As someone who saw it live 25 years ago, it's interesting how pretty close and accurate the last era is to today, the technology they talked about in the future, a lot are used today
@@grandmablobby Bad news on next year is: Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress was permanently closed for good. But good news is: A new ride is: Wilbur Robinson's Future Tour.
Thanks, now we have the video in case Disney ever discontinues the Carousel Of Progress. I hope Disney simply continues to update it though, cuz the future ain’t what it used to be and needs updating!
This is by far my favorite ride in all of WDW; that's right, I said it. With all the talk of progress, and looking to the future, I always get so excited; not to mention the song is incredibly catchy. I hope it stays active in Tomorrowland forever, especially since Walt had a big hand in making the COP. One day, when I can get through my sever anxiety, I hope to go to the park and watch the show in person again.
I feel like I’m one of the only 19 year olds that loved this attraction. I remember being a small child and always going on this with my family on vacations
I don't know why, but I just teared up just now. I am so happy to hear about the new costumes in the final scene. I've wanted an update for years -- a complete overhaul, new animatronics and everything, tbh -- but at least it's start in that direction. Or, shall we say? Progress? *boom boom tiss* 😝
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress was closing permanently and it replaces Meet the Robinsons ride. The ride is based on 2007 animated film called, "Meet the Robinsons."
This ride was awesome. I and my family went on this in January and it was so funny it wouldn't turn after the scene was done so we had to keep watching the same scene over and over. I still have the song stuck in my head.
I was recently in the parks myself, and this is the one attraction that had a very low wait time. Doesn't seem like a popular attraction, but i guess not having to do another game of "line waiting simuator" is a good thing,
Did anyone noticed that when it went from the 2nd scene to the 3rd scene... that one of the lights above him was burned out in the 2nd scene!!! I have never been on the Carousel of Progress, but after watching a few clips from it... it looks fun and maybe someday I will go on it!!!
although i'm a fan of the carousel of progress i grew up with at disneyland, the disney world version is slowly growing on me. at first the changes in the main characters voice, and some of the dialogue were totally annoying, now they're reasonably tolerable. it only took 45 years or so. i just wish we had a video record of the original as good as this one. great job!
It had a few tweaks and a song change since originally installed in florida but overall it's basically the same. Rumors been it's getting close to another tweak happening
I’ve never been on this ride before. When we went in June or July of 2020, we didn’t get to get on it. But maybe when we go back, which it may be a long time we might go on it.
I know this isn't a major attraction but I don't get why they don't "retrodate" the last scene to a decade that won't be outdated. Maybe the 70's? Anything would be better that what it currently is.
That never reappears? It's a mystery. I never saw the original version from the world's fair in the 60s so I assume she was more prominent in that version. It's had a couple scenes changed over the years
I don't remember what the original 4th scene was so maybe but there was moon landing elsewhere in tomorrowland briefly and spaceship earth still has a scene with it.
Carousel of progress today: everyone is wearing a mask with the doors boarded up with a mountain of tp sitting in the corner and all of the family is in there own rooms eating very unhealthy food each one having a mask under there chins watching streaming shows on there computers each one mumbling the "its a great beautiful tomorrow. "rover is dead in case your wondering, the family put him down after learning from some fake news site that pets can get corona
If they were to make a 2nd carousel of progress and make the last scene of this carousel the 1960s, and then start the 2nd one out on the 1980s and up 20 years per individual spot like they do with this, that might be a good point for the 2020 one.
For a show about progress, it seems rather out of date. I am admittedly not very knowledgeable on this particular attraction, so I do not claim my thoughts to be objective truth. The jump from the 40's to the "future" was rather jarring; as an updated attraction I expected there to be a smaller time gap between past and future. The "future" was also more akin to present day than I had expected, since VR and voice recognition are already well established technologies. Based on other comments I assume this is because the storytelling has not been majorly altered in a long time. My impression of Walt Disney, from what I have heard, is that he strongly believed that Disneyland should change and adapt to provide magic for new generations. I find it a bit ironic that an attraction that was meant to show the wonders of progress, feels stuck in the past. The Carousel of Progress was and is wonderfully designed and executed, and it clearly holds a lot of nostalgia and joy for a lot of people. I don't mean to discredit that, I very much enjoy it as well. I just felt like sharing my thoughts. :) Feel free to add your thoughts, or correct me if you see fit; and to the poster(s) of this video, wonderful quality, thank you.
Most feel the same. The history of the ride is this is the exact ride at the NY worlds fair back in the 60s. It was ge sponsored to show appliances over time. Minor refurb when he stopped sponsoring. There's always rumors of minor update replacement if last scene. I think this might just fall into the touched by Walt nostalgia event though.
Well considering that the show building is on a carousel with only 4 show locations, it's difficult to show the progress of what now amounts to 120 years. Back when the show opened in 1967, it was only showing about 60-80 years worth of progress which made sense, first the 1900s, then the 1920s, then the 1940s. Since the 1960s were the present at the time, the finale showed what progress was expected to accomplish in the 1980s and showcased what was called Progress City at the end of the attraction. The end scene was updated in 2000 with what we see today, so yeah, it's a jump of about 60 years. In a perfect world they would add more show scenes to reflect the progress of the 80s and 2000s, the rise of the Internet, Cell phones and such. But alas, it is what it is.
The thing is, Walt had the show designed in 20 year gaps. Starting at the turn of the century, then the 20s, then the 40s. The show aired in the 60s so it would’ve made no sense for the future to depict the 60s. Walt had to go even further up for the “future”. Which for the 60s depicted pretty much A culmination of the 80s and 90s and early 2000s. The ride is stuck in the past and that sense, but part of what gives the ride a soul is the nostalgia of it. To change the storylines and upgrade it too much would be to take away from what it is/was.
@@YourUltimateFlorida as much as I love to see some things get updated…that is a question I hope is never answered. Some things are better left classic. But it is interesting to theorize on.
No matter how old I get I will always love this attraction.
Same here

Yeah, we do have HD TV, VR, and there a couple things that are voice activated.

Those animatronics are so damn realistic I legit started to think they’re people. Especially Trish lol
May this live on for generations to come, this and Space mountain and Spaceship Earth.
Love it ..great big beautiful tomorrow starting at the end of every day

Everytime I go to Disney this is one of the must rides. Sadly it may be a long time before I can return to Disney due to how expensive it has become.

It’s actually pretty accurate on how they thought the future would be lol
so this is what ralphie has been to (get it cuz the voice of john is also adult ralphie in christmas story)
Universal should do a “ Back To The Future” carousel of progress but with moving seats for the transitions simulating time travel.

Desperately needs a refurb. Hydraulics in the animatronics are very sloppy.
I love the idea of Disney obsessives that visit the park everyday, sitting in some corner of the theater in solemn respect.
