Undoubtedly a work of art and a very well setup reproduction of this period airliner. Worth watching the engine start sequence along ! Flown by Joachim Damrath, this Handley Page 42 oozes style and elegance as it cruises around the sky at the Airliner Treffen Show. At 1/10th scale the Wing span / wingspan is 3.96 metres and length is 2.8 metres. A fantastic and unique flying aircraft of a bygone era of airliner passenger travel.

Absolutely love the “Golden Years” of British aviation. What a beautiful model! 😊👍 Looks so period, I’ll bet he even had passengers getting served with cream teas and other luxury trimmings. 😉 Mind you, there’d have been a few complaints to the Chief Steward about the “rather rough landing, old boy...” 🧐

This old ,a lot odd craft I got a glemps of it during the meeting when u has a quick walk thought it is an attention getter I'm sure during its hay day and still today. Never would have had the chance to even dream something like this up if not for Essential RC! Much Thanks to Mr Dom and all of Essential RC Crew!!

Yup...obviously a fantastic builder and not bad flying until the landing. Just didn't fly it to the ground with the throttle. Lesson learnt I suspect. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

fantastic craftsmanship on a rarely seen aircraft type. I'm happy it survived the pilot's landing 'finesse'.

When it was first shown the HP42 was criticised by the aviation press and described as having "built in headwinds". But it had an outstanding safety record all 8 surviving up to WWII...

Beautiful sight. Sadly no HP42’s left at the time I joined HP. Missed them by about fifteen years. We did have a project around 1958, to reconstruct a short section of cabin to hang on a museum wall, demonstrating comfort in air travel during the 30’s. As with many projects of this nature, the cost was too excessive - so it went away. However, I did retain a couple of, now starting to fade, large dyeline prints of HP 42 loading diagrams, that I very occasionally get out of their envelope to study with nostalgia. Good to see the model includes the leading edge slats, designed (I believe) by Dr Gus Lachman and first test flown on the “Gugnunc”, that must have been the very first STOL airplane. Great memories.

P.S. - to my earlier post. I believe that the HP 42 series, both East and West version, is still the only passenger transport aircraft, to have finished service and never to have suffered a passenger fatality. Something of which to be proud.
Very nice model. Landing was a bit rough,but like they say,any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

What were the engines?
Lucky to get away with that landing, really not easy. Bust the wheel covers . Some down thrust could be the answer, as soon as the throttles opened up she went. Good save though. Beautifully built
How on earth does it control 4 IC throttles simultaneously? And imagine tuning that lot!
Yeah...I've seen some guys have a lot of problems starting multi engine RC planes but this guy have it ready to perfection. I can forgive the landing when the model was that well constructed and setup. Just brilliant. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
One way to do it might be to run two engines at full throttle, bringing the model to just below stall speed, and throttle the other two for takeoff and control.

Plus, these good shots would come from the camera itself with an action camera.
So hard to practice landings on these monsters. Its not like they exist in RC simulators, and flight slots are a premium. You cant spend all day doing touch and go's, other people want to fly too :)
It survived the landing well, minus the wheel covers. Probably good to go again after a quick check over. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing, and any landing you can go back up again straight away, is even better.
Yeah, hard landing, lack of practice on that model possibly, maybe could use a tad more speed so not so close to stalling point, strip seems long enough to handle a slightly faster landing.
Otherwise, excellent flight and lovely model.

Worst landing ever...
Actually, not... only lost a couple of flimsy wheel covers, everything else was pretty much intact. Its flyable again straight away, so an acceptable landing. By no means the best landing ever, but far from the worst.
