Just a thank you for your extremely interesting, entertaining and knowledgeable reviews. I don’t always completely agree with you, but I do agree the vast majority of the time. More importantly, you have introduced me to many composers and artists and your enthusiasm for them is infectious. So thank you!
You have exemplary taste in soft drinks as well as music, Uncle Davey! Interesting review of a highly variable box. I may stream one or two of the highlights, but too many misses here for a box set purchase to make sense for moi. Happy 2025!
The amazing Bruckner neighing horse! It's been a while, made my evening. Pretre's recordings are relatively unknown to me. Suffice to say I really enjoy his 'Also sprach Zarathustra' on RCA. Packs a punch.
Dave: when your channel first started you had these delightful reviews involving snack items. Could you bring that back? Or do more with food/beverage? They're so much fun!
I may have missed this, but have you gone through Prêtre's Warner Symphonic box? Similarly "patchy" but I think some of the repertoire is far more interesting.
When I used to read reviews in High Fidelity and Stereo Review, one critic more than once complained that Pretre's conducting was "slack". I've never read that term iused to describe a conductor's work before or since.
I’ve often winced while listening to many of Pretre’s records. As you mention…he suddenly just rushes through phrases, like he lost patience with the music and wants to move on to the next number.
I'm foggy about the difference between ginger beer and ginger ale (which I like). But according to Sullivan's The Zoo, you could get ginger beer at a Victorian refreshment stand. 2025 resolution--try Dave's recommended ginger beer. But I plan to skip this Pretre box, though I'm happy to have the Poulenc box.

From another ginger beer fan, that one looked amazing! Thanks for the tip!

Here for the horse neighs
What's he like as an an accompanist? I mainly know him from Hoffmann at covent garden 1981
Yes Dave, love Taffers's show! All the best to you in the New Year...

I've done a couple quite recently.
Awesome alliteration! Channeling Benjamin Britten?
(Unrelated) Dave, if you haven't already, could you give your thoughts on the many Requiems (Brahms, Mozart, Verdi, etc)?
I have already.
@@DavesClassicalGuide Thanks! I'll look it up.

Not here. I think it preceded this channel and I didn't go back for it.
I buy my Fever Tree at Costco.
Now I want Ginger Beer 🤔

Ginger beer is a bit more spicy. You can get it at your local Trader Joe's.
It's most excellent in making a Moscow Mule.
@@LyleFrancisDelpThanks for the tip! 😋
Ginger beer is spicier and sometimes less sweet. Highly recommended in a Dark and Stormy. Fevertree is a grand brand.
