Good job dude!
Probably for your next hair cut, you could try the other local barbers in Sg ie Malay and Indian barbershops to get the whole experience and for content
Ghib-san, thank you for continuing to create fun and engaging content in these trying times. You have shown many interesting places that even locals haven't thought of exploring. With our borders closed, you have given Singapore's "domestic tourism" a real boost. May you find joy and good food on all your adventures! Deeply appreciate your efforts!
So cute. Chicken and duck talk. Yes, some Vietnamese chinese in Singapore can speak Chinese well. She made you look like a cute little Singapore boy...
LOL~ there are so many hilarious moments in this video. The sponge part really got me laughing out loud. Like why?? HAHAHA Thumbs up for trying your best to converse with the hairdresser in Chinese.
🤣🤣🤣Ghibli-san, your Chinese language surprised me!! You can understand a lot😱 and talk. 🙋♀️Out of my curiosity, how about making a video talking about differences between Japanese “Kanji” and Chinese “Kanji”. Quite curious that can Japanese understand some Chinese characters in Singapore.
Cos kanji are traditional chinese characters and the pronunciation of kanji and chinese is quite the same. For example- everything in chinese is 全部 (quan bu) in japanese it is zen bu if not mistaken. So many chinese is able to learn japanese quite good and some japanese is also able to learn chinese quite good also
I will try to translate a little for u people, singlish style 1:44: What hairstyle you want?/How you want me to cut your hair? 1:55: These 2 how you want me to cut? (She is talking about the side of the hair) 2:07: Number 1? Number 2? (Numbers in Singapore barber meant the shortness of the shave, 1 being the shortest) 2:53: Everyday also fast, (dont quite get what is fast) edit: Everyday also open (Thanks for the confirmation!) 3:05: Where you from?/You from where? 3:22: Currently it depends/Currently it's on and off (Talking about number of customers) 3:38: Me? I cut hair how long? I cut hair for 2 years. 3:50: This place? This place errr... 9 years. 3:58: I'm from Vietnam 4:45: Good food? Yes! Cheap! 5:12: You went to many places/Go a lot place ah 5:27: Food and rent very expensive! 5:54: How is it?/The hair ok?
oh my gosh, I can't stop laughing with your hair when you're back home..I guess the lady don't quite understand what you trying to tell her that u want a Singapore Style hair cut.. it looks like anyhow style..hahaha..
You couldn't stop laughing under your mask...so do I...Couldn't stop laughing from the very start when u step into that barber shop...🤣🤣🤣 She gave u a "Vietnamese style" instead of "Singapore style"!!! 😁😁😁😍🤩😍🤣🤣😂😂
Ppl shave the side of the head short cuz the weather is hot in Singapore so its more cooling & comfortable to keep it short, plus it's has nice clean look :)
It’s so cute That you tried your best to chat with her! And that she also tried to hold the conversation. It reminded me of when I tried to get a haircut when I first started living in Japan, all I could tell the stylist was “cutto shorto” lol
I bet she don't understand him at all ... Both have problem understanding each other .. Btw ghib obasan , There are no Singapore style haircut Next time can try cut in neighborhood Malay barber store.. they are better than those China , Vietnam hairdresser. They are more skillful and more experience Those below are what I cut style Armani Armani short Layer spike Botak Slope. Backcomb
LMAO surprisingly you DO look like a typical Singaporean guy!! Hahaha with that outfit you could come off as a "Darren Tan" or something. NAILED IT~ 100 ;)
Ghib:How is business? Hairdresser:Vietnam. Ghib: ....... :p hahahaha.... it’s really nice to try and have a conversation despite the language barrier. That sponge ......tot she was going to give u a wash down with that. Lol. XDD
i notice hairdressers at cheap salons tend to style your hair to their own liking, especially when you didnt give them specific instructions. i once went to snip avenue and did not give specific instructions except to cut it short, the hairdresser changed my parting lmao.
Yeah as any guy will know from the first time they dare to say "just cut short" lol. It is not so much about the price actually. It really depends on the skill and experience of the barbar. Going to a Malay barber and saying that typically gives you a professional gentlemen's cut if you look like a working adult, and maybe a bit of undercut and longer fringes if you look younger and has the looks to carry it off. I trust them far more than any other establishment regardless of price.
Dear Mr Ghib Ojisan for hair cut, those below 10SGD are budget meaning. Those are least experience hairdresser/barber and they usually cut the "standard army hairstyle cut". Above 10SGD onwards you will have good hairdresser that can cut whatever you want. I would suggest go to your neighborhood hairdresser for a hair cut. (I personally dont chip out on haircut price, because is really the amount of money spend = the amount of skill). For "singapore style" is usually under cut, fade and "Beckham hairstyle". Anything more than 20SGD is designer hair cut which is good but just extremely pricey
Yes many Singaporean guys have short hair on the sides and back for easy styling. Usually they will use number 1/2 on the side. Not so sure about the weird part...
You can try an Indian barber that gives the full “classic” experience which includes a full shave, Sadly “neck cracking” massage is no longer being done though due to the potential for injury - really miss getting that at the end of every haircut.
There is only one recognised Singapore-style haircut if you want: the four-by-two haircut given to you by barbers before you begin your national service
HAHA Its funny listening to them converse. At the beginning she asked what style of haircut you want, and she repeated it again. When you mention "sapa.. " , she said " Oh (you) went many places" (qu hen duo di fang). Btw, nice haircut !
Your hair is a high slope, its pretty trendy in singapore! But I feel the sides are kinda too short😅😅 Please share how you learn Chinese!! It's really really good!!
Singapore style is "No.1". Its the standard haircut when SG men enlist into National Service. Anyway, you should've have gone to a Malay barber if you want to get a "Singapore Style" Next time can try "Armani" haircut or "High slope"
If you want Singapore style. Look for neighbourhood barber shop manned by old men,or go to Malay barber shop or Indian barber shop (these are Singaporeans barber), You do not need to tell them Singapore style, just say "Cut short, behind slope and sideburn natural) and they will know what to do after that. Usually take more than 5 minutes and these shops are very meticulous. Their price in the range of SGD8 to SGD12 too. They used scissors, razars and electric clippers and shaved your facial fine hair after applying some light cream. Very soothing and relaxing. Something seems funny at your hair 8:50, I don't think the lady executed it meticulously, now it look more like traditional Japanese hairstyle instead of Singaporean hairstyle to me.
Your neighbourhood should hv malay barber shop and u can find many locals there to understand more about Singapore. Btw Singapore style for men comes with shaving with razor blade..
You should go to HDB neighbour hood barber shop. She didn’t understand what you mean Singapore style. She just cut short. Thinks guys usually visit Malay barber to get Singapore style
If you want singapore style, you should try the neighbourhood malay barbers, comes with razor shave at the end
I highly recommend the one at Blk 638 Bukit Batok Central Malay Barber with two chairs inside.
Yes it's called ole barber!!
Well, hello there............................
I agree. Or those old uncle shop near tampines block 201.they help save your facial hair with a blade at the end
Ahhh.. yes yes!
A Japanese walked into a Vietnamese Chinese hair salon in Singapore....(sounds like something a stand up comic will say).
It's pretty hilarious to listen to the conversation but I give you props for your attempt. Good job dude!
Lol
it's really most awkward as u mentioned lol but I love how you try to talk with her
Its kind of weird. A Japanese walked into a hair salon in Singapore, hair stylist is Vietnamese, and you two are conversing in mandarin... 😅

