Great to finally see this again, complete and in such great quality, thank you for uploading. I love the soundtrack as well. I think I had the companion book at some stage. Great series, they really don't make 'em like this any more.
I always remember the bit where he says they couldn’t sacrifice the QE2 as she held the name of the sovereign at the time, but sacrificing the ‘Canberra’ as she ‘was only named after the capital of Australia’ was pretty damn disrespectful and a pure slap in the face. Interesting that the ‘Canberra’ went straight in dropping the troops close while the QE2 held back. Says a lot really about the British aristocracy and their outdated viewpoints. Just revisiting this after finishing a sailing on Cunard’s ‘Queen Elizabeth’ which was just fantastic. Now looking to book transatlantic on ‘Queen Mary 2’….
Time really does fly. This always used to be my least favourite episode as a kid, all the new cruise ships just looked like giant shoeboxes to me and I couldn't stand the tacky things. Half of 'em are getting scrapped now for being too old and most of the people interviewed in the show are dead. Except for Bill Miller I think. He's the eternal queen of the ocean, haha. PS. Never was able to get a response from the soundtrack guy. Bit of a shame, really like his work on this show. Maybe I can re-orchestrate it myself.
it's made specifically for the show, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a soundtrack available. I've tried using voice removal on it but it doesn't sound great, and although I tried writing to the composer I never got an answer. Great soundtrack!
So damn right. If there isn't a viral epidemic on one of these coffin rigs, it'll capsize from its sheer over-height in any rough storm. Death Star ships. Forget 'em.
@@veritas41photo capsize in any rough storm? Youd think those engineers would know what they're doing but if you say they aren't safe that does it for me. I'll never go on one.
Absolutely terrific documentary! Holds up very well even in 2024... appreciate you posting this, many thanks!🤗
I watched this series about a billion times when I was 12. I just wish it had a soundtrack haha, the 'poop poop' ship music is awesome
I really like the soundtrack too! I like the kinda wistful track that plays at the start of the episodes. Kinda like a memorial to the old big ships.
I might write to the guy and see if he still has the music, it's honestly kickass
@@BD12 Please, if you get a response, I would adore to have that!
@@DarthMeteos nothing yet but a guy can dream, haha

@@andrewthomson nope, I was being polite
It's cool that Carnival Destiny is still in service but under the new name Carnival Sunshine.
Anyone know the name of the accompanying song from 51:51 to 53:57? Been trying to put a name to it for 20 years.

Cruise ships are not ocean liners!
