That was an excellent sentiment "you should never meet your heroes" and its gotten me thinking. I've been lucky enough to own just about every car I've ever wanted to own, but the experience has been much the same for each one. I can't wait to get in it and drive it after having really wanted it or having aspired to own one for so long, but then after a few months, sometimes days, it becomes just another car. Experience has taught me that is pretty much the case with everything and that is the way the world rolls. There is no real joy in lusting after material items.
It's always nice to bring a smile on people's face when you drive it. I'm really happy to own one, this is an amazing car. Prodrive has done a stunning work.
I had a Prodrive WRX STI 330S, such a perfect car for British B Roads, such a great 4wd system and having the 3 different Engine maps on a dial was a great gadget at the time!
I've been lucky enough to drive P1and an RB5. I did many miles in the RB5. For me, the RB5 just felt a little more composed when really pressing on. Not tried a 22B. For me the RB5 is the ultimate Q car for fun.
That P1 owner is the right person to own that car. Daily drive it, still enioys it despite the value. I own a V5 STi RA, bought in 2006 when i was living in Japan and still regularly drive it today at 120,000 miles,; they are an absolute blast to drive. One correctio though - all GC8 cars (except the type RA/R) from V III/D onwards had ABS. It was only deleted for DCCD ewuipped cars after that.
I have a WRX coupe in Rally Blue. First time I took my wife out for a drive on the freeway, the driver of a BMW nearly leapt out his window to wave and take pictures. My wife turns to me and says, “This really is a special car, isn’t it?” I could only smile and laugh.
P1 was far from the best impreza, most engines went bang after 40k miles, it was based on a JDM Version 4 STi Type R, but the added ABS, and made it softer for the UK roads, personally it was probably the 2nd best UK impreza behind the 22B, but pretty much every JDM Impreza STI from that era was head and shoulders above anything the UK had to offer at the time.
I've both a P1 and V4 V-limited Type R. I get a lot of hate on owners clubs for saying the P1 handles better. V4 has had several engine rebuilds and the P1 has had a complete underside resto before it turned to dust
You might be confused by the fact that the 22B is based on the version 4. In terms of colour and interior the P1 is similar to the version 4 type r limited (Blue coupe with no roof scoop and momo wheel. However I’m certain the P1 is a modified version 5-6. It has the EJ207 (V4 has an EJ20K), version 5-6 front bumper, version 5-6 styled big wing. It’s also the same model year as the version 6.
No dccd gearbox, so no not the best impreza. P1 understeers thanks to its uk spec log ratio gear box with open centre diff. Buy a JDM type R with the proper close ratios and adjustable centre diff control and you'll not be disappointed.
The P1 was nothing more than a V3 Sti import that was "homologated to use on uk roads". They removed DCCD to fit ABS and made the suspension softer. If you want the best classic that isn't a 22B you want a Version 6 Japanese import.
It’s got an EJ207 and an updated interior so it must be based on a V5 or V6 import. Years also match, P1 was sold in 2000 during the Version 6 model year. V3 has the older interior with no airbags and an EJ20K. Also sold 4 years before the P1 (1996-1997)
Anyone calling P1 the best Impreza simply dont know what they are talking about. Performance, durability and handling is far superior in any newage sti, especually the jdm widetrack versions. Collectability and looks wise, there is no competition, it is 22B. P1 is just a watered down STi Type R.
Who doesn't smile when they see a P1 on the road/at a show?
Gorgeous car that’s probably already a classic and love it that the owner actually uses it as it should be
I had a P1 WR with all options, the best car I've ever owned...and gutted to see the prices now when I sold mine for £16,000!

The 22B is personally my favorite of all the STI's. I didn't know the Prodrive was such a rare car. Just wow.
same, 22b always will hold a special place in my heart. nothing can replace it imho
I have a 22b but i still love the P1, it was my dream car back then, and i still want one today!!! 💙
What for ?🤷♂️ To not put the miles on the 22b

Owned a P1 for 20 years. Loved it. Such fun.
What a dream car right here. Between the P1 and the 22B, I would be happy with either models in my collection.
The huge smile on your face when you drive this car is fantastic. Becky, keep up the great work
Gotta love the Impreza !! 💙💙
I wish my dad bought an Impreza like this so I could grow up with it :(
They are not Recaro seats as described.
Recaros were an option or on the P1 WR spec.

That was a well balanced review, well done 👏
Nice review but felt so underwhelmed when i drove a friends type r. Wonder if the P1 would change that 🤔
this is the greatest looking impreza ever

I prefer the Evo equivalent.
@@resnonverba137 Tommi Mak?? Got to be in red though🥰
@@welloilbeefhooked4984 If you can find one. If not, a standard Evo X1 320 is a cracking car.

Great car, already a classic
I used to own one. What a car!!!
Cracking video 👍🏼summed up driving perfectly
I just told u..that why we love this car
I leave the DCCD in default setting all day anyway. Feels kinda like a fool not knowing which setting I am suppose to be in lol.

This is the truth. Anyone who really drives Imprezas, will know this.
I won't lie, literally had to turn off. Pity, because the car is amazing
Why you turn off?

I'm currently looking for one, any leads?
Not a future classic its already a classic
My uncle has one soon I'll get it
Fantastic car!
Just saw an auction with this car and it went for more than 200k
Future classic? This car was exactly that from day one.
Subaru of the 90’s and 2000’s except 1 or 2 models never had recaro seats 👍🏽
Dude at my work has had his p1 for over 15 years he paid 9k for it and daily’s it every day
I hope he can write better than you.
this gal literally speaks my mind
It's been classed as a collectable classic for years. Have you lived under a stone?
Great vlog.......regret selling. Flat 4 still sound great.
Amo el subaru impreza gc8 🫶
Matching Impreza blue fingernails!
"Only GC Impreza with ABS" So why my GT is equipped with ABS?
Yeah lol it’s just straight up wrong even some JDM coupes have ABS (WRX Type R Limited). The P1 isn’t unique in that sense.

if you like replacing head gaskets every 80.000 to 100.000 km. and the rear wheel bearings are a nightmare to replace. not hating just statin.
Iv had my subaru for over 11 years, now has 320,000kms still no issues, only think is it goes through alot of cv boots on the turbo side.
Some years ago werer cheaper and afforfable, nowadays the owners ask for 20-25000
Sonic Blue? You mean WR blue???
P1 was sonic blue, slightly different shade to WR blue
What’s this chick sayinnnnn
There was prodrive imprezas before the P1 and there was brochures to buy the parts from 🤣

A much prettier young Lara Croft in a P1. Godspeed young lady, respectfully.

Never had the pleasure of a wrx/sti drive. Definitely need the experience
Put in on your bucket list, trust me, an experience like no other!! 💙
Classic design. Subaru should get back to this style instead of the new models that look like Hondas
