This was completely entertaining! Hilarious. Why engineer it when you can overengineer it? Fantastic. Thank you Dave for confirming to all of us that Fluke meters are bomb-proof! I was worried that I might have issues using the meter while mountainbiking. Now I can rest assured. Great video, Dave! :)
Is this the video that earned him the title of the Crazy Aussie Bloke? Just bring a high end multi meter with him while repelling down a waterfall. You can't make that up. I would love to know exactly how thrilled Fluke was to see it go through all that relatively unscathed.
that's a tough meter for sure, no doubt. so i just bought a used one from ebay, funny thing is, it got some scratches almost identical as yours... oh wait...
@Intosia They do. Casio GzOne Commando C771. Although sand and water won't get in, not enough light gets out in the desert. You can't see the screen in bright sunlight. I did use it to take pictures and make phone calls from a dam, but didn't drop it over the dam.
Funny that you say the only problem is the inductor... you dropped it from 4 times what it's rated before it sheared! Then 10 times! A sheared inductor sounds like cake! This is my next meter, won't have to worry about the kids getting to it. Note if we can get Dell, Samsung, Apple, etc to take a page out of this book... imagine a Galaxy S3 at 30 meters!
Meanwhile, in the same universe, I destroyed the back of my Samsung phone with a 50cm drop when it slipped from the dashboard and landed on soft leather...
Fluke does have a strong believe in their product, when they give you a product to kill it. I mean: It was obvious that you will crack it open and look at the insides for the least (some companies wouldn't like that to begin with). That you will put the specs into test... not that obvious but: You totally mistreated it and only two parts failed: Nice for a multimeter that sits most days on a boring lab table :-)
Drive over it with a steamroller. If that doesn't crack the case nothing will. But because steamrollers are not easy to find, try rolling over it with your car!
No actually even that tunnel looks like M5, if you notice the street layout when he exits the tunnel mate. i don't think it is it's likely based on the last 900 videos and drive by rants we've seen dave lives around North West sydney, around Windsor Road Area so.. that BUS IS ROUTE 143 which Manly to Chatswood via st leonards, again, makes sense that he would northish so around Epping Rd or Maybe close to boundary road but not north of boundary road so.. if your in that area and you want to go to the mountains you take either Pennant Hills road then Cumberland Hwy then right on Great Western Highway or if you don't care about toll charges then from north, you'd go M2 which is where i think he was M2 become M7 and then from there the only logical path is M7, then Turn right into M4 and head to the mountains i reckon you saw him in the M2, if it was the M5, go to 0:43 Notice how when he comes out THERE IS NO AIRPORT ON THE RIGHT SIDE, instead..... WHERE'S WALDO or whatever it's called let's do WHERE DAVE :P oh hang on, there's a street sign, i know that so.. dave must be...... hehe Daves gonna get an AVO out on us.... Just wait and see
I think Fluke uses "special" plastic that will never crack. other companies just use cheap plastic and as soon as you drop them...they crack like an egg. Hats off to Fluke for giving us Quality multimeters.
Dropping things on the floor wearing only flipflops? Health and safety does not approve! Also, a meter like that surely deserves a waterproof manual to go with it. How do Fluke expect you to measure at the bottom of a canyon if you can't look up a setting you've forgotten?
He replaced the lcd, proclaims he's going to "ramp it up" while the lcd is broken again. At the dam, the lcd is already broken before he drops it. Got to get your editing in a line.
i would not recommend jumping into the water with a helmet on it can snap your neck. it acts like a parachute when u submerge in water and a sudden stop can kill u. allot of soldiers died that way in ww2.
Multimeters don't go to hell, they go to Dave.
Hehehehe that's right.
This should be a commercial for Fluke's durability!
Next Dave takes his Rigol DS1054z canyoning, stay tuned!!!
I wonder if Fluke has a person dedicated to 'testing' their equipment like this. Must be a fun job.
You should do a troubleshooting and repair video on this meter, it deserves it =-)
Probably one of my top 10 favorite episodes yet! Fantastic video Dave!
Even Nokia would be impressed...
Conan117117 maybee the nokia design team joined fluke to make it
Wow, I was expecting a bucket... but a canyon?! A car drop?!!
That's how a review must be done. 5 Stars!

