Love this video but it’s also not illegal for teachers to take your phone because of most if not all high schools and middle schools have parents sign forms allowing teachers to do that
@NightwingLopezLover My parents/guardians never signed anything like that at any of the four schools I went to, so while that might be your experience, I certainly wouldn't say "most if not all". Had a teacher in highschool that would give people a single warning, if they kept playing on their phone the teacher would keep teaching basically causing the kid to fail and force them to come to saturday school if they wanted to make up their grade, honestly it was the best way to teach them
Yeah unfortunately most of the teachers are the ones blamed for students who don't work, mostly because some students, no matter how much consequences they are given, will never listen in class.
All my teachers had that mentality. One started the year by saying, "i am paid to stand here and teach, i am not paid to make you pass. If you pass, or fail, i still get paid. Now, onto the first lesson of the year."
Well that’s their job to continue teaching. Some can multitask. Some don’t need to listen. Some can study on their own time. Failing the class seems more like a skill issue just cuz the teacher continued
All of my teachers always told us, do you need your phone in an emergency or you know there is an important phone call... tell me before and we will make it work!
Same! That's what I was told. Always tell the teachers prior for your use of phone in an urgent situation, because if you don't and they catch you with it and you try to tell them that, they'll think it's some "excuse" and will take it away!
There was this one teacher I had in junior college that didn’t care if NO ONE was paying attention. Half of the class was either sleeping or had headphones on, turned away from the white board to watch a movie on their laptop. He didn’t care because it didn’t affect him. He’s doing the lecture he gets paid for and it’s up to them whether they listen or not. The students are responsible for their education. I respected that move so much. A lot more affective than to interrupt the whole class because of one student on their phone. Edit: Goodness me, I did not think anyone would actually read this. I would like to point out that yes, I am aware that it is generally the case in college. Just the "junior" college that I went to in my country basically counts as a high school too (I don’t know how to explain it otherwise), so some/most teachers were still strict about the "no phone" rule. It was my first time seeing a teacher not get bothered by it which stood out to me. But yes, different rules apply for younger students, that is another story. I am honored that my comment got people talking and discussing, much appreciated!
But wouldn't it also distract the other students? And also society would blame him if even one student fails his class. They blame teachers for everything that a student does wrong.
College is a different story tho, adults have alot more freedom, and thus consequences, when it comes to education. Teenagers are still living with their parents and being raised to hopefully turn out well.
I hate that it’s teacher’s fault for literally anything. Why? It was the student’S decision, they literally decided not to pay attention and instead do something else. Just like how managers at work are blamed for everything, why blame someone that is literally trying to shape the future of the country?
My mom wouldnt answer the school because they were constantly calling her about something fucking stupid so if they tried to take my phone, i made this point. We werent allowed to use ours during LUNCH. It was stupid. Once they tried to take it and i refused, told them i needed it in case i needed to call my mom. They said if they needed to they would call her. I said "go ahead and try, she wont answer the school". Sure enough, they called her and she didnt pick up. I call her from my phone and put it on speaker. She picks up after one ring and says "What idiot from the school was trying to call me?" Edit: you are all so pressed lol. I'm 26 now and have a corporate job. I turned out FINE. My middle school had more rules than the high school and even more than my own college. I ended up using my phone after that to inform my mom we were on lock down for a BOMD THREAT because there was a LIVE GRENADE in our parking lot on campus. The school failed to call her and tell her. This wasn't discipline. This was control. But you guys can stay pressed I guess
When I was in high school, there was a rule that the cell phones had to be in the phone pocket. It was this thing that hung up at the front and just had little folds for all the phones. The teachers explained verbatim that they would rather the students have the phones on them and put away. However, if someone came in to check on the teacher, and there were no phones in there, only the teacher would be in trouble. A majority of the teachers were nice enough that students respected them to not want them to get into trouble. My mother had to go into emergency surgery and I went up to the teacher to explain that my mom was going to call me when she came out of surgery. Since I came to the teacher first, she was very understanding and allowed me to have my phone on me. When the call came, I took it and instead of bringing the phone back to my desk, I put it in the pocket. Communication and empathy make respect. If the teacher doesn’t have a good rapport with the students, then they will make sure the teacher has the most difficult time.
As someone who had multiple medical issues some teachers aren't understanding or safe to explain why you'll need your phone to, so instead it's better not to tell them. On top of that, when a teacher is being disrespectful how is it expected for the child to stay respectful? It's an unfair double standard

