Great tutorial man! So that is how Lock-Transparency works, huh? I always thought it locked the layer so you don't mess around with it by accident. This was of great help, thanks :D
You explained this so well and were so patient in teaching and explained everything! I love your use of color and attention to detail even in what would otherwise be... a circle! The character was so well done. This tutorial was so very helpful in helping me in a lot of ways, I'm so happy you made this video! I'm going to watch all of your videos! Thanks again :)

Coming from a pencil and paper background from when I was a kid, thank you so so so much for this tutorial!! I just couldn't figure out how to do any shading in digital art before now!!!
@@rikariskedlife Sadly not as much as I would like. I used to be way better at it but with no time on my hands most of it looks like I just started drawing. Work and life keeps me busier than I would like. I weld and work with wood a little bit. If you are interested in advise, I would strongly recommend that before you enter the work force (since you are 13) stick with this and practice every second you can. Cause I didn't and I can tell you I wish I had. I could still get where I want to go with art, but it means carving out what little time is left in my day and neglecting other things. So stick with it. You'll thank yourself later. 😁
@@NathanaelPotoski thanks for the advice. I will stick with drawing but it’s just not my thing y’know. I’m more of a musical.. i am good at both of them equally and i will keep up with both of my talents life-long.. :)

Any thoughts of about using Sketchbook Pro on an iPad? I'm under the impression that the iPad version of Sketchbook Pro is watered down. Again, solid work on your videos. AutoDesk should hire you to do their tutorials.
Good tutorial! nice and slow and from basic to finish ! most tutorials they talk to fast a beginner needs things slow! and those with some experience, thanks!
Fantastic tutorial , will you when there is time , do some more but in real time if possible ? I find you a great teacher ! Thank you very much for sharing . . .
Hey Andy, well this one is in real time. Ofcourse I've prepared some of the stuff included, but it is real time. I just don't want to go any slower, because nowadays everything goes fast and I don't want people (the audience) to get bored.. THX! Regards, Michael
Fantastic! I have tried to shade things before using gradient, shade, and shadows - and none came close to making something look so 3D as this green goblin critter. Your attention to detail with those eyes was simply amazing! Q: How would you animate something like this if it were to move around? Or would you be forced to color each frame by hand like you did here?
Thank you for your great tutorials!!!! I'm just getting started with digital painting and I'm using photoshop now. I'm thinking of switching to Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. Can AS P paint on texture. For example I can take a picture of some dried mud with cracks in it and turn it into a brush and then paint on texture in PS. Does AS P have any way of doing that or any way of painting texture from some other way? Thank You!!
John167190 I really don't know if you can create your own brush from textures. Sorry. I also use Phshp everyday. Some things I like better about ASP and some about Phshp. Sometimes I go back and forth. Regards, Michael
Hi Joyce, thanks a lot. Glad it was usefull, cheers for letting me know.. I've just uploaded a new video, where I show my pencil settings and such (also airbrush). Here's the link; ruclips.net/video/lelpZ8UMu68/видео.html Let me know? THX! Regards, Michael
Hi! This is a really great tutorial! However whenever I do this the shades look choppy and you can clearly see where one shade starts and the next begins. Do you know what I can do to fix this problem? Is there any special brush preferences or change the canvas sizes or some option i should apply?
Why did you fill the shape with all black first? Also are your colors and fills set to 100 % of the tolerance, opacity, etc? ( or is it pressure on this app?) Do you recommend coloring on one layer or multiple layers for highlight , shadows and darker shadow? Did you pick red for the eyes because it is a complimentary color for green?
+Victor Lopez Then you came to the right channel. Not that I think I know it all, but I can surely teach you some of my method.. Stay tuned! More coming soon! Regards, Michael
As this is going on 4 years now, in the most recent updated version, which I have, when you want to flood fill the ellipse, you need to draw it on a separate layer then open bucket icon and to the right there is the option for Sample one/Sample all layers, you have to click that to flood fill. At least that is how I did it.
Thank you for this video! I want to try my hand at digital art and I don't have any equipment yet. May I ask what type of decent digital pen & pad do you recommend for beginners/advanced beginners? Thank you so much!
Hey Michel. Thanks a lot for the tutorial. I tried same thing. I have one doubt. How did you made that smooth out line from where u started this drawing of green character. ?
at 10:00 or so, there's a white arrow pointing downwards at the critters head. When you follow the arrow the other way, it'll bring you to the menu'tool'bar where there is a (bended) line with some dots. That's the one you need to draw smooth lines. The symbol which looks kind of like a hockeystick. Regards, Michael
great tutorial, thanks, but every time I do the shade under the circle, it goes over it, and not behind, even with the lock layer and transparency any thoughts??
they should add a lighting addon which you can summon a simulation of a light source and you can adjust it where you want the light source to be at and the shading would do it for you. Sort of like SFM or Blender
Is there a way to put everything into gray tones/shades and working with that and then coloring over it in a different color without loosing the texture? That's what photoshop cn do if I'm correct, so I was wondering if skp has a similar setting
this tutorial really helped me alot thanks! I have a request... can you do a tutorial on how to draw water (like a clear glass of water, a fish tank with water, waterdrops, a waterfall & the ocean) using any tablet or phone app. it would be cool if you could also demonstrate how to draw it on paper ☺
Hi I figure it out. For the shadow is the circle to be unde the circle. The shadow layer needs to be under the circle layer. My one add layer on top every time. So I had to move it down. Simple. Thanks anyway.
Ok correct me if im wrong
Start with solid color
Feather some darker and darker colors
And then lighter color all with the airbrush
Then shadow
Right?
+chrisisboard yes, that's the way I do it most of the time.. Good luck!
Thanks sir,
