What a wonderful combination. So blissful and divine. So pleasant and enchanting. Violin Maestro Krishnan Sir matching the Legend in every sangathi- neraval, swaraprasthara so marvellously. All throughout excellent accompaniment by Sarvalaghu Samrat Ramabhadran Sir with incredible regularity. Music at its majestic strides. Sangeetha Kalanidhi Madurai Mani Iyer's brilliant variations in neraval is simply outstanding. Ramabhadran Sir playing wonderfully when Ganakaladhara Mani Iyer is dwelling on the notes, is extreme bliss and divine. Thanks to my parents who have initiated into this great ocean of unequalled quality. We have been hearing this masterpiece for over 60 years. But everytime one gets excited and enlightened 🙏🙏🙏
I am hearing this song atleast one time in a day, everyday.. since so many years...everytime it make me wondering how it was possible for a human being to sing like this and handling the swaram in such a scintillating style....amazing... No doubt that he was "Kaliyuga Naradha"...
In Neraval of Hiitavu, with its variations of Hitavui as Hitavuive, Hitavuive, Hitavuivee .....I sensed creative playfulness, giving me immense joy - Isn't that the very purpose of music?
My father used to say that rasikaa would be eagerly and impatiently waiting for uii uiis. I have been listening to MMI for past 40 yrs(recorded version) and hv become like his old day rasikas
@@adityab2846 if you look at his kalpanaswarams it’s all in sequence of 2,4,6,8 rather than 3,5,7. It’s hard to make it sound good, as it just seems repetitive to the listener. Only he could do it and still make it sound beautiful.
@@ramanvk5523 No sir. Usually old number of swarms are laid on the even beat of the thaalam like 3's, 5's n so on. He sings even numbers which is extremely unique to his style of singing.

Two weeks ago, on October 6, at the West Windsor Plainsboro Middle School, Sri T M Krishna sang this kriti beautifully in a grand 3 ½ hour concert. Then two days ago, at the same venue, Sri Surya Prakash, whose sangeetha acharya, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T V Shankara Narayanan was Sri MMI’s shishya, also sang the same kriti. And today, when I came across this video and listened to it again, perhaps for the twentieth time, and read all the nice commentaries written here by rasikas using superlatives and glowing words of praise, I thought of the great vocalist MMI, and wondered what exactly is it that captivates rasikas’ minds whenever they hear Sri MMI. In addition to his unique style, and smooth, effortless flow of his music, to those with a fine, pristine sense of sruthi, his singing stood out. Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman wrote in his autobiography that there was only one other vocalist who had sruti shuddha comparable to that of MMI : Sri M D Ramanathan. They say that for musicians, Shruthi is maatha and Laya is Pitha. But for Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Ganakaladhara (this title was created just for him, and has not been awarded to anyone else since) Madurai Mani Iyer, Shruthi was not just maatha, but Pitha, too! He was a true naadopaasaka. My sangeetha acharya, Sri T N Bala, when he was about 10 years old, learnt Carnatic music from Sri MMI for many years. During my classes, when he reminisced about his beloved guru, occasionally he burst into tears; he revered his teacher as if he were a singing Deva from Narada loka. When I go to Chennai during Music season, if I mention casually to rasikas sitting near me at the sabhas, that my teacher was a Sri MMI shishya, their eyes always widened with awe: the name MMI is awe inspining! It is almost 50 years since Sri MMI passed away, but the rasikas adore him to this day. Many rasikas think that this kriti, in particular, is one of his most memorable and captivating recordings. I am very delighted to read through your comments.. I am 35 years old and zero knowledge in sangeetham. I had heard MMI's song through my father. I always feel something special with his voice and the way he sing, which u mentioned effortless. Now, I do listen this song and other MMI's collections at least once in a day.
I will restrict myself to stating that however pleasing TMK’s recitals may be (I have not heard it personally nor will I), I would not bracket him with MMI or RS, who are both respectful of tradition and parampara and maintain, nay, uplift, the dignity of Carnatic music by their demeanour. The ability of Carnatic music to bring the listener closer to divinity depends on the purity of the performer. Regretfully, TMKs track record points south
i have this on cassette i bought in the music store in mylapore in 1984, and have always loved it....i had no idea then who he was, but i relied on the opinion of the shop owner, i knew i loved carnatic music, and madurai meenakshi kovil, and the serene expression on the face of MMI...
