I’ve had this on a vinyl album since the 1960s and have heard it elsewhere on the radio and now on the Internet. This is the first time I’ve actually seen it performed. They did a truly out-STANDING job! And now I know where the chorus comes from. 😀
This is one of my favourite pieces.. my grandparents used to listen to this music many many years ago and I was introduced to it as a young child - (I am 49 yo now) - My congratulations to the conductor and the musicians... absolutely endearing
Listening while thinking of three in Iran whom I care deeply about - one a US citizen who left during the previous administration - combines beautiful memories with uncertainty & pain.
I grew up in Iran in the 60's in a much more civilized country. I played this on the piano as a teenager but only now do I really experience the musical depth, the beauty and longing and the capturing of the cultural spirit by Ketelby. He is underrated because everyone is impressed with the complexity of german classical composers. But the greatness of a piece depends on whether it moves you, not its musical sophistication. The piece is performed here movingly and flawlessly. Kudos to the conductor and musicians!
I completely agree with you...music is about feeling...not only about speed, hard notes or technics. I'm brazilian but i can dream about persian markets, full of people, speaking loudly, and buying things.
I grew up listening some different kind of music radio stations. Ever loved sinphonics, but, didn't knew about this music name. When i was a little boy (70's) i've heard a song called Take my Heart, by Jack James. And at the teenage time, knew a funny version of this Ketelbey song by Spike Jones & His City Slickers. Amazing composer and his masterpiece, regarded by musicians and music lovers.
I grew up listening to this. Absolutely love it. Great music I not only hear but I feel it. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful performance. I still love and enjoy this.
People, please quit saying Ketelbey is underrated. He's rated as exactly as what he was -- a first-rate composer of popular light music. Stop pretending he's anything more than that -- and it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Absolutely stunning. You made me so emotional with your beautiful playing. Ketelby would've loved your interpretation, that I'm absolutely sure of it. I say it again a deep and beautiful performance from a grossly neglected composer
I am Korean living in Canada many years. I’ve never been to Iran. But this music gives me many precious nostalgic memories. Thank you for this beautiful melodies.

I totally agree with you. There is a certain snobbery attached to music, and most of the Arts, by a certain quarter.

Good on ya mate.

Mi fa commuovere ogni volta che l'ascolto.
너무 좋아하는 곡...
小編成だが、細部に行き届いた指揮と演奏で、楽しませて貰った。映画「アラビアのロレンス」「モロッコ」のシーンを思い浮かべる。ありがとう!
About 55 years ago I bought a vinyl record of this by Ted Heath, his version is the best version and already on RUclips
Absolutely fantastic
Beautiful ❤
Wonderful version !

He won an important competition over Gustav Holst et al, for one thing. He was a theatrical composer and did very well for himself.

As an Iranian living in UK for past 50 years this does really take me to my childhood and Iranian culture.
They don't write music like this anymore. And I'm not sure why. But I would play it faster
Yes, definitely. Tempo is (not MUCH, but IS) too slow.
well played
This song gives me the creeps😅
Fantastic
Love Asian music

Very well done for a relatively smaller symphony! What country is this, by the way?
Persia is/was modern day Iran.
