Your concept of land management and low operating costs are the pillars of success. Greg Judy is the ultimate in show and tell. Save the soil with proper grazing management.
How will the South Poll do in the cold of South Dakota. We can see at times down to -40F. Long stretches of temp never rising above 0 are common in the winter. In the summer we get hot and humid too.
So you’ve convinced me to get South Polls, but where can we get any? I can’t even find one. I’m just starting out but no cattle available. Trying to find St Croix sheep, same issue. Frustrating
The real question is.......what type of equipment did you feel you needed before you became a victim of debit ? A basic tractor.. mower.... and custom baled or own a baler. The equipment might cost....... a total of 15000 dollars ? I know.....Ive been down this road. Not bankrupt...but bought the equipment. Something tells me there is something wrong with this / that picture !
Well, I'm not a farmer, just someone who likes to see farms operated this way using regenerative agricultural methods. Did you watch the video or any of his others? Did you see a tractor? A mower? A baler? Or even a barn? As Greg has insisted over and over, invest in the cattle, lease the land, buy some electric fencing and a setup to give the cattle water, and your labor moving them from paddock to paddock is free. Oh and depending on how bad the land was degraded before you got it, you might have to spread some seed, but the cows might be able to stimulate grass growth on their own. This is how to make a farm pay and enable the farmer to have a life, too.
Greg speaks directly to this mistake in the middle of this video. He made those mistakes too. What he does now is entirely different and does not require a lot of equipment. Hell, he went for 15-16 years without a tractor, and he almost never puts it into the field. He doesn't put hay out with a tractor, he doesn't mow except when he's got too much grass. He buys hay rather than stealing carbon from his own soils, he's importing carbon from other farms that way (and seeds). Greg will teach us if we listen. I've been listening.
@@wadepatton2433 Ive grazed milk cows for 40 years. Im very familiar with how grazing works. It is no religion or cult and there is nothing wrong with debt if controlled. There is nothing wrong with owning equipment be it whatever. There is nothing wrong with using chemicals to control weeds if it fits into the operation. Its not about being " organic" or even close to it. Its about production. Note how many grazers there are whom milk cows ? Its because in most all operations it dont work ! Thats because of management resulting in failed " production" . Cows.....be they milk cows or stock cows fail to realize just that " production " ! I promise you anyone whom grazes milk cows and is profitable is a special breed. Milk cows would go dry on pastures where stock cows graze. Its reality !
@@wadepatton2433 Still its about production ! As I stated....grazed milk cows for 40 yrs. Only had 35 milk cows.... 160 acres. No off farm income. I never had a bankruptcy issue. But had a few bad years ! Young farmers can start out farming today. But most dont have the true " desire " to do it !

Greg Judy is the man.
He's full of it sometimes but he does a lot of good stuff
I can't see these videos enough! So much to learn from Greg!!
Wonder how would they do in Michigan ?
Can a calf from an unregistered dam be registered if it’s aired by a registered south poll?
Wondering how the South Poll cattle would do in the Northern Ontario Canada winters.

Amen Greg!!
"So far, we're not taxed on that." Lol
Not yet, Mr. Judy. Not yet.
No kidding.

Where do you go to buy south poll cattle? Can I buy them in Texas.? Thank you Mr. Greg Judy..👍😎
Greg, would south polls do well in New York
Well put
Will south pole make it in texas
should, particularly anywhere east of the I35 corridor
I believe they were developed in Alabama, so I would think so.
As long as you have water I'd think they'd do well.
They were developed in Alabama by Teddy Gentry they should be fine in the Texas heat
