    Venhill has cable kits and misc parts like plain cable, cable nipples, adjusters, sheathing in case anyone is interested.

    Good, useful information. I have not made my own set of cables before, but I think this will come in useful as my project progresses. Thanks

    LUKE...great info. What method did you use to shorten the cable housing? Seems tricky since there's the metal liner. This is great to know since I want to shorten the choke cable on my '80 CB650 Bobber Build project. Universal units are hard to find in the USA. Eu only.

    I would like to see how deep you put the cable with the new end into the melting stuff.
    Also the new stopper or ending cable is made of steal rather then the original one that look soften.

    Hi Luke,
    I've tried to mimic your method but my soulder won't wick up the cable. In fact even trying to apply heat to the end of a test piece and soulder directly doesn't work. I'm using 60/40 (lead free) and shoulder paste too.
    I've made my own melting pot and have a butane torch underneath.
    Can you help? I'm stumped. 😣

    Would it be a bad idea to use silver solder?

    I wonder whether these barrel steel-lead ends to be secure enough once you braked at a speed of 120 km / hour?

    Is the lead % necessary or can you use newer solder with no lead?

    • @LukeDaniel

      Lead seems to be stronger in my experience.

    Could lead-free solder work just the same?

    the cable end piece isn't made of a hard alloy, it's just solder. the problem is the steel control cable fibers embedded in it, so it's like a composite material made for snapping drill bits, haha
    Not sure what kind of drill bit you would need for that, but im guessing something like the tungsten carbide grit hacksaw blades.

      Luke Daniel cool thanks. did the new setup match the old master cylinder bore size? or did you decide to use a different size to change lever feel?

    Good idea with the hose; But... with a straight steering wheel, this could Not have worked! Unless you never plan on turning. Bin there, done that..

    Why are there 2 throttle cables?

    • @LukeDaniel
      @LukeDaniel  7 лет назад

      One pushes, one pulls.

    • @ChaoticDetour
      @ChaoticDetour 7 лет назад

      It's a safety feature that many motorcycles have. 1st Pulls to operate the throttle, the 2nd Push cable is to make sure you can close the throttle in case of cable binding that over powers the throttle return spring. Keeps the bike from running away while you are one it.
