    Thank you so much! I spent ages trying to figure out how to do this! I thought it would be as easy as just putting a text form field in the header but nope, can’t do that. Or I couldn’t figure it out. Such a helpful video!

    I have been trying to use this function however it pulls my heading through into the header even though it is not selected in the "fillable form" part of the Style Ref - can you explain how I might remove this part? for example I use the heading "Licence number: " and then I have a fillable form field after this, and it is the information entered that I want to populate in the header, but it is pulling the heading "Licence Number" through also and I cant work out how to remove it

      I'm trying to fix this at the moment, but I can't figure out what I need to do to not pull in the Heading either. Were you able to figure it out? I'm also having the same issue everybody else is in the comments section with only being able to see the fillable content outside of the Restricted Editing option.

    Any idea how to do this on a mac, please? Doing the nearest mac equivalent consistently generates an error message when you insert the field in the header. Thank you!

    Hi Sharon, thank you for all your videos that bring my Word and Excel game to the next level!
    I have a question though. I created a form with the content control method and managed to create a field in the header that automatically populates using this video. However it populates only when I stop the protection . Could you tell me how to make it populate without having to switch the protection on and off? Many thanks !!

      Hi Denitsa - try hitting Ctrl+A to select the entire document, then right-click and select Update Fields. I'm not sure if that will work, but worth a try. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    your videos are great and have been extremely helpful for my work project. is there anyway you can do a video on how to create a conditional legacy form field text box appear depending on a drop down extension? For example, I want a situation where if the employee selects "NO" from a drop down that there will be no additional form fields for them to complete, but if they select "YES" a new form field appears below prompting the employee to input a reason for clicking "yes" in the new text field.
    For example:
    Did you complete the assignment after the 1st? [DROPDOWN] (Yes/No)
    If YES?
    Appears>. Why? [Text Box form field]
    If no?
    Nothing

    For formatting to work, "Restrict Editing..." must be unchecked when protecting the document. I wondered why it's not working for me.

    Great information!! I am however, having an issue. i have 4 form fields that I added to my header. When I am testing the form and filling out the first field with my name, the name appears on the same line as the "styleref" title. same for my second line. however, when I get to my third line, which consists of a date, the month and date align with the styleref title but the year moves unto the next line underneath the title. not sure how to fix this. a second problem that I am having is there is too much space between the title and the words that are transferred from the form field. exp.
    Investigator/Trainee: (SPACING) first name and last name
    Date of Investigation: (SPACING) Jan 20,
    2023 (year moves downward).
    Can you please advise as to how I can fix these two problems?

    This is great! I have tried on a 2 -pages form, but it only worked automatically on one of the page as footnotes, and only get updated once I unprotect the form. Do you know where might be the problem and how to fix it? Thanks a ton!

    This looks like something that only works with Word on a PC. The Mac version of word seems very limited in the dev eloper tools. Any ideas to make a simple form on a Mac that people can fill in with Word, or maybe a PDF document without buying anything too expensive?

    Hi Sharon, do you happen to have a video on how to tidy up your styles in your styles in the style drop down box? Say if I click on "in use" but want to add Body Text for example, it says, it's already a built in style. Your styles always look neat and tidy if you know what I mean.

    Hello Sharon, first thank you for all your helpful videos.. I am creating some documents with auto-populate fields. My question is some of them automatically have the field with the gray shading. But others are not shading at all. I would like to know why some come with and others not. I would prefer the gray shading on all of them. If you can help me with this it would be great!

    This helped me solve one of three hurdles I'm facing in turning a template that our organization uses into a fillable form which will streamline some processes for us. The only thing is...I only got it to kind of work. I can get the styleref to work but it keeps pulling "Name:" into the header as well. Any idea where I am going wrong?

    How would you create a header where a writer/user can fill in multiple fields within the same row (e.g. name, oganization, page number) without shifting the other words/information on that same row? And you would apply this rule only to the header.
    So, e.g., on the 1st row of the header there are fields: name, organization & page number and you want the user to be able to fill these fields without shifting the fields/words that follow on the same row?

    Can styleref "balloontext" be changed on different pages throughout doc? Pages 1-3 Balloontext read: 1: Orientation, pages 4-7 read: 2: Phone Support, pages 8-11 read: 3: Counter support, etc. So we have more than one styleref referenced in a document header with at least 7 different stylerefs and sections of document.

    Thank you. I have been knocking my head on a wall trying to figure this out. Just a question, do I need to “protect” the form/letter? What if all that is fillable is the name, address and subject of a letter? Can I just use F11 to go from field to field?

    I have a drop down menu at the top of my form that you select an address from. I would then like to auto duplicate which address was selected into the header of the second page. The same goes for the date selection. How can I achieve this?

    I've been copying and pasting excel charts into a word document which look fine, however when I send the word document via email some of the charts don't look the same as in the original word document e.g. bars in the chart have changed to all the same colour instead of the varying colours and therefore no legend appears. Similar charts look fine however, so just wondering what I've done wrong. Know this isn't an excel video but would appreciate any advice.

      Hi Lorna! Have you tried different "paste as" options in Word? For example, when you copy the chart from Excel and then go into Word, right-click and use one of the last two past options like "Keep source formatting and link data" or "Picture" and test that to see if it retains the colors when you email the document.     My entire document is not a form. There are only some form fields, so I don't want to restrict editing to just forms. Without restricting, the header isn't auto-populating for me. It will populate if I update field codes, but I don't want my users to have to do that. Any advice?

      Hi Dawn! Have you tried locking only part of your document?     P.S. Is it really necessary to put a name in the Bookmark? You are anyway creating a new style "EEName" which you then use in the quick paths. I am just questioning this additional step of giving the text field a bookmark.

    I did exactly as you advise, but the header will not update while the document is in protected mode. I'm entering a file number, like 20.15151, in the REF section of the document, but it will not show up while the doc is protected. Any solution?

    When I do this, the style ref doesn’t automatically change in the header after I restrict editing to filling in forms. It only updates after I unprotect the document. What am I doing wrong?

    Is it possible to add a table where I ask the user to enter the number fe. of customers they had and then it autofills the maximum number of allowed complaints, maximum number of returns etc. And then they can enter the actual number.
    So basically an dependable autofills🙈 thanks anyway
