Hello friends! If you didn't notice, this is my outdoors channel Bjorn Outdoors. Consider subscribing! There will be only outdoors content here, like overnighters in the woods, gear reviews, how to videos etc.
I have a Gransfor Bruk forest axe. It keeps an edge for ages. These are hand made. The person who makes the axe has their initials stamped into the head of the axe. You get a booklet and can see the man or woman who made your axe. Quality counts
Greetings from Louisiana to my favorite bearded guy in the woods
This is the type quality content that drew me to your channel in 2019 😁
Thank you, Bjorn.
I have a rectangular sharpening stone, now I need a round one with beveled edges, thanks for the tip.
Go for it, my friend!
The Bjorn Bullhansen way.
Dont cut your finger tips. 😁
I like these videos as im starting to prep these are invaluable so please keep them coming. Many thanks.
Thanks, will do!
I like the "puck" for putting the final edge on my axes and hatchets. Much easier to use than my other stones.
Thanks for the video, and Merry Christmas, Bjorn!
it was -18 centagrade here in Canada this morning
@@johncheetham4607 thanks
This is timely. I just brought my kindling hatchet in for sharpening. Thank you for the refresher. Great video.
Learned how to sharpen an axe today! Cold, but no snow ❄️ yet, there in Norway.🌲
It's quite therapeutic too - I love sharpening my scythe. Different way of sharpening but the resulting sharpness is the same goal. Thank you.
Right on time Bjorn, i've ordered one of these pucks today, to sharpen my hatchet!
Thanks a lot! 🌲🔥
That's great!
That looks very similar to my Granfors Bruks survival axe, now called the outdoor axe I think. Nice axe whatever and you’ve inspired me to have a sharpening day tomorrow!
That's the same axe, yes.
That's the way it's done!💯👍👍
Yes, at least that seems to be how most people I know do it.
Tomorrow I'm going bushcraft and I just said to my friend I still have to sharpen my ax for tomorrow and now I see this new video from you. Thank you! 🙂
@YngviRotbart,
Relax. Yes, they are listening to your daily (nightly) conversations, but it's to help you. . . ☆
Thank you for this video, I just received my axe sharpener today.
Learn something new everyday.
And now my Little camp axe is wrapped nicely annd sharpened. 😊
Thank you 😊
THANDS, BJORN. Do take care. USA
Very useful video Bjorn, thanks very much.
And thank you!
Thanks for the information!
My carpal tunnel. I split wood with an ax or hatchet. I bought a hydraulic log splitter years ago for the house.
Verry useful information
Instead of a felt tip pen I just use the glint of sunlight off of my work surface and follow one line on the edge. You’ll see it when you start to file or sharpen.
Congratulations your smiting level just increased +1! Thanks Bjorn!
Thanks, I think? What does "smiting level" mean?
twas just a joke, in some videogames one get experience in skill, smithing, or crafting which is stuff like weaving baskets etc. and when you do something related to that skill you gain experience, and i got experience from watching you explaining how to sharpen an axe. i'll keep it a bit less geeky next timee sorry
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are welcome!
Wet ash from your fire pit, can replace the marking pen.
My larger axe I just used a metal file. Worked great! Just bought a new knife sharpening stone. Thanks for the smol axe sharpening tips. I'm rock knife wood splitting.
Thanks for the education Bjorn 🐻🙏
Great tutorial, Bjorn. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Timely! Many thanks
I sharpen my Hatchets and axes like you do😊 thanks.
Awesome. And good to see you again!
You're so calming, thank you
I just found your videos tonight, and I've watched about a dozen between you two channels. I am now subscribed to both channels, and i did leave a comment on the first one I watched about the lady critic. Peace be with you always.
Thank you so much! (I have four channels, though, but thank you for subscribing to these two.)
Thank you, Bjorn!
That was really interesting! I always wanted to know, how to sharpen a blade correctly (and haven't seen this before). Thank you for showing! You don't put a lot pressure on it, while doing these circular motions, don't you?
No, don't put much pressure on it, let the tools do the work.
@@BjornOutdoors Aha ok, thank you (yes, that makes sense)!
The art of melodic axe sharpening! Wonderful...and thank you for the recommending. 👍
Tusen takk
Need a puck now
There's a link to one right down there in the video description.
Nice one thank you yes that was very useful, cheers.
Thank you. I have that same type puck, they are really handy.
Thank you, Bjorn. This was a very useful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Just found it! Thank you
You pour water on it to make the whetstone become a wet stone.
Don't let that wet whetstone freeze. It will break.
Thank you it was very helpful
Thank you Bjorn❤ I've got a lot to catch up on since they don't notify me anymore.🙄
Thanks, but just to be sure, this is not my "main" channel, but Bjorn Outdoors. Have you subscribed to this one?
😎👍
Bjorn - axes are one of my hobby horses. I use that same puck for the reasons you describe. They're great! I own several from Sweden and an older Finnish collared axe. What I have not been able to find is a quality Norwegian axe. I know that there is Øyo, but I hear that they have them made in Slovenia. Do you have any vintage Norwegian axes?
Yes, we have some vintage one. One I restored, I found the axe head in the ground. But I don't know of any high quality manufacturers in Norway. And of course now, with the tax level, nobody will start up such a business here.
Helpful.
Glad to hear that.
GREAT VIDEO
Love this! ❤
Glad you liked it, Jen!
Bjorn can you please show me how to sharpen my bushcraft knife 😊
I have another video on sharpening Scandi grind knives, but I might do one showing the technique for the different grinds.
@ thanks Bjorn, I will have a look for it.
Thank you Björn! Nice Swedish(?) I presume axe? Greetings from the land of Fiskars axes
Yes, it's a Gränsfors. I love Fiskars, by the way, especially their saws.
SUBSCRIBE!!
Would it be better to add some oil, even cooking oil to the whet stone, to sharpen the blade?😊
I have always used water for these grindstones, but I will not claim that my way is the only way.
Bra kanal och bra videor👍
Takk!
Awesome
Can you show us Axe throwing techniques? Against a board target 🎯
I don't throw axes, actually. I don't think that was ever a thing, but I have thrown tomahawks. Great fun!
@ throw the Tomahawks episode? 🫡🎯
Isn't that the gränsforsbruk drystone which is supposed to not be used with water?
No, check out the link.
I just looked at the axe on Amazon , and fell off my chair when I noticed the price, here in the u.k. we are on the headline and would have to feed a family of four for the price of that axe
Yes, they have gotten expensive.
Lars outdoor axe?
Yes.
That looks more like a tomahawk or hatchet than an axe.
I agree. It could be called a hybrid, I guess. I really like it.
Grandfors?
Link in video description.
