some of the acting in this fan film (mainly by Lily’s actress) was questionable but the casting was SPOT on, and you can tell whoever wrote it has done their homework on the lore of The Marauders era and the characters. the special effects are amazing too to not be professionally done! and Patrick you’re right, another nitpick of mine too is that while the Voldemort makeup was good, Voldemort didn’t actually have that snakelike appearance until after he was brought back in Goblet of Fire. in the first Wizarding War, he still looked like Tom Riddle (mostly human) but with red eyes - if i remember right.
also, while James did stop bullying random students before he left Hogwarts and mostly cleaned up his act, he did continue to pick on Severus behind Lily’s back. so him picking a fight with Severus was probably pretty accurate, though maybe not to this extent to where they were all-out dueling. but he did continue to pick on him.
Thanks for the info on James and Voldy. I actually enjoyed this more the 2nd time through during edit.
Just adding to what Cait said about Voldy (quoted from Half-Blood Prince) "Voldemort had entered the room. His features were not those Harry had seen emerge from the great stone cauldron almost two years before; they were not as snake-like, the eyes were not yet scarlet, the face not yet mask-like, and yet he was no longer handsome Tom Riddle. It was as though his features had been burned and blurred; they were waxy and oddly distorted, and the whites of the eyes now had a permanently bloody look, though the pupils were not yet the slits that Harry knew they would become. He was wearing a long black cloak and his face was as pale as the snow glistening on his shoulders."
@@christianburk9898 Dang, hit me with the hard stuff. I completely forgot about that old moldy voldy
@@PatrickStewart316 Moldy Voldy 🤣
Definitely a better nickname than what I used. I go with Tommy Boy because...Chris Farley was awesome. But I think I'm gonna need to steal "Moldy Voldy" 😁
To say James picked on debris is inaccurate, as they were both going at each other behind Lily's back. The story is very heavily pro Snape is my criticism
I love how they've made me feel bad for Snape. to empathize for him. they humanized him in a very real way. also, they made me question the true brevity of Gryffindor. and just think, it was all over a girl
this fan film is one of the best ones i've seen man.
agreed with all critiques and praises. the casting was extremely well done. impressed me with the special effects. I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it
I was a fan of the production, the effects, all of that, but I agree with you on the portrayal of James. Yes, there was still animosity between he and Snape, but if anyone was going to be starting a fight with Snape in a pub at that point in their lives, it would've been Sirius. People seem to forget that James is the reason Sirius' "prank" of telling Snape how to get past the Whomping Willow didn't end with Snape being dead. Also, that is the one time that James is known to have ever been outwardly furious with Sirius. Snape definitely wasn't an innocent person minding his own business every time there was a skirmish between the five of them. I also wasn't entirely pleased with how they portrayed Lupin. Yes, he most likely would've jumped in when he had to, but I feel like it would've been more to shield James and Sirius and to try and talk them down. I do agree though that Peter was absolutely perfectly cast and portrayed.
Snape was definetly minding his own business, it is canon that these children go After him.. so does this mean snape should sit still and do nothing about them ?? Just because the victim of bullying fights back doesn't mean he wasn't "a victim" !
One thing I think you guys might have missed is this is a story being narrated by Snape. If anything is going to be sympathetic to his side, it’s going to be a story told by him.
On a related note, I would love to see your reaction to 1977 Hogsmede and 1977 Quidditch from the Mischief Managers. Both stories take place during Marauders final year and feed into each other. Each video is about a half hour long which I understand if it is too long to fit into the recording schedule.
Will look into. Thanks for the good info
Snape is the best
I myself loved the complexity of James' character in this. Plus, everything else of course. Which BTW I think (in movie continuity) the Voldemort, and the Mauraders have figured out the secret to controlling Fiend Fyre: It has to be in the form of your Patronus.
Whaaaaaaa. Awesome tidbit about fiend fire. 🤯.
I never knew this existed. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall project. I'd give it a thumbs up. Great effects a compelling story for what we got even though it is a little off from what the books would have you believe. The call back to "Serverus please" right before the killing curse. The idea of Voldemort giving life advice in a bar is just plain funny. Overall I feel Snape and Wormtail were accurately portrayed.
Totally agree with you. Fun little watch.
Overall I agree with the criticisms about some of the inaccuracies but I appreciated the acting (mostly) and especially the production value. I've mentioned it before, but another one worth watching when you have the time is "Sisters of House Black." Thanks for reacting to this. 🙂💖
That’s one keeps popping up. We are probably going to have to check it out.
