FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer (MLS) have Jamaican club Cavalier on the ropes in their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series following a 2-0 first leg victory on Thursday night at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
The action started early and often, highlighted by each team having a great chance to score within 30 seconds of each other.
First, it was Sergio Santos of FC Cincinnati heading right at Cavalier GK Jeadine White, followed moments later by an Orlando Russell effort at goal for Cavalier saved by FC Cincinnati GK Roman Celetano.
Santos would later come achingly close to scoring with a shot off the crossbar in the 34', but right before halftime he would break through for the game's first goal when Bret Halsey found Santos, who stabbed home a shot for 1-0 FC Cincinnati lead.
Cavalier looked to respond in the second half and started testing the FC Cincinnati defense, including a chance in the 64' with 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup top scorer Shaniel Thomas in the area and set to fire off a shot, only for FC Cincinnati's Yuya Kubo to swoop in and make a last-ditch slide tackle to clear the danger
FC Cincinnati were keen to find a second to put Cavalier on the ropes, and nearly did so in the 82' when Pavel Bucha hit a volley off a corner kick that grazed the crossbar.
The coveted second goal would ultimately arrive for FC Cincinnati in the 87' helped by a slick backheel from Arquimides Ordonez and a powerful, well-placed right-footed finish from Malik Pinto to complete the 2-0 scoreline.

Bredda Jamaicans don’t support local club football like that they mostly come out to support the national team . Only clubs like tivoli gardens Waterhouse and Mobay united will get any kind of support it also didn’t help that the game was played on a Thursday night

The commentator said travelling supporters, doesn't he see that these are Jamaicans cheering on FC Cincinatti. On another note, Cavalier's slow ball movement won't work against a MLS team. Time Rudolph Speid sees that.
This problem follows every Jamaican team as the pace of local football is very slow and when they come up against international club sides even those from Trinidad and the Hispanic countries they are always found wanting . A methodology needs to be found to raise the pace. Level and quality of the passing. The fact that cincanatiti goals were expertly crafted also shows a lack of nous. Craftiness and football iq missing in the Jamaican game these days. the mid 2000s had far better players which also means the current crop of players are a far cry from what was there before

In the US, they send the Open Cup champions, the supporter’s shield winners, or runners up if they also win the MLS cup playoffs. There’s also the conference champions based off points (runner up if the supporter’s shield is from their conference) plus there’s the new League’s Cup between MLS and LigaMX
Leagues Cup is not new, it has just been expanded. The competition was played for the first time back in 2019

It's shocking that a team who are perennial champions or challengers for the the JPL title cannot attract a crowd of 100 in their own national stadium. Is this indicative of jamaican football fans or Cavalier are a club with no defined support from a particular area of Kingston?

@leroysmart9363 they produce and send players overseas so the talented players will always want to stay there because they will get a better opportunity of going abroad but in terms of fans compare to other clubs cavalier isn't well supported
