Having read all of the comments below, I think some clarification from me, as the interviewer Roger Steffens, is appropriate.
First off, regarding our friendship: I first met Peter at the Burbank Starlight Amphitheater in July of 1978, when he surprised Bob Marley during the BMW show's encore, at the exact moment where he comes in on the recording of "Get Up Stand Up," (the verse he wrote). The following year, in September, I was asked to secure some herb for him and brought it to his hotel. From there on we communicated frequently, sometimes from the far corners of the earth, with him usually asking for tapes of his earliest records - all of his collection had been borrowed and never returned - or stolen. He autographed dozens of his records for me, and knew that I had an appreciative and ever-growing knowledge of his work and career.
One thing that bothered me was the American Black's rejection of Peter's "Back to Africa" campaign. Often, Black reporters labeled Tosh "crazy," a "nutcase" and "out of his mind." I wanted to help protect my friend Peter from these cheap remarks, and not give them ammunition to counter his mis-statements. It begs the question of whether I was trying to save Peter from himself. Regardless, I had brought some recent purchases to the 1983 interview - and did not, as someone alleges below, bring them to confront him. Luckily, they fit into the part of the conversation where he was, as was his custom, insisting that the Wailers, "were never Bob Marley and the Wailers until Chris Whiteworst called us that."
I have an early copy of the Wailers' first record for Coxson Dodd in 1964, "Simmer Down," with the credit "Bob and the Wailers."
Two years later, when Bob returned from Delaware with enough money to start the Wailers' own label, Wail 'n Soul'm, they called themselves "Bob Marley and the Wailing Wailers," and continued that appellation through their Lee Perry and other producers' eras up until 1972. It was Blackwell who wanted to promote them like a rock band (think "Traffic" or "Cream"), and called them simply, The Wailers.
This information was public in many forums, and I wanted Tosh to avoid saying something that was demonstrably false, then and in the future. Don't give the haters any ammunition.
Incidentally, I am not now, nor ever (Jah forbid!) have been, a member of the FBI, the CIA, or any organized (agonized?) body of oppressors. I've been an anti-war activist since my return from the Army, into which I was drafted, in 1970, having served 26 months in Vietnam. I never fired a shot, but rather began a refugee campaign that raised over a hundred tons of food and clothing for refugees. For this work I received a Bronze Star.
Fuck Trump! - Roger Steffens/Ras RoJah

Thank you, Mr. Steffens. Your explanation and this timeless interview are greatly appreciated. Aside from what has been an obvious campaign by the powers that be of the mainstream, cointelpro & collaborating factions of social engineering in general to both suppress Peter, his message and also his son; I can overstand why so called “Black” Americans would be apprehensive to anyone’s message of “Returning to Africa”. The reason is that (contrary to popular belief & the works of eugenicist, we are NOT African nor are we as a whole from Africa. The particular population referenced (so called “Black” Americans also misnomered “African Americans”) are the remnant of the unmixed indigenous people of the American continent (North, Central, South and the surrounding islands including the Caribbean and Jamaica). Many of the outter islands were indoctrinated into beliefs of being from a land they have not a single family member to trace to. Same happened in the states but many are still very much aware of their actual heritage & genealogy tracing back to the Americas. None of this cancels out the huge impact Tosh had on most of us fortunate enough to be familiar with his work. Much love!

It is really strange how Peter Tosh talked about the elements and the circumstances which would have ultimately lead up to his own death, i.e. "the forces of evil" … (sic) …. People's perceptions of him being rich … "I have money" … [and] his ultimate demise … [these are) … "the way(s) of assassination …" Oh, how prophetic was this interview ....

You know how fucking long Rasta man ah try tell unnuh ??!! (sorry to swear but it is just sooo frustrating)
These men raised themselves up from a places so poverty stricken that you simply cannot imagine if you have not seen it with your own eyes and felt the hunger in your own stomach!
And they came with nothing but a very simple message no matter what artist you like more than the next ? The message was the same!!
Peace love and unity amongst all flesh on earth !!
As simple as the message sounds it is the most potent message you ever need to hear because if we abided it, the world wouldn’t be so absolutely different
The black masses chased away the Rasta in favour of exalting and financing the Christian preacher and his materialistic value system now he and his wife speed past in a Mercedes Benz whilst the congregation stand at the bus stop!

Bob and Peter were simply musicians despite the persona they display and Bob was a superior artist than Peter ever was and that's why you hear more about Bob than Peter. None of them were prophets or freedom fighters. End if story.

Notnotthatguy810 he is interrogating. watch how he cues the cameras before diving deep, pretending to be off camera yet recording or zeroing in for a prophecy. No, Peter was too woke.

he is, he spoke badly of peter when doing a Bob marley interview saying peter was bitter when Bob Paid for peters fist album after leaving CBS most tuff gong Artist played with peter, bunny sang back up peter was not bitter of bobs success he knew the record label was slaving them so it was hard for him to get his records properly circulated when he called the label the shitstem same thing happened to prince

Roger Stephens has been writing about reggae since the early 70's. He was one of the earliest promoters of reggae in the US. Leppo and the rest of them fithy gunman killed Peter. Not everything a conspiracy.

37:17 - I love how Peter dances around the actual meaning. Bumbaclaat is literally bum cloth. Raasclaat = arse cloth. It's basically calling someone an arsewipe! Bloodclaat the same - blood cloth, i.e. you are calling the person a tampon - that's one Jamaican slang that has never caught on in the wider English language!
