Some songs will live forever even some by groups who had only 1 or a couple of hits. The Rubettes had a few but this song is unforgettable even 40 years later, great song.
I was 14 in 74, every thursday watched totp without fail it was the highlight of the week and even these days every wedding you go to as soon as the dj puts on the 70s everybody is on the dance floor great times and a great era.
Alan Williams (the singer) was the first man I fell in love with. I was 7 years old when the band performed in the Netherlands at a game show my sister and I took part in. Couldn't sleep for 6 weeks.
mince le coup de vieux ..j'avais 11 ans lorsque cette chanson est sortie dans les charts ..que de souvenirs de ma jeunesse qui s'est envolée pour toujours
this is one of my mums fave songs reminds me of being little girl dancing round the house and family parties so envious I wasn't born back then looked fantastic times
I can't believe the fact people keep going on about the lead vocal on this song. 30 plus years on Alan Williams is still gigging, singing and playing guitar at 63!!! Yes 63. Well done Alan and all the guys I say, I hope I'm still hitting them notes in 10 years time.
Remember this song from when I was 9 years old watching them on Top of the pops...that falsetto voice, the silly white bonnets..Amazing how much the teddy boy rock n' roll era of the 50's influenced some of those 70's bands like the Rubettes, Showaddywaddy, Mud etc.
This version has the Alan Williams voice. I don't know if it ever was released as a single but the original single release has the voice of Paul Da Vinci. I love this version as much as the original.
lol at 11 years old at the time I liked this and the lead guy. Followed liking this stuff and moved on to disco, new romantics, got into heavy rock at some point and now at the ripe old age of 52 love death and black metal funny how things turn out really
rubettes : thank you !! i was your greatest belgian fan ! this song, juke box jive, i can do it (my favourite !!), foo-dee-oh -dee, you're the reason why, etc live these songs & keep the for ever in my heart asa souvenir of my childhood !
What a top collection. I was between about 8 and 15 when all these came out and trust me life was a lot simpler, more fun and less stressful. These are all 70s songs, not 80s. Nice one.
@Rubettesmania Hello Rubettesmania, thanks for the translation. I am sure Japanese people must be happy for you. Maybe one day the band will go to Japan or how about arranging a trip for them at a gig in France or anywhere else. Love, Altos!
Great song from a fantastic era! Was 16years old in 1974 such carefree days before political correctness and the shite music of today, give me mud, sweet, T rex, pilot anytime.
I loved this group back in my teenage days and confess I still have the album, which came with a cardboard hat, but then again I still have all my albums and singles from my youth. I have a deck to play them on but doesn't go with anything so no good but what the heck its all part of my past the good old days! :-)
I was ten and I learned to love the English language, no phone, no internet nothing just the TV and the radio but great times; life was valuable
i loved the 70s growing up as a teenager, brings back so many happy memories, im now 60 and wish i could turn the clock back.