I wish I had. I once had a teacher berate and humiliate me in front of the entire class for not having my math homework. I'd never forgotten my homework before; so this wasn't a repeat offense, even if I had what she did was unacceptable. She not only yelled at me and drew everyone's attention to me, she also implied that I was incompetent and punished me. That one incident traumatized me so much that I still get anxiety if I forget something. For the rest of my school career I'd obsessively check for things I needed to turn in; even after seeing it in my folder or bag, I'd check multiple times to make sure it was still there. That incident happened in 5th grade.
Since everyone's saying people are molding and smashing them together from humiliation and shit, I'll tell you something about me which is the opposite:D So basically, I'm that type of person where if I get molded together, I splat back out:3 I only get stunned or get shy and suspicious around them for a while. The only ones that can mold me is my parent by force:(
Not to mention that I, as a teacher, operate under the authority of the state and that I, as the teacher, operate under the doctrine of in loco parentis. I also subsidize the child's education through my taxes. I put it to them this way: If you park your car illegally, it's going to be towed and impounded, and it's neither theft nor a violation of anyone's property rights. The same can legally be done with a phone that is disrupting a school classroom. I also remind them that, as minors, they have no property rights; they exercise all of their non-human rights through their parents.
@@preferanonymousyou’re wrong. It doesn’t matter if you’re a minor or not, you still have property rights and if a minor works and earns the money to buy the object themselves, it’s theirs. Nobody can take it from them. Children are people too.
@preferanonymous 1, children have property rights if they save and buy it themselves, 2, you're tax money that goes to education isn't your choice and everyone does it youre not special, 3, this situation she was texting her mom who was in surgery taking her phone makes you a dick, 4, most people who text in class have their phones silent so it only "disrupts" the class when someone says something about it. The other students aren't gonna get distracted by it bffr it's the teacher making a big deal that disrupts the class
Unlike personal belongings such as a phone, a classroom is a shared space provided by the school for educational purposes. While the teacher may not have personally paid for the classroom, it is part of their professional responsibility to maintain order and create a conducive learning environment within that space. Thus, the teacher's authority over the classroom stems from their role as an educator rather than ownership through payment.
Usually teachers do allow you tk text/call in class if you inform them in advance you'll need to. I did it a few times, they even let me leave the classroom. Also, usually if someone is a good student who listens in class and respects the teachers they would be more comfortable with giving them permission. Lastly, tone matters. If you speak in an irritated tone they'll view it as disrespect, while if you apologise and explain yourself calmly they'll let you do what you need to.
Tone doesn’t matter at all it’s honestly just teacher preference on who they like and will in turn allow them to do what they want… you know those kids that are allowed everything and patted on the back all the time
.....that isn't true at all, it depends 100% on the teacher and whether they like you or they are just having g a bad day. You can be the best student but if the teacher doesn't like you asking, isn't doing anything.
There have been a plethora of times where I spoke with the most respect that I could to teachers and they’d still go over me. Luckily my parents weren’t a fan of anyone else bullying their kid besides them and were 7/10 times on my side (more so as I grew up and understood respectfully standing up for myself without excusing disrespect from adults - no matter who they were). In other words you shouldn’t feel like to need to kiss a** and bow your head to be treated with respect, they can come at you respectfully if they want to set the tone (which they would know how to do if they were actually fit to teach small humans. And believe me a good handful of them are fit - and they’re the ones who we respectfully respond back to)
If it's really an emergency, just tell the teacher and leave. if you have time to argue with your teacher, it's not that much of an emergency after all😂
This literally happened to me. The teacher took everybody's phones except mine. I was the only one that refused. We had a similar argument and she hardly talked to me since 💀
I substitute teach and I once had a girl look up at me really nervous as her phone was ringing in her hand (on vibrate) and she looked REALLY upset so I just whispered, "Do you wanna answer it in the hall?" And she looked relieved and stepped out. I asked her friend if she knew what the call was so I knew how to proceed and she explained the child was having a family emergency and they were probably coming to get her when they could get someone away from it. I left a note for the teacher that shed had an emergency situation and that she might not finish the assignment left, but she was so relieved after the call she said shed finish it her free period and turn it in then. For this skit i dont think either one of these people, the kid or teacher, had an attitude conductive to cooperation, but its also a Skit so it really does not matter lol. I just make it a personal policy to never assume malice as a motive unless all other options have been ruled out
You would have hated me as a student 😅 always got good grades but was extremely stubborn and fought with my teachers all the time when they would get mad at something that was their fault. My favorite one as a kid was refusing to get punished alongside the whole class for being loud as I wasn’t loud myself. And just kept saying no again and again (while crying lol). I was 7. My second favorite was in high school in 10th grade when a teacher got so mad at us and called us donkeys, I just stood up and told the teacher, who was a biology teacher, that he made a mistake, we aren’t donkeys but human creatures (it sounds better in my mother tongue lol). I was a nightmare student but got away with it because I was always technically right and just standing up against a perceived injustice. I also was a very good student and had a chameleon like personality. I was extremely calm, polite and studious until stuff like this happen and the teachers were just too confused to really do much.
people are lucky that they have teacher who just ask for their phones, mine just snatches it out of my hands aggressively thinking that will suddenly help me when all my problems in class.
“You’ll see her when she comes out” a teacher said that to a friend of mine when she said she was late because her mom was going into surgery later that day and she wanted to get her I loves you’s in before school. Unfortunately her mom passed away in surgery and she didn’t get to see her after so sometimes that text in class or 30 minutes late can be detrimental for someone. It was certainly for my friend. I get if the phone is being overly disruptive and the student is on it the entire class but if it’s just shooting a quick text to a family member especially a parent it’s not that big of a deal.
As a teacher, I hate when teachers approach students this way. Like, if you wouldn't talk to a coworker like that, why would you address a student like that?
Students aren't coworker, they are there to learn. Also there are rules, standards and expectations. Student could have asked for permission but decided that the rules didn't apply to them. Employees also can be reprimanded or fired for using phones during work hours.
@@christinebaughman2952 They're talking about the tone and disrespect or harshness when approaching a student. It doesn't kill or mess with expectations to approach a student with kindness or respect

