Catching a Swarm with a Russian Scion kind of.... The Scion works.

Just happened to be in the bee yard when a swarm left the hive. This one is a virgin so I will be going into the one it came out of after the catch. I have this attempt at a Russian Scion in the bee yard but why would i want to shake a swarm into a box when i can throw an old brood frame and then catch the queen and cage her. This is the SIMPLEST way i know to catch a swarm when it in the air. it works 100% of the time.

Thats the best way to get them i reckon! They settle on frame and in the hive they go

Them ladies are extremely fast an slippery 😎 I hung a swarm trap an went back 2 weeks later an had "2" swarms. 1 in the trap an another building under the plywood supporting the swarm trap. The ones in the trap were not bad but the ones that built outside? Dammmmm they were sassy ! Never have I seen two that close before .but I got her an cut the comb an rubber band it in a nuke box an they are fast growing out of it .

i have a video of 4 traps all within 20 yards of each other and 2 were taken and the other 2 had scouts going in and out. i have a friend that this year has caught 9 swarms on the same tree. best ive done is 5 but its 20 miles away so i only check it every 2 to 3 weeks he checks his every week thats why he has trapped over 60 this year in the mountains

they work the secret is to keep the wax lemongrass or swarm commander refreshed every 7 to 10 days being in the sun it degrades quickly.

I made a Scion 3 years ago and after many swarms none went to the scion!!

this one has caught 2 this year and that one made 3. the first 2 were on the scion not the frame i threw on it.