Wow, really admire how much effort you made to strike up a conversation despite the language barrier!
I think you should have gone to a Malay barber for a better convo and haircut at the same price hahaha
Try the 10minutes Japanese salons instead (QB House), and give us a comparison between those in SG and Japan.
After the haircut, Ghib Ojisan look like Singapore ah boi.
more like ah beng
Look like a vietnamese
he is way to handsome to be Singapore ah boi..
Probably for your next hair cut, you could try the other local barbers in Sg ie Malay and Indian barbershops to get the whole experience and for content
Once cb over try the SINGAPORE IPPT TEST
Ghib-san, thank you for continuing to create fun and engaging content in these trying times. You have shown many interesting places that even locals haven't thought of exploring. This is hilarious and please ask for "Singapore style" cut only from now on... haha, be quite funny to see what you get each time.
Came here to say this! Ghib Ojisan's Chinese is surprisingly good :D
Cos kanji are traditional chinese characters and the pronunciation of kanji and chinese is quite the same. For example- everything in chinese is 全部 (quan bu) in japanese it is zen bu if not mistaken. So many chinese is able to learn japanese quite good and some japanese is also able to learn chinese quite good also
Should go to barbers run by Malay gentlemen, they do good cuts, my dad swear by it. Next time, ask for a gentleman's cut.
Wow! Im surprised! Ghib can understand and speak in Mandarin! WOW!
I will try to translate a little for u people, singlish style

I wander around quite a bit when overseas. You can actually communicate surprisingly well if you put your heart into it like Ghib did.
I almost choked on my water when you looked at the flap in the hair and said “is this singaporean style” 🤣🤣

Bro, do try a Malay or Indian barber next time. Very interesting conversations plus a cheap, good haircut.

I always look forward to your videos, everyday!!
The convo is quite funny. But what a brave attempt 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes many Singaporean guys have short hair on the sides and back for easy styling. Usually they will use number 1/2 on the side. Not so sure about the weird part...
you should go malay barber..this is a Vietnamese girl in Chinatown, sure many chinese Ah-peks go
When I heard the lady voice and saw her outfit I thought you went to the wrong salon.
I’d recommend trying one of the more premium barber experience like Good Guys Barbershop. Its $38 per cut but you get a full barber experience!
You made me laugh so hard 😂😂you are funny 😂 面白い よくやった がんばり続ける maybe next time, prepare some translation notes.. it helps 👌🏻👍🏻😉 Oh yah.. the sponge 🧽 😆
that sponge must ask her swipe in a circular motion then only you’ll look shinier cause i got tried on my dishes before
U look so much younger wif this haircut 👍
Nice new haircut! 👍🏻
This made me feel like cutting my hair soon too!!!! Been 3months, always feels great when I cut ur hair
Ur hair at the final review section of the video is pretty hilarious haha ... Split at the side
You can try an Indian barber that gives the full “classic” experience which includes a full shave, Sadly “neck cracking” massage is no longer being done though due to the potential for injury - really miss getting that at the end of every haircut.

Btw, nice haircut !
You look fresh and younger in the haircut. But very good effort to hold a conversation despite the language barrier.
At 3:30 she was saying she can’t determine the number of daily customers , but roughly it’s around 30
Your hair is a high slope, its pretty trendy in singapore! But I feel the sides are kinda too short😅😅