@dk038967 Not with canyoning helmets, they are ultra light weight and designed for that, see the holes in the sides?
that's a tough meter for sure, no doubt. so i just bought a used one from ebay, funny thing is, it got some scratches almost identical as yours... oh wait...
Err, I have thrown myself off that dam actually, I survived!
No replies 😢
@cyklopek11 What makes you think that? No, I am not sponsored by Fluke, they just gave me the product to review any way I wanted.
Can you do another video in which you simply donate a brand new 28-II to me? :-P
LOL. You, sir, are a nut! :D Thanks!
Just got my Fluke 88V, Im glad I found your channel. Subbed.👍
@Intosia They do. Casio GzOne Commando C771. Although sand and water won't get in, not enough light gets out in the desert. You can't see the screen in bright sunlight. I did use it to take pictures and make phone calls from a dam, but didn't drop it over the dam.
...Half a pack of lollies...
That is Dave for you!
its hurting me just watching you do that to that Fluke.
This should be a fluke ad! A test mythbusters would be proud of
Fluke thinks this is AWESOME. Well done, Dave!
Now this is a product review
Funny that you say the only problem is the inductor... you dropped it from 4 times what it's rated before it sheared! Then 10 times! A sheared inductor sounds like cake! That's what I would call a Solid State device !
Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville and this is Stunt Multimeter!
I laughed so many times during this video, especially after it was thrown out the car window. Awesome!!
Do us all a favor and check the amperage on the power lines with that thing :P
hahahahaha you are crazy Dave! I like your reviews very much. I am a Fluke lover too.
Fluke's quality and reliability is unmatched.
Dave, C- on your repelling. You didn't go down Australian Style! Face first next time! LMAO!!!
They do. In fact they have a whole lab full of multimeter torture equipment. Nice folks too (unless you're a multimeter).
Hello. Dave, what are these circuits on ceramic boards inside, near blue protection components?
Wow... was waiting for it to fly into pieces. Impressed.
If you look at one frame at 11:58, it says F28 in the mV mode. Fault code?
Wow. That meter is indestructible. Have you soldered a new inductor and changed out the LCD after the 30m drop? That's awesome.
Why fluke 28ii always saying batt when you used the continuity with a backlight even replaced a new battery? There's something wrong about that item?
Wowsers! Are you going to replace the LCD and inductor again to see if she runs?
Excellent!
Meanwhile, in the same universe, I destroyed the back of my Samsung phone with a 50cm drop when it slipped from the dashboard and landed on soft leather...
How much is the fee that a fluke paid for all this?
Excelente amigo gracias por kompartir video una pregunta me servirá el Fluke 28 ii p tarjetas electrónicas d ECUS automotrices
Thanks for this. I always wanted to probe underwater.
Please tell us you got that meter back in working order!
Was this a snake at the left down corner at 3:15?
3:15 is this snake at the left?
Why does the lcd break again before the meter is even dropped again?
that's why it cost you $600....
@EEVblog which canyon was this one?
I was deciding between the 87V Max and the Hioki DT4281. My prolonged and agonizing deliberations are ended! Its going to be an 87 for me!
it hurts to see that ...
jep realy bad
Now that you know how strong those industrial plastics are, do you still feel bad about plastic screw inserts?
nope !
Amazing. You should of done a breakdown voltage test, i'm curious.. that's more of a functional test , but it seems like a damn reliable meter anyway.
Fluke does have a strong believe in their product, when they give you a product to kill it. That you will put the specs into test... not that obvious but: You totally mistreated it and only two parts failed: Nice for a multimeter that sits most days on a boring lab table :-)
Hahahahaha (walking through rapids) "awesome specs, really." Dave Jones is a funny guy.
Drive over it with a steamroller. If that doesn't crack the case nothing will. But because steamrollers are not easy to find, try rolling over it with your car!
So mo ftw, great video!
Great Multimeter!, Very bouncy!
Why did You do that? :(
14:52 "How the hell do I kill this, what I do?" Just apply 12V to the battery input.
