    I do this all year with 3 different pizza places in town. I take their oil for free. (I personally know two of them) and it powers my Ford Excursion 6.0 powerstroke.
    Now there's some myths about biodiesel... Many people think it renders you completely independent from fossil fuels. It doesn't. You still need regular diesel to be in the engine and all fuel lines upon startup and shutoff. Otherwise: the oil, although filtered and cleaned of all impurities: can still gelatinize in the fuel lines and clog up the valves rendering your car useless.
    What I did was re-work the main fuel tank to hold 37 gallons of biodiesel.. and I have a smaller, 7.5 gallon tank of high-sulfer diesel.
    Upon startup: the truck uses the regular diesel. Then after a few minutes, an aftermarket red light on my dashboard shuts off... meaning the veggie oil in my main tank is warm enough to flow freely through the lines. So I activate a switch on the dash (also aftermarket) and switch from diesel to biodiesel.
    When I want to shut the engine off: I switch the fuel feed back to the regular diesel and wait about 5 minutes (it helps a lot if you know that you're 5 minutes away from your destination so you can just switch it then and there instead of having to idle for 5 minutes in the parking or your driveway)
    After 5 minutes: your fuel lines should be flushed of the biodiesel and you can shut it off.
    If your engine is off... so is the heating element in the veggie oil tank. So don't worry about it overheating and causing a fire. It doesn't get it anywhere near it's flash point anyways.
    Hope this helps anyone looking to convert a diesel to biodiesel!

      Nothing comes with zero environmental costs. If you go with electric vehicles you will have to deal with the pollution coming from coal and natural gas derived electricity. If you get your electricity from a windmill you will have to deal with killed birds and bats. If you get it from hydro power you will have to deal with disrupted rivers. If you want to go with all natural transportation, i.e. horses you will have to deal with their form of pollution. No such thing as a free lunch. Perhaps a far less costly lunch.

      @martymcfly8535 3 года назад +2

      All he did was warm cooking oil. That's not fuel. A simple chemical reaction is how it's turned into fuel. Warming the oil may aid in the reaction but Didn't even mention adding any chemicals to the oil. Even if you had followed it. All you did was get slightly warm cooking oil.
      You can make the fuel without the equipment listed on a smaller scale.
      ruclips.net/video/8cZPP2at8HI/видео.html
      The science of making Bio diesel is very basic chemistry. And one of those things that can improve with advanced equipment. But also be done using very basic tools. Measuring cups, and containers. The chemicals used while dirt cheap are also caustic so basic safety should be used to avoid getting them on yourself in the process.
      The video we watched was a very poor commercial that failed to demonstrate how to use the processor properly.
      If your fueling a farm and all it's equipment a small processor will be handy. If your just keeping a commuter car going you can go by the video I linked.

    • @martymcfly8535
      @martymcfly8535 3 года назад +1

      @@adamtain7627 The worst kind of false advertising. First while it is possible to use just filtered cooking oil as a fuel. (Some US military vehicle engines are built purposely to handle all sorts of crap as make do fuel. Including cooking oil. Meant for adaptability in a combat situation.)
      However that said the reason people make bio diesel in the first place is because cooking oil used as a fuel is long term not good for the engine. The difference between cooking oil and bio diesel is that cooking oil while it contains what you need to use as fuel. It also contains alot of crap that can't burn or don't ignite well in an engine. This leads to rapid build up in the engine.
      The video I linked noticed how the Cooking oil goes from looking like Cooking oil to crystal clear almost like water? That's because that process is stripping out the crap that can't burn.
      The left over crap if you got the right set up can be further processed into soap. You could straight up become zero waste with a good bio diesel set up.
      But yeah why that's the worst false advertising is it will damage people's property. Like if you wanna say you can use straight up cooking oil as fuel you can. But don't fucking omit important details like the fact it causes rapid engine build up, and long term is bad for the vehicle. As a desperation fuel situation it's fine. Like run out of fuel in the middle of nowhere. Nobody has fuel. But maybe you got cooking oil on hand enough to get you to the next gas station.

    It's all well and good to make it at home, but how do you deal with the waste? The cheats way to make it is just mix methanol and settle it out, but it is crude and unrefined. The industrial system uses acid esterification which is highly refined but leaves some nasties behind. You can recoupe methanol, glycerine and pottasium phosphate but you are still left with water phase (acid) and highly alkalised water at the end of glycerine extraction. Not so environmentally friendly.

    Could someone explain about effect if i mix biodiesel (B20) with olive oil? using 30ml olive oil for 50 litres biodiesel. Could it can increase performance?

    • @bishop4077
      @bishop4077 4 года назад

      B20 is already at what most manufactures classify as the safe sulfur to bio diesel ratio. Cooking oil and olive oil are not necessarily one in the same when we're talking about fuel as there's going to be different fat to oil ratios. I would suggest trying to find a bio diesel manufacturer in your area or even a trusted diesel mechanic that could help better answer your question.

    How can this be precise when nothing is mentioned about a catalyst for separation of glycerin from bio-diesel with methoxide? The glycerin settles to the bottom of the tank and bio-deisel rise to the top of the tank. The glycerin is then drained off with a value at the bottom of the reactor tank.

    There is no such thing as green combustible fuel. Though with biofuel, one doesn't need to worry about oil leaks.

      Thats the thing. Biofuel is a name for all fuels made from biological materials. Vegetable oil is one of those. just like furniture is a group for tables, chairs, or desks.

    Congratulations you have just properly filtered your used cooking oil and can begin your bio-diesel home brew process? I thought the video was about the process they stopped just before starting not on how to properly filter used cooking oil, or did I miss something?

    • @bishop4077
      @bishop4077 4 года назад

      Totally agree that they missed steps. Technically what they show can be used when being added to sulfur diesel to power a vehicle even the newest high compression diesel's.

    • @eanfoso
      @eanfoso 9 лет назад +1

      no, diesel engines were designed to run on vegetable oils, as a matter of fact, when Diesel first showed his engine it was running on peanut oil, however if you have a recent vehicle (2008+) will have a DPF, if you have this I wouldn't use more of a B20 mix, unless you drive on the freeway a lot, but with Tijuana's traffic, I wouldn't recommend it if you have a new vehicle, but if you remove the DPF then you'll be able to run it on B100 (biodiesel 100%)

    For whom it may consign, this is not how to produce a biodiesel. This is just how to filter your vegetable oil off any impurities.
    To prepare a biodiesel, you need a catalyst and a whole lot of process and burning to make a perfect biodiesel that can run your cars and backUp generator.
