      I´m enjoying your training, nice speech! As you said, in the volume example, i´m trying to find examples of volume increase but it seems it´s not always that way, there can be variations, right? I was checking on the 30m time frame.

      Thank you! On higher time frames you won't see it often unless it's news related due to the fact that the majority of the volume is going to be at the open and close. For higher timeframes use a relative volume indicator.@@azaxy

    My man i have been a struggle trader for almost 4 years now and everything you said was like a click for me. When you combined volume and enter and exit of market particapants, it makes prefect sense. I think i have looked at the market wrong for this whole time. Trading the market is just like a research study on the market particants and we are tring to use their past data to forcast their future behavior.

    Love your way of explaining things! Just want to make sure I have the difference between capitulation and breakout volume correct. The main difference is in capitulation... high volume occurs after a large quick move on the same side of the move; for example higher than the relative sells after a quick downside move or buys after a quick upside move. Breakout is confirmed with volume when high volume occurs in the direction of the break of a key level after consolidation. Thanks again

    • @JumpstartTrading

I think in the long run you need a forum platform to keep up with all the comments the more your channel is growing. The algos/smart money can manipulate price, but not volume. Volume is a crucial element of day trading/scalp trading. I tried scalp trading for some time on demo without any form of indicators/volume confirmations, and so far I think it is inferior to volume based trading, in my experience.

    What period MA should we use on volume for scalping breakouts on a 5 or 15 minute timeframe?

    • @JumpstartTrading
      @JumpstartTrading  11 месяцев назад

      I've always used a 21 SMA. Yet I trade on really short time frames. When you get to a 5 minute or 15 minute chart you're probably better off comparing volume to the most recent closed bars due to the face that volume will naturally drop a lot after the open. Considering a moving average is going to be lagging a lot, you won't see many breaks.

    I'm looking at 2:00 where you said you like to add a moving average to the daily volume indicator "to easily spot higher than average volume". Is the MA showing volume as well? - The last bar of the Volume Indicator(on top) shows more volume than the previous day. But the MA indicator on bottom shows the last bar as having less volume than the previous MA bar. - Am I looking at this the wrong way? Thanks.

    • @JumpstartTrading

    How useful is volume when trading Fx considering it's a decentralised OTC market? I've seen a 2013 paper suggesting 90% correlation between tick volume and actual volume. When I backtest though I don't see that much of a correlation. Can tick volume confidently be used as a surrogate for actual volume on an ECN brokergae platform?

    You can often see "new shorts" and "new longs" statistics on various platforms. I was wondering if they concern contracts and the contract is concluded by two parties (short and long), shouldn't there be equal amounts of them? A long position, for example, may be entered into with a short position or taken from another long position. If we see a disparity in the number of new longs and shorts in favor of the longs, does this mean that some players closed their positions and at the same time a large number of new market participants took over these positions? And in this case their breakeven point will be "high" - at current levels? And is it really a pro-growth signal in such a case? I would like to hear more about this mechanics.

    • @JumpstartTrading
      @JumpstartTrading  Год назад

      I'm not familiar with any platforms personally. I guess it could be done on an institutional level. You have to remember that the other side of a buy order could just be someone selling out of their long position, it's not necessarily a short...
      You also wouldn't know if it's an intraday trader or a other time frame participant which would be a major factor.

    Great video again, thanks Adam!
    Question: I would think that when trading in the moment, reading volume will be more difficult because by the time you realize that there was a lot of volume that traded at a particular price then you probably missed out on the action. And expecting more volume on the next 1 or even 5 minute timeframe could be the wrong if you enter a trade when the move is over. I think there were a few examples in the capitulation section of your video where we see a huge volume in one direction and then followed by a move in the opposite direction. Based on this, do you think reacting to what already happened based on volume (alone or along with other factors) might have flaws that can impede a sustainable trading strategy given the empirical fact (backed by a lot of scientific research papers) that markets could be very random on very short timeframes?
    I hope my question makes sense to you. Hope to hear from you.

    • @JumpstartTrading

      Hi Sam, thanks for the kind words.
      I use volume to build context, not as a stand alone strategy. Has it ever been used as a stand alone strategy before by traders? Sure.
      Example... If you're focused on news driven stocks and playing breakout setups with the proper R values, you could be profitable. In the examples in the video, you would be playing the actual breakout on higher volume. You wouldn't wait for multiple bars, or as you said you might be getting in at the end of a move.
      The markets are far from random on short timeframes. I had a very successful career trading on extremely short time frames (typically 30 seconds and lower). That or I was the luckiest man on earth for 20 years :)
      The problem with most papers done on random walk etc... is their results are all biased due to the data that they're analyzing. I'm sure if you're just analyzing price, moving averages, and other lagging indicators, it's going to look very random. Obviously this isn't the case or there wouldn't be any successful traders over the long run.
      With that being said, the outcome of a single trade will always be "random" or based on luck due to the fact that it only takes one trader to turn a winner into a loss and vice versa. Only over a series of trades will an edge produce results with any sort of reliable accuracy.

      Thanks a lot for your comprehensive response Adam. Using volume as a tool to build context totally makes sense.
      I agree with you that saying that the markets being completely “random” maybe is an over generalization. I assume that maybe means that anything can happen with just one player making a different decision - leading to other players adjusting their positions, just as you said.
      But after I spent some time reading and observing the order book, a lot of times it makes me wonder: “why would anyone buy (or sell) an asset at such a high (or low) price even after we just had a rally (or sell off) that just had its last leg”. Which is why I believe that there is some degree of randomness in the markets. So far the only time I can be sure that the market would definitely move in a particular direction is when there is an economic news or some kind of information that might make players take action. But hopefully the more I learn about the behaviours of different players I will be able to filter out the “noise” even when there is no economic news. I would assume this is why you emphasize on the point that: “context is like the CEO in trading.”
      I’m sure you must have been through some really rigorous training and learning process - I don’t think it’s possible to get lucky for 20 years haha :)
      But I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all of us. Love all your content so far and I look forward to future posts! Thank you!

      I do get data from tradingveiw for example if I choose my favourite which is XAUUSD mostly on tradingveiw it's shows broker names OANDA, FXCM , icmarkets, , vintage markets etc etc. all these charts have got same price movements but volumes will be different digitally. For example in 1 hour candle one will recording 18.9 K . Another 57k another 9 K and it becomes confusing. Which broker has got volumes that do Really matter

    • @Da1n0nlyBadGuy
      @Da1n0nlyBadGuy День назад

      @ hmmm that’s a great question I’m not sure as why it would be different, I use Oanda to trade forex and I haven’t had any issues with volume on their platform. Only thing I think it could be is one broker is getting buy/sell orders faster than the next

      @ and I don’t tend to pay attention to the contracts, I look at the price action along with volume, if you see two reversal candlesticks with high volume it typically is a good entry signal

      Yahoo doesn't have it. I'm not aware of any free services that would provide it unfortunately. You would need something like MotiveWave, Sierra Charts, or Quantower.

    One could argue that Dark Pools and Gray Pools have made volume less of an edge than it was in the past. However, for stocks with short term catalysts, volume would still be valid because large trades would placed based upon the catalyst and not made at a previous time that would be revealed 24 hours later... unless an institution has inside information, and front runs the market, of course. But we all know that never happens.
