    Pure Genius. I knew someone would come up with a solution. I hope you filed a patent, because someone will now start marketing this. Awesome idea.

    I wondered how this was going to work. I was thinking a RTT would be perfect for the DB cover but then I thought I wouldn’t be able to access the bed unless through the tailgate. This is pretty awesome! Strong work!

    Hey Efrain. I ended up just using a cinch strap and one D ring with hook for a secondary. Works really well. I love this Diamond Back cover and just wanted to use it to its full potential. Sadly since the video someone decided to reach for their phone while driving and hit me on left rear quarter panel at 75MPH. My tent set up remained solid and did not compromise.

    are you not worried about the front catching wind and lifting up? Otherwise it's awesome!

    • @njkomp

      The front has a locking mechanism so it won’t flip up on its own.

      It wont let me upload the video I took on this thread. But basically there is a safety bar that you have to manuall disengage for the front to go all the way up, also, the handle (latch) that you twist to open it has a lock. They are pretty safe!

      @@justinwilliams2144 I think they are talking about the stuff that comes with the Diamondback cover. But like you I'm wondering how they keep the tent from lifting up while driving. Those struts aren't gonna hold it down at freeway speeds.

    Brian - great job on this and very impressive solution! Mind sharing a bit more about the 'parts' used to accomplish this build? I'd love to replicate it (giving you full credit of course!) for my Gladiator build. This seems like a great way to go vs no cover and a rack.

    • @brianpreston6659

      Thanks for the kudos Michael! It was super simple build and made sense to have access to both front and back parts of the Diamond Back. For the hinges on the rear I used heavy duty fence ones that were painted. Had to unibit them to the right size holes. The struts are 100 LBS each for lift. Makes it so easy to move up and down. To lock it down I was just using a cinch tie down but ended up mounting some L hole brackets. Then used a locking pin that was easy to pop in and out. I currently don’t have the tent on or I would take pics of it. Hope that helps. Check out the Diesel heater set up I put together. Cheers

      Hi what’s the length of the gas struts you used ? Are the two struts and cinch sufficient enough to hold the RTT during driving and off-roading?

    Nice build I’ve also been looking for something similar. Hope you made it to where you lock the front of the rtt down onto the rack itself when hitting fast speeds otherwise that rtt will go flying off on the freeway.

  • @OverlandUnderground
    @OverlandUnderground Год назад +1

    Could you hinge the front instead of the back to lower the chances of something on the tent hitting the back window?
    This would also remove the chance of it lifting up during travel (if your tie downs fails or I forget to secure them before I leave.

    • @brianpreston6659
      @brianpreston6659  Год назад +1

      You could but, the pivot point of the weight is in the back. It opens up towards the back to create a awning for the tailgate. Since then I utilized latches for a gate to secure it to the rail. Super stable with no worries of it opening.

      Honestly the weight distribution on where the rack sits in conjunction with the bed of the truck should be rated for a lot more in this case. The math should be sound because that do not exceed weight limit for the SE model I'm sure is it directly in the middle of the diamondback. let me know if you have any more questions and travel well.@@Operatetheoutdoors
