    For myotome testing, do you typically grade your force, like you would in an MMT. Do you typically hold if for 5 seconds.

    Hi Dr. Khalid,
    Would you recommend the pt hold your their contraction against your resistance for at least 5 seconds, as myotomal weakness takes time to identify?
    Thank you,
    Isaac

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  4 года назад +1

      To be honest my friend true myotomal weakness may not even take 5 seconds. However this may be a good habit to ensure consistency for you. If someone can start the contraction very well but then it fades over the 5 seconds I wouldn't necessarily think this is myotomal (because they could achieve the good contraction initially)

    heres a question for you, if there is a reduced sensation on the oxford scale or even the area being tested feels weak could mobilisation or HVT improve the nerve irritation symptom for that single nerve route? so lets say C5 as an example ?

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  3 года назад

      Hi Robbie - the idea is that therapy is aimed at improving the pathology by reducing the compression and thus improving strength. In specific answer to your question, Manual therapy is something I am using less and less because the evidence seems to be shifting away from it, but I suppose in theory, yes if manual therapy to the area reduces the compression then symptoms should improve

      @@ClinicalPhysio thanks, in reference to your reply if you were to pick 3 areas that you focus on if manual therapy is becoming less supported what would your current therapeutic focus be?

    why do we do myotomes tests if we did already resistence movements tests??

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  2 года назад

      Hi! Myotomes are very useful because they are a SET list of actions to test all levels of the Cervical Spine. For example, if you were assessing a patient with shoulder pain, would we routinely do resistance tests of Cervical Spine, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand?..... Usually not, that is where myotomes makes the difference

    • @goncalomadureira2588
      @goncalomadureira2588 2 года назад

      @@ClinicalPhysio first of all thanks for the quick response. So would u say that you only test out the Myotomes if you suspect of a neuropatic disorder?

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  2 года назад +1

      @@goncalomadureira2588 you’re welcome 😊 Yes that is correct - for neurological pathology

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  2 года назад +1

      And then like you said, resisted tests for other pathologies where you may wish to be more specific towards local pathology and local tissue
