You mentioned the password to fight a lot of enemies in the arena, but there's also a password to fight Minion and the 3 enemies on the Rooftops at the same time which is neat
I guess what I love most about Twisted Metal 1 over 2 was the level design's consistency. Even though they reused assets to make City Park, it felt like another piece of a huge puzzle. Every level felt like a piece of that puzzle and that's why it was so memorable. To me, nothing was wasted space.
It makes sense, because all the levels were supposed to be interconnected in one big map originally. David Jaffe said in an interview that they were playing a version of the game internally that had this big, open map for the longest time.
The rooftop levels music in this game still remains to be one of the best song in a final level in the series for me. I'd personally would love to see a remake of this game could benefit from it well.
To me, Cyburbia and City Park were my favorites. The Warehouse District really sets the tone for the rest of the game though so that deserves a good mention. So it's like, even though TM1 only had 6 levels, they were GREAT levels. Whereas, TM2 and beyond had some lame levels that were kinda subpar. I prefer quality over quantity.
What i love about the first Twisted Metal was that it feels more fast paced than the TM2( sure the second one may be an improvement due its design and balanced weapon but its gameplay feels slow and sluggish) and its has that darl atmosphere feel like TM Black. Heres my thoughts on the arenas of tm1: .Arena Duel: An iconic battleground since its like the battle that started it all, the obly thing i didnt like was it doesnt have a health recharged. . Warehouse District Warfare: A pretty cool battleground level, i love this one because it feels like it could also appear in Twisted Metal Black due to its grim atmosphere. Fun fact Warehouse, Freeway, Cyburbia and River Park were originally going to be one big level but due to the PsX's limitations it was cut into separated levels. .Freeway: One of my second favorite levels due to being like a racetrack, the only thing i dont about the freeway level is being a linear level and cpuld have more shortcuts and alternate paths. . River Park Rumble: An ok level but its like Warehouse except double size, this level would have been better it did have a bit more details. Especially the water lake. .Cyburbia: One of the best levels in the game due to its size and having 8 opponents. What i remember mostly about this level its the canals since i saw it in the 2 player versus when i was younge, it also has its own freeway section in which i found it cool. My third favorite level. . Rooftop Combat: The level with the best music but its design feels small, my complaint is that destroying the pyramid glass takes a while and it only has one health recharged. If the level would have been a big bigger it would have been awesome.
Iirc the lore for the arena level is that it's the preliminary match of the contest and whoever wins gets to be in the main competition. TMA actually has managed to take the warehouse level and river park levels from the TM1 PC port, stapled them together and sometimes uses it for matches in TM2PC LA Rooftops (or as TMA calls it, "Loofs") is literally my favorite Twisted Metal level in the entire series
Bonus bc I heard you talking about it on the rooftop level, you can actually make Minion kill himself on the lower difficulties. If you lure him to the rooftop that the crate falls on, and then make your way to the part of the main building with the glass pyramid and observe that other building, Minion will try and find you on the main building but doesn't carry enough speed to make the jump, so he falls to the ground. This doesn't instakill him, the game will warp him back to that rooftop. Even though it doesn't instakill him, the impact that happens *does* take a chuck out of his health, like he just smacked really hard into a wall. As long as you're in the same spot watching him, he'll keep doing that, and eventually will die
You can push Minion off the rooftops! He doesn't die though, he just loses a very little bit of health and is teleported somewhere back up on the rooftops :/
Freeway was my favourite map, all the fast cars, benefit form a hit and run play style... making it easy adn quick. Crimson Fury, wasn't in teh second one, :(. SPectre was great on this map. I don't remember it a loop though, I remember that there is a little town section you can fight in like the ware house, and a free way goes in and off... Jumble of roads... I htink in multiplayer - Cyberia was playable... with a code in multiplayer.. in fact all the maps were... rooftop is the best map in the game though, I played that amp so amny times and reverse entriy in the pyramid was a thing I did.
How old are you? I was 11 or 12 when Playstation came out and I bought Twisted Metal as my first game.. At the time, This game was mind blowing, we hadn't seen anything like this before.. You can't retroactively review these games, it doesn't work.. This was the first go at 3d on home consoles (for most people). And me and my friends couldn't get enough of Twisted Metal.. the maps felt huge and we loved them
Twisted Metal 1 is certainly a game that hasn’t aged as well as several of the others in the series and I really do think it’s because of the lackluster level design, honestly. I’m much more critical of the maps in these games than most, and my ratings are for map design across the whole series. None of the maps in TM 1 are that good compared to many of the greats that come later. For me (rated based on how fun they are to play): S (among the best in the series)- n/a A (great)- n/a B (good)- Assault on Cyburbia; Rooftops C (acceptable)- Warehouse District; City Park Trash - The Arena; Freeway
Cyburbia is iconic in the series and I love Twisted Metal's big maps, Freeway is equally good for hit-and-run or chase-em-down play styles (tight enough to corner opponents to ram to death with larger vehicles but open enough with long stretches of freeway to run away with smaller quicker vehicles), River Park is chaotic fun with six opponents filling out the streets but plenty of health stations to keep you alive, Rooftops is good but can be frustrating with only one health station and plenty of chances to fall to your death, Warehouse is River Park but smaller and less memorable, and Arena is fun for its 1v1 novelty but the rest of the tournament is up from there.

Decent list I pretty much agree! Seems like there are a few people who like TM1 better than 2.

these were the funnest games of my child hood by a mile

Actually I heard some TMA say combing the TM1 maps together made it too big to play on.
@@BigSlick98 I've... literally played with them a few years ago on combination River Park/Warehouse. It replaced Moscow in the game files.
@@ThrasherDBS Oh nice! They changed to Zion Park now which I’ve only played with them maybe once.
How do you choose levels to play in when playing single player or multiplayer not including tournament mode

Please make tier list of all twisted metal bosses
For me I'd say:
S - Cyburbia
A - Freeway, River Park
B - Rooftops, Warehouse
C - Arena
River Park Rumble is my fav and My S Tier. Freeway is my trash tier
