As NPR noted she obviously has litle taste for the common chord progressions and strumming patterns we hear so often in popular music. This is an attempt at true expression, this is real music. Thank goodness for such artists.
i must have listened to this 10 times now. I found this song yesterday on Jacob's optimum music fest and it is easily my current favorite song. I feel like i could listen to this forever. Thank you so much for making this jem!
You should check her collab with snarky puppy with family dinner vol. 2! They take her work in to a very big band sound which works amazingly. That Be still cover is probably of one the best songs I’ve heard. Hands down
Wow... And I've just found you and your music this past month! Thank you soooo much Becca! You bring me back to me... Yeah, even at my age (57), you can still get lost... momentarily lose track of who you really are. LOVE those awesome lyrics. (Fell in love with "Regina". Hahaha... I watch the video in a loop! lol Keep shinning... beautiful girl. X )
Some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my life. I had assumed it was a recent BSB release when I heard it for the first time on Jacob Collier's Optimum Music Feast playlist on Spotify 10 days ago. I heard it again tonight and the Google search led me here. Brava madame :-)
This is absolutely WONDERFUL Becca! I love the video's concept as well as its execution. The kids are fantastic (your lead girl is really special, as is the gorgeous poppet Charlie Wamble). Congratulations on your growing success!! -Mandy
Stumbled on Becca and the Band whilst researching versions of Seals Kissed by a Rose.... Great singer - great band - Refreshingly different. Love the harmonies and cross rythmns!
Becca, I simply keep coming to it once and again, it reminds me of some of the best of the old Joni mitchell's songs....you've turned me into a huge fan! Please keep me posted if you play in NY anytime soon, and also if you need a piano player that can do bgound vocals, or an arranger. I'd LOVE to work with you. In deep admiration, Solla
Saw and heard Becca Stevens this year for the first time on Dutch TV in my favourite music programme Vrije geluiden! You have such a unique sound and voice and the musicians you play with are amazing when will you go on tour in the Netherlands? A fan from Adam.
I just met my dreamy, playful 8-year old self, and he's still the same awesome kid as he was back in 1978. I'm going to keep visiting with him and see what else he has to teach me.
it is a masterpiece, 11/8 and nobody's thinking about the "unnusual time structures", and of course all the other stuff thats happening, was great to see them perform live in zurich. Best, Vojko
Thanks Urszula. There should be a PDF titled "digital booklet" of all the song lyrics along with the other tracks if you purchased the album either as a digital, or as a hard copy. I'll also post them above.
Excellent! Heard it played by Jonathan Schwartz who talks and talks infringing his pitch. I thought, this better be good!! Within the first two bars of a sequence of notes in octaves by Becca Stevens and a male band member, I was hooked on the song, Becca's pitch and interpretation + their very special arrangement! One question is the timing. If anybody figured it out, tell me.
hi to chris tordini ("the guy playing with becca stevens", as i called you) - it was nice meeting you in paris (i had no idea that you'd be playing at the ermitage, as i had come to hear stephane payen, ingrid laubrock and tom rainey !) - as i told you, this video is one of the most beautiful i've ever seen, and i'm hoping that i will be able to see the band soon, in paris !
for uncompromising originality + so thoroughly unrestrained speaking from the heart + rules? of composition? did you say "rules"? R U kidding? + "love is surely gospel" if looking for kindredly spirited composer/performers I'll go with Laura Nyro
I'm addicted to this song. :) Can you help me and write full lyrics of this song? My English is too weak for understand all, and unfortunately I can't find this in the Internet...
PS: this music, precisely, is so good that it does not need the video at al, unlike 99% of the popish garbage you are poisoned with, which wouldn't stand on its own for five seconds without a millonaire video behind it
Hi, know its been six years, but hopefully youve grown enough as a musician to understand that theres a market for all kinds of music and youre not the ultimate consumer.
it is 5/4+6/4, you could say 11/4 maybe? but yeah I have to correct myself, i wouldn't write it in 11/8. I think the best way to write it down is 5/4+6/4 because in my ears it sounds like that.
The video is superb considering they rolled it with probably a very low budget, pal. this kind of music does not get a huge production behind, it is crafted with a lot of effort. I find it tasty, simple and it does not distract you from the song, which is the important thing.
This song is nothing short of a masterwork in rhythm, harmony and melody (music, basically) in my opinion but the video is strange, awkward and cheesy. Pretty good production, but the song is what shines.
Lou Ciro, with all respect, you need some lessons on musical appreciation, and specially, in good taste. this song is one of the best written in the last few years, as simple as that.
the music is interesting but too repititious. never goes anywhere. not interested in the video. music has to live on it's own merits. If it can't make it without a video, then, it just doesn't make it.
As NPR noted she obviously has litle taste for the common chord progressions and strumming patterns we hear so often in popular music. This is an attempt at true expression, this is real music. Thank goodness for such artists.
What can I say? This made me burst into tears like a little boy. So good i want to thank you from my heart for the gift of this music!
Yeah, BSB! Beautiful looking and sounding. Congrats!
i must have listened to this 10 times now. I found this song yesterday on Jacob's optimum music fest and it is easily my current favorite song. I feel like i could listen to this forever. Thank you so much for making this jem!
I began loving Snarky Puppy last year...now I love Becca Stevens and Band
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever!
I can't believe I never heard about your works before the interview Tony Garone just released on the Make Weird Music channel!
You should check her collab with snarky puppy with family dinner vol. 2! They take her work in to a very big band sound which works amazingly.
That Be still cover is probably of one the best songs I’ve heard. Hands down
@@flyingpiggy1475 I think I listened to this yesterday... And well, how cool it is to hear someone singing... Without the Autotune crap!
I adore your music!! Thank Croz I found you 🥰🥰

These are some of the greatest vocal harmonies i ve ever heard.

Muy bello! Alas para el alma! Gracias
Absolutely incredible. This will never age.
Beautiful Becca it's my favorite.💘 +Becca Stevens
Becca needs to be a thousand times more famous than she is. Exquisite tone and otherworldly vibrato. Magical talent.
Just a beautiful song. Stays in all of my iPod playlists.
What a gorgeous song this is.
I just met my dreamy, playful 8-year old self, and he's still the same awesome kid as he was back in 1978.

love this song. so artistic and just makes me happy!
great song, new kind of folk
Love the way this winds around. Reminds me a bit of Jonatha Brooke's early work with The Story.
Rob Falgiano YES! I hear that, too! Becca moves like Jonatha does.

i really like Winona Ryders music, she is very talented

Hi, know its been six years, but hopefully youve grown enough as a musician to understand that theres a market for all kinds of music and youre not the ultimate consumer.
I'm having a hard time hearing the subdivisions, can you type the meter out for me?
its just a 8/4 and groups of 7 and 9 = 16
The timing is in simple 4, slightly syncopated. Listen to the bass-line to help figure it out.
;)

Did anybody else find this hilarious?
@1:13
Imogen heap
I meant in a really really good way, you have such level of musicality. Like I am inspired by her just as much too.
Do you listen to her alot? Who's your main influence in songwriting?
We need the lyrics!!
to me, the middle section sound more like a bar of 5/4 then 6/4.
This song is nothing short of a masterwork in rhythm, harmony and melody (music, basically) in my opinion but the video is strange, awkward and cheesy. Pretty good production, but the song is what shines.
