- Those of you within the restoration industry, whether a remediation or assessment contractor should be aware of what is commonly referred to as a moisture map. For the remediation specialist, this can be the difference between you getting paid and chasing your money. For an assessor, this is often the difference between a good third-party report and a great one.
This video will provide a high level overview on moisture mapping, what it is, why we use it and where you can get a starter copy for yourself.
Feel free to download one or more of the three different moisture maps that I've developed over the years. Within this folder, you may also find a word doc - should you like to develop your own version off of the same template that I started with years ago. You may find these by following the link below...

You add so much value to the industry as the passion you have for it! Keep doing these awesome videos brother. 💪
Thanks Santy! Hope all is well.
Very cool setup 👌
This is a great moisture map with initial readings. Love it
Thank you. Very much appreciated!
Thank you so much for this video !! God Bless you
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you from San Diego.
Thanks for the shout out! I’m from LA, so all the best from one Californian to another. 🤙
Great video! I am a consultant working in the damage restoration industry in the UK. I am a big Magicplan fan and use it for all of my private drying work. I like the way you colour-code the affected areas, (applying KISS principles) and it works well. Do you generate a duplicate plan in Magicplan to document changes or do you use the original plan in another software package to make amendments? Keep up the great informational videos.
Hi Drew! Thanks for the feedback. I certainly love me some Magicplan as well!
I don’t actually use Magicplan for the color coding and such - just the floor plan development. I simply import a picture of the floor plan into a PDF template using an app called Notability, and then I begin my markup phase in this PDF annotating app. I can easily duplicate the prior days maps and then make changes to reflect current day conditions.
@@IAQJosh Hi Josh
Thank you for the reply. I'm looking forward to more of your content, keep up the good work.
Hi Josh,
Does magic plan allow for the colored line annotations or are you adding that separately?
Hi Korel! Magicplan does allow for color annotations, but personally, I find the iPad application ‘Notability’ to be much more efficient and user friendly.
Great info.
How can we get the map template that you are using?
Thank you! Link to everything is in the description. Any questions - just reach out!
Hey where can I learn more about moisture mapping for my dad's restoration company?
I'm about to attend the APPLIED STRUCTURAL DRYING and Wrt classes....
Hey there! While I don't know of any school or formal training programs that cover moisture mapping, I'm happy to share with you my approach and answer any questions that you have. I'll eventually have some additional video content covering this subject.
Shoot me an email and we can schedule a Zoom or Google meeting next week.
Hi Josh, where can i find the moisture mapping template? Thank you
Hi Rob! There should be a link to download these templates within the video description. If you have any trouble, shoot me an email - josh@learniaq.com
What software do you use for Mold assessment reports?
For mold assessment reports, I use good ole’ Microsoft word. It’s best for my needs nowadays.
In the past I’ve used and liked software like GoCanvas, Fastfield Forms, etc.
Which application or program is good for reporting readings and humidity maps?
Thank you
Excellent question! While there are a variety of programs that can handle the documentation process associated with moisture surveys/mapping, Notability is one of the top applications that I’ve used. This app works very well across all Apple devices and you can view up-to-date PDFs on all of your devices if you’re syncing with iCloud.
Another application work looking into is DrawboardPDF. This program is a bit more expensive in comparison, however, others that you’re sharing these maps with are able to see your updates in real-time. This can be very useful for a project manager or admin overseeing the documentation process for accuracy.
Thank you🙌
I need a dry daily humidity record chat
That is included in the sheets I/we use regularly. Granted, if you’re not looking for everything else in these sheets, then this is overkill for your needs.
Hi Josh
Howdy! 🤠
As always, great info and fun. Plus a healthy amount of cat content.
