This kind of dual level, which can ONLY work in a Super World, is perhaps the greatest argument for a "do not let this appear in other gamemodes" checkbox on your level.
Because you'd be screwed so hard on an endless run if you saw this.
Pretty much any troll level ends your endless run.
And with that code setup, level viewer does no shit lmao
At least there is a chance Nintendo deletes the wrong level

Those two "Wrong Level" levels reminded me of that one troll level with two paths, and the player had to restart the level to enter the first checkpoint from a different direction to enter a different path, and each path constantly gave a hint how to progress in the other path which made the player to restart the level over and over again. The only difference was that in this case there were two levels using the same idea instead of just one level.
Stuff like this is why troll levels are the greatest levels in Mario maker imo. It takes skill to make a great traditional or kaizo level, but the skills needed for a great troll level is just leagues above.

The Wrong Levels were some of the last finished, mainly made by Jneen, Stevo and Marble. The contraption for the code was one of the most complex things we've ever made.

you might run into problems including 3D because items just don't exist.
but the other 4 could work, and the real issue is getting the player to go back to the correct level each time they need to change

I agree but i also think this is very hard to do and maintain so you dont get into weird Issues and or ppl figuring out Stuff way before they should.
@@gardian06_85 well, if you have something like the banned wagon website set up, then you could have the hints be codes that you input instead of physical blocks, which would not only allow for hints across 2D/3D, but also for easier text description (since text in Mario Maker levels can take up a lot of room)

The soft lock you hit at 6:48 was indeed fixed in a later rev of the level. (It now dispenses a Big cannon on you, as I found out over and over and over again.)
I also had the exact same reaction, fully shouting *WHAT* at the TV, when I hit the bit at 18:50. It’s a perfect setup.
They actually fixed that softlock before Carl played that level and were trying to scream at him in chat during the stream to update it, he did not notice.

'Mario Commits Key Die' is probably my all-time fave troll level (even though I possibly shouldn't have enjoyed it so much considering there were way too many Poison SMW1 levels being made at the time), so watching this partial homage to it was an absolute delight.
I kept waiting for one of the 'wrong level' hints to send you back to like the first level of world 1 or something for like the final hint.

Re: piranhas and munchers same plants
A recent DGR video addressed this at great length. It depends who you ask. In the Japanese folklore there is not official answer. In the North America instruction booklet for SMB3 the section that goes over the different baddies does say munchers and piranhas are the same plants, although many argue this was ad lib artistic liberties by the American translators without getting an official Seal Of Approval by Nintendo of Japan.

That's reminds me so much of the idea I had where you would go through a level to get a code to go through a level to get a code until eventually you learn the dev exit for level 1 which shows you the dev exit in another level when you beat level 1, and repeat.
These masters of trolling just took that idea and improved on it.
I used to agree with "nintendo needs to fix this because it doesn't work properly" and then i see those elaborate set-ups and it vaguely reminds me of a comedy sketch where the character would try their best to break stuff and then blame shoddy workmanship (father ted iirc).

Also I was totally hoping for some hint to only work on like.. the first permutation of a level and not the version where you have all the knowledge checkpoints so you have to wrestle with "wtf am I meant to not know right now?"

I didn't realize that "Don't Go Here First" actually wanted you to not go there first. I thought I kept missing something and had to look up a speedrun video, and I cheated not only the level but myself. These two levels I just didn't understand until I saw your video.
