And who isn't? I think they have a mutual admiration relationship. In my own personal, correct opinion Clapton and Knopfler are the two greatest living guitarists.
I love the friendship between Eric and Mark just as much as I love seeing them play together. Two legends with a huge mutual admiration of each other talents. 🇬🇧❤🇬🇧
One of the beautiful things about these two great, great, musicians playing together is how much they enjoy it. They seem like brothers: brothers who really love each other.
This particular live version just blows away the studio version of Badge; I walk down the street in in Boston singing "Where is my Badge" from this one-Can't thank you enough for sharing this-and I've seen them both live since the mid '70's!
@@pabloperez4063 I love Clapton and Mark K but them together does not work. They have two different styles that don't work together. It is like oil and water. It is like Mark is playing a Dire Straits version while Eric is trying to play the Eric version. I literally cringe when I hear them play together. Maybe non guitarists like this version as I am reading a lot of people saying they love it. Maybe they can't hear a song like someone that actually plays. Eric should have fired Mark before they toured. LOL.
I first heard them play this together at the Royal Albert Hall, around the same time as this recording. Absolutely blew me away - along with the ENTIRE audience!. First MK played the George Harrison part (as in this version) whilst Clapton recreated his own solo .......... then the BONUS !! EC plays the Harrison part and Mark picks up the second solo! OMG - you could feel the entire Albert Hall LIFT! Just stunning - and it seemed to go on for AGES!! One of the greatest musical experiences of my life. Some American guy behind me - with tears absolutely streaming down his face - tapped me on the shoulder and asked "What the hell was that song?" The applause just went on FOR EVER ! [Superb line-up with Nathan East, Greg Fillinganes, Ray Cooper and others behind Eric & Mark. Such a huge pity there doesn't seem to be a recording of that particular night!!]
Well he actually was part of the writing process, and played rhythm guitar on the original recording (credited as "L'Angelo Misterioso"). So it's much more than just influence, my friend :)
@@PiagaBiblica89 Thanks, yes I know that he cowrote it that is why I said you could hear his influence on it. Ringo also joined in and wrote a line in for the song as well.
STRATMAN firdaus Personaly I think Clapton's solo here was much better, Knopfler seemed to just throw in some of his licks and mash them up in a solo with no structure. This was not his best year for sure.
Always come back to listen this again, and it's always a surprise, MK did a outstanding solo, and if you try to listen carefuly he also did a incredible guitar rythim while EC solo, but his guitar volume it is too low to get all his rythimic riffs.
You can see Eric Clapton is totally mesmerized by MK's solo and playing. Unbelievable stuff.

En los últimos años no se los vió más juntos..sabes porque será?
It's already been 36 years. Oh my gosh. How quickly time passes.
Knopfler's solo is stuck in my head all day every day!

Creepy comment dude 😢
Incredible fills by Guitar God Mark Knoplfer. His touch and feel are unmatched, pure class.
He was running out of frets.
Yes, you’re absolutely right. MK does magic small things.

Trish F Clapton is really a live player.
A matter of taste. I have never ever heard a version that I like as much as the 68 one.

That 5 over 4 lick at 6:10 is absolutely amazing.
I always think of George Harrison when I hear this song. His influence is so strong on this song.

@N Well, he helped write it for Cream's last album.
The Lesley speaker run was written by George so I can understand what you're saying
That incredible bridge played by George Harrison can’t be duplicated by another.
What a solo by Mark - my jaw dropped.

I don't know what you were listening to
@@tonjametanoia wtf are you talking about
Mine too. Clapton just enjoying it with no ego at all and very similar riffs used by Clapton during his career. Fine work
@@tonjametanoiamostly Claptons licks from all his versions of his live shows of this song
although we've had such great bands in the 90s nothing compares to this
Mark is really a best guitar play. Always!
Fabulous vocals: relaxed, strong and authentic.
Great song, Great musicians! that's what it's all about!
Small moments like this would be enough to make life worth!
saw them in pittsburgh. wow almost 30yrs ago. appreciated eric, but was there for mark.
There he is- I was waiting the whole song for to join in, and he came in like a freight train- unstoppable
I was referring of course to Mark Knopfler. Forgive me, his solo was so powerful,I forgot how to speak
Knopfler solo is amazing
@runtmc3 : Absolutely outstanding from the Sultan of Swing. Thanks for sharing man !
Mark GODfler
yes!!!!!
MK is the best.
The Guitar God and the Sultan of Swing
Indeed!
Duas lendas vivas da guitarra...Inspiração total..
Knophler just glides. Great guitarist
A couple of Masters doing what they love. Isn't this great?
That moment where you notice this was an 8:00 performance and felt like 2:00

Yes I agree. There were a lot of riffs there that Eric has used over the years. The Rainbow Concert solo was outstanding
Spettacolare...
Unique.

just figured out knoflers secret....he plays guitar like hes playing a banjo.
Mark Knopfler did an amazing rythm along ec solo, but I think his volume should be higher, I barely can hear his rythm riffs while EC does solo.
He made this great song sound like the Sultan of Swing, get lost

Wow, 2 of the greatest rock guitars on the planet playing a huge icon song in a totally washed out uninspired ho hum
Traducción al español
Funny, but the best ever solo of Mark knopfler is not in D. S. - - - (my humble and personal opinion)
God slow. It. Down
Sounds nothing like the original
Terrible version of creams original song bage