@@PatrickStewart316 Yay. That along with the Neville one would be cool to see.
That one's awesome, but my favorite one was the one about the Longbottoms
Oh I'm soooooo happy for this!!!
If you guys are all about accurate portrayals, warning before you watch the 3 Harry Potter musicals: they are parodies and bring out the ugly in some if the good characters. Keep that in mind. That said, the trilogy has some good stuff in them and I hope you watch them and like them.
The Sisters of House Black was a great fanfic.
Thought that was a cool Fan-film. Would love the marauders as a series during their 4th year at Hogwarts. I think Sirius could be the lead role of the story, James would be a bit of a bully but throughout it lily would help and talk some sense into him. Snape could be this side character who has short story, he would be that kid no one liked except lily and we would see why he loved her so much. Something cool to think about.
Absolutely 💯
Lol, snape could Never be a side character, he IS too interesting,
I like the version of Dumbledore fighting grindelwald when ariana gets killed
i think that James potter was the Draco Malfoy of Gryffindor. at least while he was a bully in Hogwarts. however everyone keeps telling me that by the time James graduated he was a better person. James was a bit of a bully and stole Snape girl. but i think this is accurate in terms of how Snape would remember it. this short film is probably what it feels like to Snape's point of view per say. and he's not entirely wrong, James made his share of mistakes but its important to remember he did care about his friends, he did stand up to evil, and he did get the girl in the end. I'm not ever gonna read the books cause one harry potter tried to "force me to" it didn't work and it kind of ruined it for me. I don't mind watching people talk about it on RUclips. its nice to get perspective.
I appreciate the awesome insight. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. 👍
Y'all watched one of my favorite fanfilms not sure if you've watched anymore but if not here are some others
1. Voldemort Origins of the Heir
2. Sisters of House Black
Whilst I agree it comes across as biased against what we know of the characters from the books I can receive it as a tale told at the bar to the listening stranger by Severus. Therefore it would make sense that the whole encounter would be Snape's point of view, his lense on the whole interaction, so it would be biased. If it was told by a third-party narrator it would have been more evenly balanced. Great choreography sold the rest. Thumbs up.
Never thought of it that way. Makes much more sense.
Ok and lets think of how Snape was bullied in today's terms. James and all his buddies would be charged with assault and sexual assault.... and we can stop at that. For that alone or you will be expelled and probably go to jail or at best register as a sexual predator for the rest of your life. You can not render another human helpless but still conscious. Then strip there clothes off publicly and threatening to expose them fully.... If 4 men did that to a women everyone would freak out.
You guys need to see Marotos: Uma história, it's a brazilian webseries fan made and tells the story of them in the last year in Hogwarts, it's amazing has already won some awards and all
Lily had a big issue with Snape doing Dark Arts and the Death Eater thing. So it was not cold when she said that and I would have had a big problem with it to . Like she said, I have chosen my path , you have chosen yours. (ps, I DO not like James even if I am a Gryffindor)
The more I rewatch and re read, the more I like Luna
GUYS you should definitely to react to A Very Potter Musical. its hilarious and so entertaining.
Loved the reaction ❤️
You guys should react to the fan film Sisters of House Black. It follows Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromeda Black. Its really good!
Agreed. I loved that one.
Yes. Seems to be a common consensus. I need to get us on that one.
See the one about the Black sisters. It's done well.
I basically had the same reaction as you guys did when I first saw this. I think they production is really good and appreciate all the time and effort that went into it. But it is another way that the marauders were portrayed to be nothing but cruel bullies. They for sure had their moments, but it isn't like Snape was always completely innocent either. And like you said at this point James had matured, and even before that I don't believe he was so aggressive. Another interesting fan film is Neville Longbottom and the Black Witch. It's not very long but talks more about Frank and Alice.
Is the Neville film also by the same people? I would be interested in seeing that as well
There's the one about Voldy getting his diary and this Hufflepuff chick.
And there's a song And then I died by the Moaning Myrtles.
11:55 If this is how they handled their stuff, they had no honor. Lol! Two against one is a low blow.
Edit. to add: oh, four against one. Yuck.
snape had massive amounts of plot armor and director bias in this film. Early in the fight, you could see when sirius joins in to help james, both were flanking both of snape's end and boxing him in, which is a good strategy because snape could not devote his attention to either one of them. Even if snape was the better duelist than the three of them combined, he didn't have the tactical advantage, the marauders did. When remus and peter joined in, all four suddenly decide to attack snape at the front, which makes no sense tactically and they gave up their advantage as a team.
