IT has been going since the 80's with IBM, these characters were already established in pop culture. I shared a house back in the 90s with a guy who did IT for intel, you would not believe the money he was on, and the injoke was "have you tried turning it off and on again?" Another IT joke from back then was "Bill Gates gets into a his car and it doesn't start, what does he do? Gets out and gets back in again" Worth a chuckle or two back then but that actually hurt to write in 2024!