Yeah, you will need to test many electronics parts while canyoning :D
These are the precision resistor networks, you find in verry good multimeters (like this fluke :P)
take the m5 did you? I'm in the hurstville region
No actually even that tunnel looks like M5, if you notice the street layout when he exits the tunnel mate.
i don't think it is
it's likely based on the last 900 videos and drive by rants we've seen
dave lives around North West sydney, around Windsor Road Area
so.. that BUS IS ROUTE 143
which Manly to Chatswood via st leonards,
again, makes sense that he would northish
so around Epping Rd or Maybe close to boundary road but not north of boundary road
so.. if your in that area and you want to go to the mountains
you take either Pennant Hills road then Cumberland Hwy then right on Great Western Highway
or if you don't care about toll charges
then
from north, you'd go
M2 which is where i think he was
M2 become M7
and then from there the only logical path is
M7, then Turn right into M4 and head to the mountains
i reckon you saw him in the M2,
if it was the M5,
go to 0:43
Notice how when he comes out
THERE IS NO AIRPORT ON THE RIGHT SIDE, instead..... TREES
when you head away from the city on the M5
Airport is on your right side, you go under the runway
then you go through the tunnel
when you exit the tunnel, First exit on the right is ROCKDALE exit that goes to san souci
then about a few km's later on your left is King Georges road as you know
this was not the rockdale exit
it's likely he's on the M2
Cross city tunnel has a similar tunnel, but the direction doesn't make sense
because if dave went from chatswood or there abouts via CCT then M5
he'd still have to go right onto M7 and left onto M4
doesn't make sense
it's likely
M2 to M7 to M4 to Mountains
what are we doing anyway
are we trying to stalk dave here or what hehe
you know how you have that game. WHERE'S WALDO or whatever it's called
let's do
WHERE DAVE :P
oh hang on, there's a street sign, i know that
so.. dave must be......
hehe
Daves gonna get an AVO out on us.... Just wait and see
@Gameboygenius probably means Fluke 28, because the Fluke 117 says F117.
Why do you guys drive on the wrong side of the road?
they are in australiE
Are all australians this filled with energy?
djentlover nope
4:42 That defiantly is an overload!
I think Fluke uses "special" plastic that will never crack. other companies just use cheap plastic and as soon as you drop them...they crack like an egg. Hats off to Fluke for giving us Quality multimeters.
So from here comes the crazy aussie nick
really nice test, the meter is unbreakable
lol and @ 4:42 I thought it said "LOL".. I've been on the internet too long today I guess. Crazy though, I can't believe it survived off the dam.
Nokia has a new rival in the indestructible category :D
Coming soon: The 'Dave' action-figure! While supplies last! :)
That inductor is potted in 28 II Ex version, would stay in place...
@EEVblog fluke did a great job of making a multimeter which is Dave proof
Dropping things on the floor wearing only flipflops? Health and safety does not approve!
Also, a meter like that surely deserves a waterproof manual to go with it. How do Fluke expect you to measure at the bottom of a canyon if you can't look up a setting you've forgotten?
Dave, you're a dag, albeit a funny, entertaining and adventurous one!
Thumbs up & thumps down to you.
AWESOME
This was just a fluke.
Dave you just proof that the plastic is good, not the dam fluke
My multimeter is a fluke115 and is very very strong :)
He replaced the lcd, proclaims he's going to "ramp it up" while the lcd is broken again. At the dam, the lcd is already broken before he drops it. Got to get your editing in a line.
+hansonsux pro bably put the old one back in so he doesnt waste an lcd
Well.... That is a strong Multimeter 0_0
Mine will probably die from a glass of water
Fluke... my eyes are crying...
sledeći put provjeri koliko ti je očna jabučica otporna na kiseline. zaključak bi bio jednako poučan,ako ne i više.
2:40 I was expecting a Pee Wee laugh at this point.
i would not recommend jumping into the water with a helmet on it can snap your neck. it acts like a parachute when u submerge in water and a sudden stop can kill u. allot of soldiers died that way in ww2.
BEST multimeter tests ever hahahahahaha.. =]
Fluke rubber ducky.
thumps up for fluke
If this was the 28 II Ex, the inductor most probably would have been fine as it's encapsulated in "goo". :)
man god of the meter !!!
Do it with the Vichy, haha! That would probably disintegrate.
Weird seeing the M5 on youtube o_O
that was so cool
Dave, please don't do it again, I cried((
Dave sells Bryman meters now....I wonder if..They...could survive these torture tests! Probably NOT!
wow awesome, now lets do the agilent multimeter
beautiful location
awesome! I couldn't help but cringe at the 100m drops.
Now if only I had a phone that could survive a 2 foot drop...
macrymble try bv6000
how to destroy your multimeter
1. go to the cn tower in toronto
2.drop the multimeter from top
