Why do ppl shame her so much for her body and say she is “overweight”? She is literally GORGEOUS. K-idol or not she is human and it is unrealistic that EVERY single idol’s body is the same.
I'm kinda mad that so many people complain about idols being 'too skinny' or 'not healthy looking' and yet, when a YOUNG GIRL who has yet to even mature fully, looks perfectly healthy and strong, people freak out?? She's not that big. She's actually really normal, especially if we're talking in terms of international standards. Kyla was born in the USA, and she'd be a great size if she were still there. Granted, she is in South Korea now, and you could argue that she should adhere to their standards, but why? There's no point. She's beautiful and talented and her body doesn't change that. She's not a bad influence and she's never done anything wrong. What's the point of female idols being for girls too if they can't be good role models? Super Junior's Shindong was quite large and was still loved by the public, EVEN AFTER HE FAT SHAMED FAT GIRLS! What I'm saying is that there is an obvious bias against anyone not 'perfect' in the industry, and there's a chance we can change that with Kyla. There's also an intense double standard when it comes to male and female idols. Female idols should not be held to a higher standard than male idols. Kyla and the rest of Pristin are lovable as people, as singers, as dancers, as girls, and not just as pretty things to look at.
Kyla is NOT fat. She is the healthiest member of the group. Its just that the others are unhealthily slim that She seems plus Size but really all of them should be like Kyla its way healthier. i cry everytime i read comments under kyla's fancams. because i'm roughly the same size as her and i have always been considered fat bc i live in asia, where the weight standards is being stick-thin. but i see a lot of comments defending her and saying she's beautiful and she looks alright and healthy. and that makes me cry because i wonder if people would say the same thing about me? the only people who have ever said that to me in person are a few of my friends and some family members. at school, when classmates start talking about weight, i joke about mine to hide my insecurities about it. and they all actually agree that i am fat and some even make fun of me for it. but i try to laugh it off every time just so they don't know that it gets to me. honestly, i wish i wasn't born in asia because maybe in another continent i could probably be considered average and not fat.
honestly.. it doesn't get better even if you're in a western country. in every country, people fat shame people who aren't stick thin. the only difference is that in western countries they won't tell you to your face, but in asia they're a lot more honest
I live in brazil and the beauty standards are a bit different from the asian one Here they like curvy woman with large hips and big breast but i still feel like my body is not good because internet and tv only show skinny people to me and makes me feel unnatural Seeing someone who isn't skinny as other girl group members is different to me but that really made me feel like this is my body and i should love myself the way i am Another thing: girls easily accumulate fat differently from boys because when we get pregnant we need this fat to be transformed into energy for us and the baby plus being fat doesn't mean you're unhealthy i go to school by foot while my skinny best friend goes by car and i eat less junk food than her maybe that's why she is constantly at the hospital I hope you'll be able to find someone who likes you the way you are and if those people are hurting you they don't deserve your friendship (cliche but truth)
Girl, I'm more skinnier but I also want to lose weight. Why? Because of me and because I have an ideal body type that I want to achieve. But if you feel good and beautiful in your own body, don't change anything. People will always have something to comment about your body, face, personality. The thing is to do not listen to them. It's because it's different, Korean culture is harsh on people for looks. They have the most plastic surgery in the world and it's also not uncommon for people to point out when people have gained or lost weight unlike how it's impolite in western cultures usually. I'm happy to see an idol with curves because a fair chunk of the girls in this industry are WAY too thin. I just worry about the impact this has on Kyla, she is so young and under enough pressure as it is
Kang Jin South Korea has more plastic surgery clinics and a lot of medial tourism so I wouldn't generalize that a lot of the average Korean person have surgery (maybe in Seoul but I doubt in smaller towns/cities). I'm sure lots of idols/celebrities do but that is the same in any country. I do agree that the beauty standards are harsh but thats how it is in Asian cultures. They don't like to sugarcoat things which can be both good or bad. I think some Westerners find those things a bit too sensitive like how they hate being asked their age (I mean it is what it is?). I feel like since I grew up in a Chinese household I am desensitized to the bluntness and just take it as they aren't trying to be mean (most of the time its your relatives or people you know well enough; strangers would never say something like how you're fat and gained weight) :) . Although I do feel like Western cultures have beauty standards everyone strives for (ie tanned skin, Kylie etc) just not as strict as Asian beauty standards.

It would be a lie to call her skinny but i do think there needs to be more representations of different body types in the kpop industry. She does not need to do ANYTHING to her body just so she can look like others. Everyone is born with different body types and yes, diet and exercise do affect your shape but also do your genes. It is simply unhealthy for Kyla (and young girls who’ll be growing up seeing idols being forced to lose weight) to starve herself or go on some extreme diet. Idols are not dolls. They are people. If you call yourself a fan you have to RESPECT them as human beings and know that you cant just dress and shape them to your liking. Great performance, by the way.

