This video may be seven years old, but it showed me a tool and how to use it to remove my broken bathtub drain today. Thank-you for leaving up this video on RUclips.

Thanks for the video, this totally worked! Home Depot did not list the drain removal tool in their online inventory, but I found one there anyway for about $20. I recognized it only because I saw this video first, then was browsing the shelves for some other replacement parts and noticed it tucked away in the corner. Thanks again!

Thanks for the video demonstrating the removal of broken spud which helped me to change my drain. It was difficult to turn the drain with the drain key & wrench. So I turned on the hot water for some time which helped me remove the drain with the drain key & wrench. The handyman gave an estimate of $575.

And if that don't work, break out the sawzaw with a fine metal blade! Put paper towel in the drain to protect the bottom. Then carefully cut two slits. When you get close to cutting through stop! Use a small common screwdriver and pry the cuts until it pops out. GL

That's the extractor tool!!! I've been holding off this job a month thinking if the pliers didn't work, people said I might need an "extractor tool" as if it would be a large complicated expensive plumbers device!! It's basically an oversize bolt. Thanks for the stress relieving video!

Boy I needed this video, old house was here when my Dad was a boy, he was able to buy from the people across the street where he grew up & where my 93 yr old Grandma lives now. Old brass drain with no metal to put the one tool on, so I guess I'll spend 20$ on the drain extraction tool. Underneath brass nut to pipe doesn't want to come loose. This video saved me on the top portion, I think I got it from here, thanks Dave.

      Habor freight heat gun
Heat the nut it will expand
Cool water in the pipe will help keep the pipe smaller
      When changing oxygen sensor
I put wrench on start car try to turn
When exhaust hotenuff it just gives

My dad has that exact socket wrench, which he had for at least 40 years. He bought quite a few newer craftsman socket wrenches over the years, and the old craftsman like the one you have outlasted all of them. Hang on to that wrench, you can't find any made as good as that one anymore.

Take a hack saw blade cut down the inside of the old drain ,takes a couple of minute's, then with a screwdriver slide it down one side between the drain and it's fitting threads .The drain will split ,bent it and take it out. Your cost for tools 50cents for the blade and doesn't everyone have a screwdriver.

That's a Dream Scenario for a lightly corroded bathtub drain.....half the time it won't come out so easy when badly corroded. Then the last resort is using a Sawzall with fine tooth blade and carefully, slowly cut until you can remove it with some pliers....Been there; done that.....

Right on. My predicament with two drains that just collapsed when I tried to remove them. I knew that there was no bloody way the removal tool would work. These drains are way too brittle to withstand the pressure needed to turn them. Well, back to Home Depot to hopefully find that second remover.

Thank you for the video, I have been trying to get a plumber to come out but it must be too cheap of a job that they are not coming for so little!!! Now I was afraid that the piece underneath the tub may drop down bellow the house after removing the piece! Is that underneath piece hooked up to the tub that he actually will not fall off? Thank you very much that may only be a simple fix. 👏

This tool is better than the cheaper one. But even this superior tool need lots of muscle power if your drain is old. Also 1/2 socket wrench is not used at home. So you will need to buy a new one . If you are old and the drain is old then call your plumber.

Lol mines broken the opposite way. The threaded end snapped off the top metal lip. So hoping it'll just be a putty knife for the upper part and then use the drain key tool to twist out the threaded part from the bottom. It's kinda floating around under my tub so hopefully won't be to hard to get it to thread in the new one lol

    • @boxelder9167
      @boxelder9167 6 лет назад

Will Boy you can cut the vapor barrier and access the plumbing from underneath the trailer. Replace the drain assembly with a new one. If you have trouble unscrewing The strainer basket glue something to it with JB Weld like a large flat washer and A nut on top. Wait for it to dry and then turn it out with a wrench.
