Keep your chin up, Sam! Golf is hard! Love your videos! You are certainly a sub - 5 HCP, but golf is mercurial and improvement doesn’t come in a predictable, gradual way

@@FlankerJackChannel Have a lesson or two to reset your mind AND swing. You can get bogged down, that's for sure but you can't see what YOU are doing. You need the help of a pro. Golf's like three steps forward, two steps back. It's an EXTREMELY difficult game.

@@alisonburgess345 definitely going to have to get a lesson I'm just worried that I'm going to get too many things in my head and jumble things up. Golf is actually an extremely simple game but instruction makes it overly complicated. It's not hard to take a club away and return it to its original position and lessons have messed me up in the past beyond what I am right now.
I think I need to get a lesson with trackman or something to understand what my club is actually doing.

Class video. So hard when you know you can play better. Got down to 9.7 this year and have jumped to 10.2 and will keep going up the way I’m playing. I’m gonna start concentrating on playing golf rather than obsessing over scores - shot 90 in a comp on weekend when I’m trying to break 80 😤

I'm in the same spot. In June, I was totally locked in. Down to an 8 and on pace to go lower. I just started slumping really badly in July, right before golf team tryouts. I was a total mess playing through the three days of tryouts. I decided to see a sports psychologist after I learned I did not make the cut to be on the team, and my game changed fast. The psychologist helped me work through a lot of my pressure and anxiety and now I am back down to an 8. Golf is so much more than mentally fortifying yourself from shot to shot. A lot of it at our point in the game is self made pressure of "I need to perform, pressure is on, don't choke." or overthinking our swing. I think a lot of people, you included, would benefit from a few sports psych meetings. I hope my experience helps you out a bit. I'm stoked to see where your game goes from here!

Thanks for the detail! I totally agree… I think most of the poor rounds come down to too much pressure to score and a lack of confidence.

I think you are indeed pretty brave filming a live competitive round and risking all for the camera. So well done for that. I only know one other youtuber who has done something similar recently. He is also WHS single digit and went around in the 90's.But like you he still posted the video. I myself have managed to get down to 12 , but its been a month or so since a decent round of 81-83. When I can, I always put my hcp on the line through golf England or in a competition.
Frankly I am just fed up with the inconsistency and the uncertain outcomes of what is termed the conventional golf swing. From a personal perspective I am working on a swing that is designed to reduce the variables that lead to frustrating golf. It will also include not using driver or woods of the tee and fairway. But as you demonstrated in a recent video using a 4i off the tee can still yield a score in the 70's. I will watch your progress with interest.

Most common golf swing error. Over the plane through the ball (slight over the top) with the clubface slightly open before impact. Lots of fixes, but yours is mostly because the takeaway is too inside. At your level, just think a little more closed clubface on the backswing, even just 18 inches into your takeaway. Your natural ability will take over (you’ll feel that if you don’t swing correctly you’ll smother hook it; you won’t.) Little mismatches lead to big curves. When you then tense up or swing harder, it makes this particular combination (spin axis) worse.

Take it from me im a 1.7 currently and will go through weeks of not being able to break 80. I will completely loose my swing. What gets it back is to stop trying so hard or forcing it. You know how to swing without thinking so just let go and let it happen.

You are not alone. I have went from 11.1 to 14.5 (currently). I know my issues but the discipline to resolve is my challenge. I was trying to over hit, my tee shots especially. This weekend I lipped out far too many putts. Even taking 50% of my lip outs would have returned a card in mid 80’s… frustrating 😂

Yeah we’re very similar in that respect. I wish I filmed my round the day before, it was the total flip of this round. I was dreadful off the tee but amazing on the green… making 8 footers etc.
So frustrating… I suppose this series as actually a search for routine and consistency!

Are you getting GIR approx 7-8 holes a round? That’s what a 8 handicap would approx be. If not it could be down to not using driver and getting a wedge into green more often. Most of your missed 8 foot putts seemed to be from when you were scrambling and had to chip on.

That’s one of the major issues at the moment. The 2 iron off the tee seems to get me within 8-9 irons into greens. My driver currently results in losing golf balls which I can’t afford to do at the moment.
I feel like I need to get my driver going! But approach shots are killing me at the moment… as I said in the video, my scrambling has gotten good because I’m missing so many greens!
Thanks for your comment though, food for thought.

I'm scoring 10 shots worse per round right now and it simply because I cannot hit any ball off of the tee to save my life. Takes me three to four shots to get on a green and I can generally two putt. Very distressing that my game is not improving despite practice.

We’ve all been there mate. I think the rolling of the forearms is an aspect that will help to some extent but don’t over do restricting it as it will result in a closed face on the way back and other negative results and shot shapes. I also think your earlier shots in the video there was a bit of casting from out to in on the downswing causing your left to rights. And don’t forget your game will get worse before it gets better when you make swing changes. My suggestion: visit your PGA pro and invest in a series of lessons. You have a great swing and tempo, just needs a fine tune!