I was doing ballet for a few hours a day after all. I did still eat 3 balanced meals a day. I’m not like that now, but even now I’m doing cross country, and there are some people with bodies like that. Point is, as long as your body is obtained from eating healthily and exercising, it’s a healthy body. Kyla is healthy. She very much does not look overweight. Some kpop idols that I can think of, that some people say look wayyyyy underweight, they look fine to me. When she's dancing next to girls who are 100-110 pounds it would make even a small amount of extra weight look like a lot. I bet when she's around 18 or 19 and her body finally proportions herself out, fans will think she's one of the most stunning girls. And while that will be great, they will attribute it mostly to her losing weight instead of the fact that her body finally was able to mature. i cry everytime i read comments under kyla's fancams. because i'm roughly the same size as her and i have always been considered fat bc i live in asia, where the weight standards is being stick-thin. but i see a lot of comments defending her and saying she's beautiful and she looks alright and healthy. and that makes me cry because i wonder if people would say the same thing about me? the only people who have ever said that to me in person are a few of my friends and some family members. at school, when classmates start talking about weight, i joke about mine to hide my insecurities about it. and they all actually agree that i am fat and some even make fun of me for it. but i try to laugh it off every time just so they don't know that it gets to me. honestly, i wish i wasn't born in asia because maybe in another continent i could probably be considered average and not fat.

I just worry about the impact this has on Kyla, she is so young and under enough pressure as it is
Kang Jin South Korea has more plastic surgery clinics and a lot of medial tourism so I wouldn't generalize that a lot of the average Korean person have surgery (maybe in Seoul but I doubt in smaller towns/cities). I'm sure lots of idols/celebrities do but that is the same in any country.
I do agree that the beauty standards are harsh but thats how it is in Asian cultures. They don't like to sugarcoat things which can be both good or bad. I think some Westerners find those things a bit too sensitive like how they hate being asked their age (I mean it is what it is?). I feel like since I grew up in a Chinese household I am desensitized to the bluntness and just take it as they aren't trying to be mean (most of the time its your relatives or people you know well enough; strangers would never say something like how you're fat and gained weight) :) . Although I do feel like Western cultures have beauty standards everyone strives for (ie tanned skin, Kylie etc) just not as strict as Asian beauty standards.

It would be a lie to call her skinny but i do think there needs to be more representations of different body types in the kpop industry. She does not need to do ANYTHING to her body just so she can look like others. Everyone is born with different body types and yes, diet and exercise do affect your shape but also do your genes. It is simply unhealthy for Kyla (and young girls who’ll be growing up seeing idols being forced to lose weight) to starve herself or go on some extreme diet. Idols are not dolls. They are people. Exactly! It's refreshing to see her body because she looks perfectly healthy. Sometimes I see KPop idols who look way too skinny to a point where you can see their ribcage and sometimes faint on stage, so her body is ideal.
Wish You Were Here both kyla and a singer with their ribcages slightly showing are the same distances from being ideal. When I was younger, around 7-10 years old, my ribcages slightly showed. I was doing ballet for a few hours a day after all. I did still eat 3 balanced meals a day. I’m not like that now, but even now I’m doing cross country, and there are some people with bodies like that.
Point is, as long as your body is obtained from eating healthily and exercising, it’s a healthy body. Kyla is healthy. She very much does not look overweight. Some kpop idols that I can think of, that some people say look wayyyyy underweight, they look fine to me. You know, gross exaggerations of how skinny someone is could be just as harmful to someone as exaggerations of how fat someone is. I know that firsthand. Not to say there aren’t some kpop idols that look starved, but a very large majority that people say are, just aren’t.

Let me say Kyla has only one fansite. These in front are fansite masters of all members, everyone follows their bias, it's not an attitude against Kyla as that cut video is trying to make it look like. Not to mention, there were a lot more fans there, that you can't see in the video, so yeah, completely taken out of the context.

When she's dancing next to girls who are 100-110 pounds it would make even a small amount of extra weight look like a lot. I agree with you Pledis is doing good by not forcing her to diet she is so young. I mean it may not always be like that but for now it's nice to see. Hate when I see idols that are forced to drop weight when they don't need to and look extremely underweight, it's sad.

I bet when she's around 18 or 19 and her body finally proportions herself out, fans will think she's one of the most stunning girls. And while that will be great, they will attribute it mostly to her losing weight instead of the fact that her body finally was able to mature. Some girls bodies just dont cooperate with anything, including diet change or pills, until they're older and their hormones change.