Fun fact: they can legally confiscate it, but not for long (the courts refer to the school handbook, which usually states either for a couple hours or up to a day). If you have an emergency, such as a medical one with the family, you should probably notify your teacher and immediately go to the office. If they deny your request for communication at that point, I’m sure legal action is appropriate. I’m not a lawyer though Edit: also, they can’t legally forcefully take your phone, but they can academically discipline you (detention or something like that)

Had a teacher in highschool that would give people a single warning, if they kept playing on their phone the teacher would keep teaching basically causing the kid to fail and force them to come to saturday school if they wanted to make up their grade, honestly it was the best way to teach them
Fuck around and find out
Yeah but I heard some teachers get paid by how many kids pass
@@Izlandprincess1 that point is they shouldn’t, and the fact that they didn’t have to actually made it easier for students that are actually learning.
You know what? You've got a point. LoL

I just can’t imagine the audacity - I’d never speak to a teacher like this as a kid and to think it’s ok

"Did you pay for it?"
"I paid for the education that put me here to teach you"
Not to mention that I, as a teacher, operate under the authority of the state and that I, as the teacher, operate under the doctrine of in loco parentis.

"It's my classroom"

Teacher : ( Speechless)

As soon as we get in the classroom we have to put our phones in a safe for the whole day until we return back to homeroom

Teacher here, this is why I say to ask for permission if they have an urgent need to text a family member or something. All they have to do is ask.
they've probably asked before and got a no
@@onedaybeccaThen they should respect that no. You can't just break rules because you feel like it
@cheyenneross758 if it's because that child wants to scroll on social media i understand, but if it's something important, especially with family, why tf not? im glad im not in school anymore that and other shit is stupid asf
@@onedaybecca Because teenagers ALWAYS say it was urgent. Even if it wasn't. They'll be scrolling on Tick tok and still use the hospital line

Exactly😊
Literally 😅😅
I gotta fight the whole urge to just say “dawg you started this whole thing??” Its so hard to do- 😢
Literally true.
"DID YOU PAY FOR IT?" Truer words have NEVER been spoken.
Orrr just follow rules
That doesn’t fly anymore read the policy at the beginning of the year they have the right to confiscate
This reminds me of one time during the pacer a girl finished with the score of 14 (In grade 6) and she had really bad asthma and the PE teacher wouldn’t let her get her inhaler from the health room cause she didn’t “Look like” she needed too. She really just then was told to get some water and walked from the gym to the office, said to the councilor what happened (she was the first one she saw) and headed to the health room to get her inhaler. Safely to say the gym teach was fired and my house (my group of 4 classes we had in grade 6) had a secret party during recess cause nobody liked the PE teach that did that
I remember i was running a lap and i started having an asthma attack, i asked to go get my inhaler in the gym, but my teacher just told me to put my hands against the back of my neck... i only just now realized how idiotic and irresponsible that was...
And then everybody clapped

“Four of Henry’s six wife’s” damn💀
Great job! I liked that skit and the mention of Henry’s wives.
I’m not a lawyer though
Edit: also, they can’t legally forcefully take your phone, but they can academically discipline you (detention or something like that)
The ruling I found stated thats only for private schools not public
The teacher could also fail the student for the day if the student refuses

@@lyonidus3073I don’t think the principal paid for it either
@@thatoneguy611 I know but I said principal because it’s very close to chairman and it’s more common for a principal substitute than a chairman
But the classrooms are assigned to teacher so it does belong to the teacher until they leave or ate reassigned to a different room
Teacher: "You'll see her when she comes out!"
Her: "It's open-heart surgery, with a 78% mortality rate."

Her: “No.”
Then you shouldn't even be at school. It does not excuse using the phone. You should be at the hospital instead.

Honestly the amount of times my mom text or calls me during school hours was insane. I’d always just show them, hey it’s my mom she gets very nervous if I don’t answer.
respectfully communicating makes all the difference, ya know?
Parents shouldn't talk to their kids while they're in class.
one time both my dad and my brother kept repeatedly calling me and i’d have to click my power button to hang up without pulling my phone out and they kept calling so i went to the hall to see what it was and they were just telling me they were picking me up like okay just wait until im allowed to be on my phone again and i will see the texts no need to call😭😭
@@pickles7168 xD that’s okay. i got in trouble bc i was borrowing my mom’s phone one day, and my brother kept calling, trying to reach my mom. xD and i couldn’t figure out how to silence the damn thing (this was back in the early days of cell phones). lol. silly silly…