The fiendfyre effects were good at first but then when it hits the ground, it looked so small and disappointing.
That's just my gripe though.
Astute observation my friend. Great call out.
Great reaction , I waiting for Hp DH II 🖤
the footage was lost, they discussed it in the last livestream
@@im_azraelle Ohhh man that sucks D: I was waiting too.
Thanks for looking out Cait. Yes Carlos. We are working on a rewatch party and discussion but the theater footage was lost after first 5 mins.

how did I not know y'all watched this???
I don’t know if this has been suggested and sorry if it’s been repeated, but would you consider watching dh2 again but instead of faking a reaction, just say this is how I felt when I first saw it, this is what i think now? Etc.
Yes, we will be doing a rewatch right now it’s just a matter of finding the time. Between the holidays and me just working two weeks straight we have to work it out
Some thoughts:
- I really like how James Potter is basically the epitome of the 80's preppy douchebag bully. Sadly not really lore accurate since he kind of outgrew that behavior by this point in his life. But a good portrayal of the archetype nonetheless.
- For a fan film the CGI is pretty darn good. Nothing but praise from me there. Especially considering the budget they probably had to work with.
- I thought the Snape actor was the same one from the Cowboy Bebop fan film. I was wrong. Also, avoid the Netflix adaptation at all costs. For the love of God. Please avoid it.
- The actors playing Pettigrew and Lupin were the highlight for me. Pettigrew for basically being perfectly cast and Remus for giving the most subtle/believable performance.
- Welcome to the world of fan films. Curious to see if you fellas will go the Star Wars route. If you do I highly recommend *Vader Episode 1: Shards of the Past* and *Darth Maul: Apprentice* (though that one has one baffling costume where a Jedi looks like a Mortal Kombat character for some reason)
- Holy crap. Fiendfyre? That's some serious dark magic and the Marauders just went from bullying/assault to straight up attempted murder.
- Never mind, Snape just used the Cruciatus curse and was going for a killing curse. *Murder, Death, Kill* seems to be on the menu today I guess. Someone call John Spartan.
- The Voldemort makeup/mask made me crack up. I'm sorry to criticize but everything was pretty good then suddenly I'm looking at a noseless Mrs. Doubtfire.
- Ending on a positive note (because I don't want to be "that guy" towards a passion project by fellow fans of something I also love). The choreography is great and I applaud the person who planned it and the cast for pulling it off. They all deserve a pat on the back.
And as usual, great reactions from Patrick, Jason and John 🙂👍
Thanks for this post. some great call outs in your comment. Couldn't agree more 💯
Are you serious?
No you're Sirius.
Great lines there. I agree with you guys about the story being otherwise bad and the production and casting being great.
That was honestly the best line,
You should react to fan film Neville Longbottom and the black witch. 💖
Totally on the list
Wasn’t James the bully tho?
How much longer are we expected to wait for deathly hallows part 2?

There is the link. No reaction since something went wrong while filming, but the post discussion. 🤷🏻♀️
Good looking out Jazzy. Thanks for the support
This thing is very well made. So much so I've watched it a few times now. However the story is very obviously written by a Snape apologist. Snape had made the decision to join Voldy before his 5th year, not after graduation from hogwarts. Also Snape never got to speak to Lily after what happened on the day of their DADA OWL so he never got closure like this. That's one of the things about his character that he never got closure. Also, Snape is an excellent duelist but he could never have taken James, Sirius and Lupin together on by himself. And James didn't use dark magic. Fiendfyre is dark magic.
Just had to get it all out
Edit: I'm not a fan James Potter or Lily either actually. So I'm not an apologist for their behavior either
You’re 💯 about all that.
And Also, it's completly innacurate to accuse serius black of the bullying, it was James Potter who was responsable for it, serius only supported him blindly Like a loyal dog..
I don’t think you and I read the same books. Sirius was blindly hateful of Snape and even set Snape off after Lupin on a jape to get killed in school. James saved Snapes life and thought it had gone too far.
