Leslie Nielsen was an absolute genius at playing wacky shit completely straight.
May he rest in peace.
He was a renowned dramatic actor back before the world was in color. He basically just did the same thing with wacky lines, and i agree, did It absolutely perfectly. His dead pan is the solid gold standard by which all other dead pan is measured against and found wanting.
Check out videos of him doing the press tours for lethal weapon 2, particularly the Dave Letterman appearance. He has a wonderfully comedic little device he plays with 🤣🤣🤣

They're not shooting to kill, they're laying down suppressive fire. When they're allowed to actually fight, they prove super effective.

Drebin’s police car going through the Death Star trench run was actually in the opening credits to the third Naked Gun movie!
I love the small touch that when the guy was washing the car, he was driving backwards.
Only a Neilsen deals in absolute humour.

This is the original script, unfortunately Leslie Nelson and George Lucas had a falling out mid shoot and so they had to find another actor in its place. Lucas swore that he'd never release footage of Nelson in star wars but that all went away once Disney bought the property in 2012.

Famous Sci Fi movie actor Leslie Nielsen fits so perfectly because he...wasn't just some comedian but also played serious roles, like Commander J. J. Adams in the 1956 movie Forbidden Planet.
And he still had the serious undertone when playing comedy. Which makes it even funnier.

The last part with Han Solo was so funny I nearly fell off my chair. And how Drebbin took down Darth Maul. Poor guy never stood a chance.
Drebin driving backwards through hyperspace is just so right. And Darth Maul's reaction to being cut in half is so Police Squad.
Yeah, the faint scene in The Naked Gun have pretty much exactly the same reaction except the line: “Frank. Why?”

George Lucas had a general outline and a list of recommendations for the sequels, which Kathleen Kennedy & her team then tossed in the trash. While Lucas is the farthest thing from perfect, as the prequels showed, I still consider his overriding vision to have been the "true canon" that was lost due to the machinations of -the Sith- Disney. The fact that Disney Lucasfilm later admitted they had no overall plan & just wrote what "felt" right at the time only rubs salt in the wound.
It's no naked gun (what can be?), but I was reading a book that pokes fun of star trek, star wars, and law and order. It kind of has the same style humour. Psyber War [sic] if I recall. Complete with a space trump president 😂

He was my personal favorite, even if he may not have intended to be a comedy star at all. In the end, he made me and many others laugh and forget about the harder things in life. There is pride in that and I will always appreciate him for it. And I will always appreciate how you honor his memory with these well-made pieces of cross-over comedic gold.
