- With sheep, everyday is a school day!
In this one I discover a parasite affecting my sheep discovered from an unplanned dung sample!
The parasite is rumen fluke or sometimes known as stomach fluke which will cause dirty back ends. The wet summer has had its part to play.
The weaned sheep also feature with an update on how that has gone.
The junior staff team is in operation today with my three little nephews helping out

How great are those lads!
Best boys 👍
It's hard to beat the help and you have plenty of it. Great info as always
Great boys. Tricky job on your own!
Yep a UK vet told us that years ago that you might aswell not dose with a mineral drench if treating for Fluke or Worms as the absorption rate is so because the sheep can as you said become loose they suggest keeping the treatments afew days apart using the wormer or fluke first !
On my mineral drench it says if dosing when worming dose mineral drench 1st. Who knows whats best ?
Thanks Cormac...👍
Farmers never give up! Great statement from Donnchadh
He's some man and dead right!
Fair play to you Uncle Davie, the boys were a good help, keen as mustard great to see,
Thanks George. They are great boys...👌
Great video David where would you be without the boy’s brilliant 💪👌
Thanks Gary. A little bit of help is worth a lot of pity 😀
Well done boys! Handy and handsome lads 😊👍👍
Thank you Linda..👌
Great to see the kids working and enjoying themselves, great help
Thanks. Great kids 👍
Great to see the boys making themselves useful, it certainly made your job easier. Perhaps they advise against dosing the cobalt separately as the wormer may inhibit the uptake, but that is just a guess.
Finding your content most informative. I did a course on disease in sheep. Egg fecal count works best if poop sample taken directly from "source". Not from ground as at that stage eggs already hatched. Would be interested to get your input on this as well please
Think it needs to be pretty fresh to be accurate so I walk around after sheep usually in shed and gather sample soon as it hits the ground..
Thank you David. I am in South Africa. Doing all my "home work" in respect of starting my own little sheep farm. Your videos are immensely informative. Be blessed
Nice video
Great Job to all you boys! Beautiful sheep 😊 love your channel, instant subscribe 😊
Thank you and welcome to our channel!
Nice fecal! Shows good management. In the USA we now have horses with tapeworms because we've conquered the rest. So I looked to see if you tested for that. Yup! And negative. 👏
Is it only when you are fluke dosing that you don’t mineral dose or dose that mean worm dosing as well. Another great video. Thank you
Thank you 👌
Great vid lots of info ya heard that about double dose alright but I still see alot of RUclips farmers still doing it if I have sheep in they getting what there going to get nice hoggets they the ones u had in roscommon
Thank you 👍 I double dosed the ewe lambs with cydectin and mineral drench same day and it definitely cleared up the scabby ears so I'm not sure it's a total waste...
Fantastic stock you must be feeding them blackberries cerently showing on Donnacha 😂
Well done lads, another great video. 🤙
Thanks 👍
Well done lads 💪💪 make sure he pays you well 😉😉
Great lads, worth their weight in gold!
Good help is hard to find. They did a great job
Best boys😀
Hi enjoy watching your videos. Where did you get the drench backpack from? Cheers
Thank you..👌 It's an Eprinex one I got from drug supplier with a big order of fluke doses.
Could be an idea to design your own dosing back pack and selling seams to be a lot of interest in one
Thanks Patrick. Great idea 😀👍
Ya should have dosed the 3 lambs as well ;)
Kids make it fun on the farm don't they the neighbour brought over her grandchildren to feed the chickens today I let them get an egg each from the nests for their lunch, I am told all eggs got home unbroken :) Funny because their gran gets all her eggs from me so they have eaten them all their lives but special I guess to get your own egg warm from the chicken.
Great channel. Where did you get the backpack and the belt
Great video as always keep up the great work and videos it's always good to have help mind yourself
Thanks John 👍
Great video we would just dose with levafas diamond at this time of year and use lock buckets never seen a sheep farmer with as much good staff as yourself there must be great profit in these lleyn sheep to pay them all 🙂
Thanks Paul, good job the staff team are easy shod😁 What lick buckets do you use?
@@sheepschool365 it's called supalyx supatup plus fish oil supposed to be the equivalent of a candlelit romantic meal for two🤣
Hypothetically, if you inherited someone else's working dog, would you be able to use that dog? Would you have to retrain it?
I inherited a really old dog called Floss that was so old she was starting to lose her teeth.. After about 1 month of feeding and looking after her I was her new master and she happily worked for me for about 2 years until unfortunately she became too old! She was a lovely dog that definitely helped me train my current dog, Pops...
Very good 👍 great lads to help
Good to learn about drench and mineral, not sure if its a waste or not , i found lambs ear to clean off after double dosing . Along with the race, do you have a turnover crate ? Or do you find the need for one ?
I also found my ewe lamb's scabby ears definitely cleared up after double dosing. I would guess better in the lambs than sitting in the bottle. No turnover crate as I never pare feet. Thankfully don't have foot problems, one major benefit to Lleyn sheep..
Thems some athletic hoggets you've got there!
Well done boys, you'll spoil your tea eating all them blackberries Oisin!
They can be flighty alright! The boys worked up a great appetite ☺
Where can you get the twin dosing backpack
I got it from my drug supplier along with a big order of fluke doses. Asked them if they had any more but unfortunately they don't. I'm starting to see an opening.....👌
What's the best dose for fluke and worms
It's hard to says which is best but I think the best practice is to alternate between the different types of wormers and flukicides. Using the same product consecutively leads to resistance fairly quickly. Might mention it in a video soon...
Whats name that dose you were using must try it
Where did you buy the back pack for the drench bottles
What height is the race sides? I have one and it 900 high and find it hard to dose from the outside
Hello,
I've got the same dose off the vet after a positive rumen egg count. My vet just said 4.5ml per 10kg. Never mentioned 20ml max. It would be 24+ ml if I went on body weight. Seems a lot. Did your vet say 20ml max dosage?
Zanil states 20ml maximum for 45kg and over but yet Levafas Diamond containing almost twice the Oxyclozanide is recommended at 2.5ml per 10kg with no maximum weight.
@@sheepschool365 Thanks for getting back to me. I have the same product as yourself I think. Ruminal? Did you ever egg count afterwards?
Didn't test afterwards but my hoggets definitely cleaned up after the dose..
@@sheepschool365 That's good enough for me. I'll stick to 20ml. Thanks very much for that. Every day's a school day!
You could make yourself a topper...plenty of steel in your shead.😂
Could buy a fixer-upper. That would test the workshop skills 😁
Where did the analysis on the sample? V detailed results.
It was the Regional Veterinary Laboratory in Athlone. Have been using Farm Lab diagnostics which is less detailed.
