Slap Fight, Developed by John Meegan and published by Imagine in 1987. Also known as Alcon in the US.
An arcade original game by Taito and converted to the C64 and other 8/16 bit computers of the time. It’s a fairly simple Shoot em up and doesn't look too bad for a 1987 c64 game. It plays ok with some nice music but the collision detection can feel a bit ropey at times especially when using the extra wings powerup (allows you to take more hits). As quick as it is collected , it is shot away again. The laser weapon doesn't seem to display properly. You just have to know that any enemy in front of you will be killed when fired. It's not bad as a shoot em up on the C64, but I would not say its a must play or anything.
The Longplay opens with Ocean Loader v3 by Peter Clarke before playing out the title screen music which sounds really naff after the great loader tune. It all starts to sound like the music was ripped from the Master System. I then play through one loop of the game and steadily lose any remaining lives in the second Although I think I do try to get the maximum shields/wings powerup.

Damn I remember my childhood playing this game for hours.
Same here! :)
This is one video game alright. Like something a TV show would put on screen to show Retro Game™
One of my favourite games. Although I had memorized the order in which all enemies came into the screen. So I could win the game over and over and over again as it just restarts from the begining once you get to the end.
Aww they didn't really show how the laser weapon distorts thd music when you hold the button down. It's like a gargly remix.
Also was i the only one as a kid who thought the boss at 14:00 looked like it was off the kids tv show Big Bertha?
At first I was confused by the title, but it makes sense now - this opening song fucking SLAPS.
I love how the LASER weapon would sing along the melody of the music when you fire it long enough xD
Great port. Nice graphics, good audio, and smooth gameplay makes this a winner!
C64 music once again owns.
Probably the best looking, sounding, playing, v.shoot'er on C64 ^_^
A space shoot em up called Slap Fight?
Originally called Alcon.
Я помню эту игру
Y this channneL cant get 1M
videos uploaded at dawn certainly admirable
You don't really have to switch away from homing missiles. Also, there was a glitch in the PAL version with the speed powerup; use too many and you slow down. IIRC my power up strat was a couple of speeds, side, max wings, missiles. Easy mode. :D
music is good , just like arcade
I got this in a compilation box set in 1990 - Taito Coin-op Hits. Good memories.
If you didnt fire a shot and just evaded it teleported you a little further into the game upon dying.
It's a good arcade conversion, the music in game is the same as the original and gfx are decent for an 8-bit machine. Some say the game is slow, it's normal the original game is slow too.
The arcade is 8bit
@@carlopepi And what ?
@@SocrateTheCat You said its good for an 8 bit the arcade uses a z80 8bit cpu
@@SocrateTheCat Truth is a lot of arcade games used additional chips for added colour extra tilemaps etc
@@carlopepi As you said, arcade games have custom board for the game. When I talk about 8bit, it's 8bit personal computers that have non-customized and cheap hardware.
How do you select the weapons ? How do you change weaponry after collecting stars ?
Good question Megas - let me answer it for you !!!
Space
You gather stars to move to the weapon of your choice and once you are there you hit space to select it.shot, bomb, laser and homing missile deselect any of the other weapons but wing, side and speed work with all of them and can be selected multiple times.
You cannot select the weapon you want whenever you want.
@@wakkawagga443 unfortunately i only have the c64 so pressing space is not possible whilst playing. Thanks for responding though.
I fear if you cannot access the keyboard while playing the game is not really playable. Have some fond memories trying to push through it with my best friend when we were just kids.
@@wakkawagga443 i can just imagine the fun you had, after all it was one of the best overhead shooters on the 64 - but i never got fully into it as it was very difficult. Another game which needed spacebar to change attack mode was the well converted kung fu master - a bloody brilliant game.
Intro music doesn't match style of game music. Weird.
It’s just an ocean loader they were used on a number on games
@@yopdopstoparundell9563 Yea that seems so.
joga nada
C'est lent!
C'est conforme à la version arcade.
I just came to comment