We are all entitled to our own opinions but I prefer to stick to what JK actually write ✍️
@@PatrickStewart316 like i Saïd.. serius supported James Potter blindly.. he plotted a " prank " as they call it but didn't think about the Conséquences.. James Potter was the one going After snape for years..only he was clever enough not to get himself into trouble..
of course things could have gone too far because if snape was killed.. all four of the marauders would have been in trouble.. i agree with snape when he Saïd that James didn't save snape but saved himself and his Friends, why some people might think James would value snape's life when he bullied him despicably for years IS beyond me..
@@Romance_dream_ I see your point of view as valid but where you and I will have to agree to disagree. I don’t see that in the books anywhere at all. JK herself said that the bullying ceased while James was still a student and that after Sirius’ prank James thought they had gone to far. That while James was all about embarrassing Snape he never wanted things to get violent. Her words. The author. She never claims that James cared about Snape.
On the other hand. In the books, she does demonstrate that Sirius never grew up out of his hate and distaste for Snape. In fact we see Sirius continually mock and deride him in a very immature fashion.
Speaking of bullies. What would you call Snapes actions against Harry Potter himself. Talk about bullying without provocation. A grown man bullying a child because he hates his dead father.
Logical fallacy of bifurcation states erroneously there can only be two choices. It seems you think if James didn’t care about Snape than he was an evil monster. The fact of the matter is that James NEVER sought to kill Severus as portrayed in the Mauraders fan film.
And let’s not forget that JK has always stated Snape was never a good guy. He was gray at best. I love Snapes character dearly. He is my favorite. But let’s be fair in how we call it.
@@PatrickStewart316 i'm not sure why snape is described as an " adult" or grown man in your Minds to be honest.. reaching a certain age doesn't Make someone a grown up.. snape was clearly psychologicaly damaged in the Books.. he was agitated..insecure..unable to control his emotions.. lives in his inner termoil..forced to teach in a school that he hates because he was bullied and humiliated in it almost every single day.. forced to teach a kid that he doesn't want to see, he should be anywhere else but Dumbledore forced him to bé there ( because he needs his help destroying Voldemort) whenever Snape sees Harry or Neville he couldn't control his emotions..
Snape never got over what the marauders did to him( and yes it did get physical at Times.. James even sexualy harassed snape in snape's worst memory) , because he was the targeted victim, James walked away unscathed after 6 years of bullying.. Lily choosing to be with him of all people deterioriated snape's mental health even further..
As for serius.. killing snape was " stupid" it would get them into trouble.. while serius didn't think about the Consequences, James did, this doesn't mean that James IS a better person who values snape's life and doesn't want him to get killed..After all they thought only of themselves,
serius was alive much later while James was dead, so serius and snape still fighting makes sense, but this doesn't mean that serius didn't mature while James did.. i Hope you understand what i mean even if you don't agree, because Rowling made a perfect picture of school bullies that should have Never been excused for their actions.. but people forgive them saying : ow they were just kids..
@@Romance_dream_ this is perhaps the best and most logically consistent presentation you have presented to me. Your issue is with the Marauders “getting away with it”. This I wholeheartedly agree with. I used to teach a class in public schools called 10 ways to defeat the bully without fighting. Bully’s are low self esteem cowards. No nice way to put it. They make themselves feel better by abusing others.
Which brings me to Snape. Snape, by definition is a bully. Regardless of how damaged he was, it can NEVER excuse his abuse e actions toward Harry and Neville. At some point you have to take responsibility for your own bad behavior and healing. As Dumbledore said, Severus put his faith in the wrong person.
We are all damaged people to some extent and make bad choices in the present based off horrible life experiences we had in the past. But if you’re going to excuse Snape, then you have to excuse James. May as well excuse Voldemort, after all he was a sociopath and mentally & emotionally incapable of love. 🤷♂️.
Returns to what sparked this conversation, what happened in Snape and the Marauders after Hogwarts never happened. It’s fan fiction.
But I will end with this. Dumbledore consistently said it’s our choices that define us. James CHOSE to save Snape. Regardless of his motivations he chose to do so. Snape CHOSE to save Harry, and even went so far as ti reveal it was for no love of the boy but for Lily. Dumbledore didn’t force Snape to it. Manipulate? Yes. But what made Snape brave was his choice. If you’re going to denigrate James saving Snape because his motivation was wrong then you must dismiss Snape as well. The same standard applies or doesn’t.
Annnnnnd. Had James never saved Snape there would have been no Snape to save Harry. Harry called Snape the bravest man he ever knew. Not his father. Not Sirius. Not Remus. But Snape. Brave because of what he chose.
I never heard of this. Lol not bad though
