    The problem is that a lot of the story requires you to still do it in order. You can't just start Stormblood without completing Heavensward first. There are plenty of lines that reference other events that happened, which was a very big issue in Shadowbringers with Graha Tia because they had to record different lines if you didn't do the Crystal Tower yet. That was why they eventually just made Crystal Tower a requirement. It gets really complicated real fast if you try to make every cutscene into that beginning of Endwalker where allies show up based on which quests you've already completed.

      Which made it worse since nobody cared enough about the Crystal Tower to make it worth going there. It’s the same with Hard Mode primal fights. Those were required as well.

    I think a decent compromise would be enabling a story skip option only on alt characters. On a game built arounds its narrative skipping the story is just an asinine thing to do, and including it as an option for a brand new player would be a terrible idea and would just end up with players robbing themselves of a massive part of the most basic FFXIV experience..

    What I don't like is that Estenien was a minor character in a job quest story. I know hindsight is 50/50 but I wish Square-Enix could go back and change the first set of Dragoon quests to remove Estenien, but I know they can't because it would take a lot of work and time they do not have. :(
    Same with the Monk and Ninja quests. If you start doing them after you complete Stormblood, the canon is broken because these characters want to free their lands... which are already free. :(

    I've been skipping the story since 2.0 launch. I've gone back later and read up on it. And If people wanna skip, let them. People don't only play the game for the story. This community has a lot of weird toxic gate keeping tendencies i've never understood. Like the gatekeeping in raiding is no where near as terrible as the casual gatekeeping that happens regularly.

      same, been a story skipper since ARR and probably will never go back to see it, but I've been playing nonstop. the only story i sat down for was EW since my group wanted to do the dungeons/trials together. its annoying seeing that if I'm not playing for the story then I'm playing the game wrong even though i have 4 characters that i use actively just because i enjoy the game outside the story.

    I do a hybrid skip where I watch when things start to look interesting and skip most of the filler. I also don't care for reading in mmos and start skipping when every npc gives me their entire life's story before telling me to kill 3 turtles. This is why I really got into SWTOR for a while, the whole thing is voice acted and it respects your time more. The story or more accurately the way the story is told in FF14 just doesn't capture my interest for as long as it demands.

      You can do that and get the broad strokes of the story. The story will never be that good doing that though. I have gone through the story at least 10-15x via watching streamers or alts or watching friends and there are still subtle details I find that put pieces together. You need all the information to find those details however. It does require having an attention span though, I will give you that much.

    While not a terrible idea, there’a just the question of how best to accomplish that, do you make new players sit through like an hours long cutscene that explains things, or maybe expand the unending
    Codex to show all the highlights of each character/expansion.Or do you have a series of quests that make a player go through the main sections of each expansion, or do you just skip people to dawntrail and tell them to just look it up through the cutscene books if they want? I feel like people who wanna skip won’t care regardless of what they make them do, thier gonna complain they don’t get the story.

      There is no question, people who don't want to play the story, don't want to play the story period. Those who level on their own can't even enjoy any endgame content cause they're locked behind MSQs. To make it worse the ones against skip are either the ones who got through it and would be mad if others didn't have to go through the same, or are the ones who are lore heavy and think everyone else cares about it the same and that the game would be ruined by skipping when in fact for non story players it doesn't get ruined at all, the game has way more than just silly story. A lot of people don't even want to do MSQ Roulette in fear of getting Praetorium.

      I was a story cutscene skipper once. Then I used new game + and learned that the story did indeed suck balls. Except for Shadowbringers, it was boring as hell and way too predictable.

    You're arguing for the option to start a novel in the middle of the book. Sure, you can do that if you like.

    • @BeatdownGG
      @BeatdownGG 5 месяцев назад

      No, they are arguing the option to start a book series with the 3rd book out of 7 instead of the first.

    • @powerofk

      @@BeatdownGG Which is fine, if each book in the series is a self-contained story. But if the series is a trilogy that was originally a single story (Lord of the Rings) or if the series is a continuous story (think the original three Foundation books, which were a collection of short stories that, even though they span thousands of years, really require reading the previous short stories to understand). FF14 is a bit different-more like a multi season anime (think Dragon Ball or YuGiOh) where what happens in earlier seasons affects what happens later, and it makes a bit more sense if you watch the whole thing, but you can jump in at the beginning of a new season and mostly understand what’s going on.
