Good for you! I replaced my Cadillac lights also. But my car was a 2010 CTS, and it was a little bit harder, but hey I still got it done. I also used RUclips. More power to us!!!
Thank you so much Nikki. I changed my light light bulbs today following your RUclips guidance and was very successful in the installation. Thank you again, MM Born and raised in Las Vegas.
Wow! Thanks soo much for this info! Unbelievable that the dealerships want to take you to cleaners, instead of trying to keep loyal customers!. Hey, RUclips...thanks..what would we do without you?
Very helpful video! Thank You! I have the same Cadillac model and I do majority of minor repairs! These cars is no different than a base model Buick. Which was my old car. So with that being said, these dealership mechanic shops will charge u ridiculous prices for repairs! Happy to see a female for once not get screwed by these shady shops!
Way to go!! I've been turning my own wrenches on my owned vehicles ever since my 20s. I wouldn't call myself a "mechanic" by any means, however, I learn REAL quick as soon as something crazy like a $800+ bulb swap come up! As a result, I've been able to own nicer cars because my only maintenance costs are parts! Way to go again!
I knew it!!! I watched your video just to remind me how this was done. Someone, meh hem, a guy, tried to tell me that this was hours of labor and removing a bunch of parts! Not! Thanks so much!
I think your gangster for calling out their b×××shit but mechanics don't set the price it's the dealership and the service manager, but I like your style
I love this video. I just changed my turn signal bulb on my 2013 XTS the same way. It was a little more difficult, but I was able to get it done pretty easy. 😅
I called Cadillac of Las Vegas and asked them to replace the bulb. Price $406. We take off the bumper to fix. I had checked on youtube and found that there are 2 ways to change the light. You can take off the bumper ( which my son can do) or you can remove the fuse box or the air exchange and change the light. Pep boys used the latter method and charged me $54.00. We are being gouged in automotive repair.
Some repair shops will totally take advantage of you if you own a Cadillac. I learned that within the first week of owning mine. Anything that can be done at home, we’ll do. I changed my own daytime running light, and am getting ready to change my own headlight. It’s really not that hard. For the daytime light, I spent $25 for the bulb, and it took about 2 hours to replace.
I just changed the bulbs on a '11 CTS. You don't have to remove the bumper. You do have to remove a lot of clips and unnecessary plastic covers. Should take about an hour or so. Definitely not an $800 job.
For something like that I always do it myself because mechanic shops will rob you. I'd be doing my own engine and such work if it weren't for my bad back three slipped discs severe arthritis and a laminectomy where they cut part of your spine out.
I tried to edit my earlier post, but, for whatever reason, it would not let me. I was going to say that I was able to remove multiple leaves, from the air filter housing and replace the filter itself while I was in there. T.y. again!
I am upgrading the bulbs on my 2017 XTS. Cadillac quoted me $400 to change them out. Said they needed to take off the bumper which isn’t true. Ordered some 8000k HID’s off Amazon which are plug and play. Something I can do in under 5 min. No tools. And, bumper in tact.
@@Generali225 Pretty good actually! I actually took them back and ordered the BeamTECH 8000K. I wanted a colder white look. That was a great decision. Beam Tech makes some great bulbs.
Ok, I’m done. 10 minutes. I did not remove the shrouded part. Just the wiper filler tube. The trickiest part was putting the water-proofing plastic light cap.
When you install a LED bulb like that... you need to be sure the LEDs are at 9 and 3 o'clock. Then you need to check the alignment so you don't blind other drivers.
Very good job with this video! Nice tips & right to the point! Although I have a newer model, I think it’s basically the same! $2000 for air filter 😂 Thanks
They tried to charge me about 600 for the same thing, instead I bought the bulbs and found a video like yours on line and did it myself. They probably did think you gotta take the engine out to change the headlights, seems like they be experimenting. They should all be sued for trying to charge that for a 10 minute procedure. So after I traded my Cadillac the vehicle I purchased to replace it the first thing I asked the salesman was do I have to remove the transmission to replace the headlights, he laughed I didn't.
Beware of dealerships. They are not always the best. Took my srx to one for backup sensor issue. Couldnt figure it out and wanted to take my trailer hitch off the frame. I said forget that. Fixed it myself by accident by changing bose amp due to rear speakers not working. Cost me over 200 dollars for them diagnosing nothing!!!!
She got it wrong, they were quoting her for both housings. There is a class action lawsuit because those housings were faulty. They had two problems first being letting too much moisture in and corroding everything, second being the chrome on the plastic projector was burning off and making the low beams unsafe to drive with, too dim. New housings are needed with LEDs installed as they burn much cooler.
this seems a bit more difficult than mine all i gotta do for mine is just take off the cover around the wheels and unplug the bulb i have a 2014 cadillac ats
Ok it's very strange. There's no way both lights would go out without something making them blow. So it sounds like something had to make them blow at the exact same time.
Yeah tell me about GM .. but you will get more shocked if you know that it cost me around 3000 USD to change the headlight itself for my 2014 XTS VSport Platinum in Qatar GM Man im died
The bulbs don't last forever. HID bulb will only last maybe five good years at the max. That bulb would have gone out years ago if it has been somebody at the factory.
Will they saw us camping we paid 1,500 so they can fix one of my front light that want of because he said they had to put a hole new light the bulb and everything and it was hard to put o will next time I know
I removed the felt thing on the wheel well and went in through there. Easy fix. You were rubbing your face with the gloves on you may of got oil on the gloves. Just saying if your light goes out again.
They quoted you that much because both housings need to be replaced there was a recall. The recall consisted of two main problems, The chrome coating burning off making low beams too dim to safely drive and second was letting too much moisture in and corroding the components. This is only going to happen to you again, and the recall is no longer open.
@6atlantis She never said they mentioned anything about the housings. If they were going to force her to buy new housings you would think one of the 3 places would have mentioned that. You are right about the recall because we had ours replaced under the recall. But once the recall period ended that replacement is optional.
@@lezlethal You missed the point of my comment, she didn’t mention the housings because she still doesn’t grasp the root concept of her original problem. @@lezlethal and if you replaced your housings with OEM Cadillac ones and used the same high temp hid head lights without switching to LED you are going to experience the same problem again shortly if your car suffered from the coating problem not the moisture problem.
@@nikkiwade9744 Your car mustn’t have suffered from the deteriorating reflective coating, glad you lucked out. Because unfortunately there was a recall for the reflective coating, my mothers lasted from 2015 until last year, I replace them with aftermarket housings because the ones from GM have the same defect, I would have to buy new housings again in another five years.
LOL. You did the easy side. That entire air filter housing has to come off to do the passenger side.. Not difficult but I'd love to see a woman do that side. Also, most times it's not just the light bulbs that cause a problem. Those original halogen bulbs torch the chromed plastic of the original housing causing a loss of reflectivity. It is best to replace the entire headlight housing with aftermarket parts and bulbs (either LED-much cooler burning or halogens again0.
