    I honestly wasn't expecting much from this video but this is all great information! I work in the mold/water/fire remediation field for a local business and it blows my mind how much unnecessarily higher the franchises bids are then ours and how many jobs of theirs we have to redo. There's a lot of people in this field trying to make a quick dollar rather then actually try to help the customer.

    Equipment setup/monitoring is getting the scrubber, dehu, and any fans into the house and positioned, and then having someone go in to make sure that the dehu isn’t overfilling, making sure that the scrubber is running correctly and hasn’t blown through its filter. It also is when they check to see if they need that equipment anymore, and remove it as it becomes unnecessary. That can sometimes save you money - instead of charging for 6 days of equipment rental, you have them monitored and if you only need them for 2 days, they are removed.

      In the definition it also includes drive time. The low bids on here are ridiculous. Where can you find two technician to work for 90 each. The demo might not take that long but the cleaning does. Who pays for the almost $200 dollars hepa filters

    A local news program was setting up mold remediation companies. That's us. They used eyeliner to mark a few areas and then started calling firms. Our rep walked straight in the door and said "nobody can tell you if that's mold or not without having it tested. That's under $100, but I don't think that's mold." But they ONLY showed the firms that lied. One dude wanted to rip the wall down and put up a new one. It's amazing to me that the bigger the liar you are, the more successful your business is. Oh well, we make mistakes, but we don't lie and we certainly don't lie about mold. Geez!!

    We went under contract THEN found out an active leak had been happening since February and the water was saturating the paneling. We went behind it after and saw a lot of black on a few slabs. We were told cutting it out was enough to get rid of it... after seeing this that obviously isn't the case either...Appreciate the info.

    Thank you for an informative video. It did confirm my suspicion that its a greed driven profession. The written estimate reads like the ridiculous medical bills hospitals produce making everything sound super complex and high tech : " medication specialist evaluated patient and administered analgesic. Med specialist observed patient and followed up one hour later" $585. Translation: nurse gave patient an aspirin on her way to lunch, than popped her head in after lunch and said " how ya doing hun"?.... Most people would think that would be worth $5 or $10 tops when presented in plain English but its $585 in medicaleese talk. $1200 for fans and dehumidifier rental plus setup and monitoring fees??? That better come with an analgesic! Lol
    You've convinced me to not even bother calling anyone that goes by the title mold remediation, don't need to be buying anyone's kids college tuition or new speed boats for basic construction/ handyman work.

    • @GaryMorrisjr
      @GaryMorrisjr 5 месяцев назад

      Those humidifiers they use are really expensive. Not saying that justifies the price but it's not a $100 dehumidifier you get at Wal-Mart.
      If you do it yourself, wear protection. Mold is a lot more serious than I think most people realize.
      Look up CIRS. Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome.

    Had roof leak in recent storm. had rood tarped the following day then the house sat for a weak closed up without AC due to no electricity. A week later celiing in the main bedroom area where water damage occured was torn out along with insulation and carpet. fans and dehumifiers installed for a week. Do we need mold remediation since all ceiling and insulation with signs of mold is gone? AC was running as well for the week.

    I'm in the process of buying a home. We are are current under contract. Our inspector found mold in the Attic due to poor ventilation. They just replace the roof since it was two years old and had warranty. The inspector recommended remediation for health and safety. Is that something you would push for the sellers to do? I am highly concerned about the mold because my son suffers from asthma. Would this be a deal-breaker even if they remediation was done and a new roof has been put. First time buyer.

    CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME ADVICE ???? PLEASE PLEASE !!
    I live in NJ in an apt complex. I have mold everywhere at this point it growing on my bedroom pillows. Apt complex won't help me fix it. They juss repainted over it. I'm stuck because I paid my rent for the whole year already. My daughter has asthma and I've been very sick myself. Even my dog is sick now 😢 how do I get this fixed. Supposedly NJ does not have any law against mold. And I have black mold to boot !! PLEASE ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ???!!!!! NEED HELP ASAP. actually Goin to Dr this month to get my blood tested for mold poisoning and toxicity. Don't even know if the results will help me get this fixed !

    • @livingbreed
      @livingbreed 2 года назад +2

      Document EVERYTHING. Save receipts, tests, your emails and texts to your landlord, copies of letters you send which should include photos. Make a file of it. Send letter by certified mail and/or *exactly* as outlined in your lease. You a) should move out asap if feasible, but b) should build your case either way. If you have insurance, a public adjuster can help you negotiate a settlement if available to you. They get paid a percent and have experience and teeth to fight for you. Based on the situation you describe, your landlord should expect a lawsuit from you. Please contact a lawyer. AND, while doing all of that, reach out to as many media outlets as you can, maybe 2-5 local news teams with cameras and live shows, not print. Some news outlets provide ability to reach out to them on their websites. Continue to take photos of everything: leaks, bubbling wallpaper, spots, stains, etc etc. And, get medical tests. If you’re reading, I’ll continue. Pls lmk.

    • @livingbreed
      @livingbreed 2 года назад +1

      Also, to answer your Q on whether test results will help you get it fixed, you basically need a) a *professional* mold test taken in your apartment while you still live there, matched up with / correlated to a doctors report that says the mold in your environment is likely to produce the adverse reactions you and daughter are experiencing. If you make those two investments-medical and environmental testing, a lawyer will likely take on the case, assuming you hav me documentation of the whole ordeal. Again, is still need help, please comment and I’ll continue. Not all lawyers will take on mold cases (toxic tort, or other insurance type negligence) because not all lawyers are very good at them, but other firms specialize in them.

    • @livingbreed
      @livingbreed 2 года назад +1

      3/3 : Don’t use a Home Depot, Walmart, or Amazon test as are inaccurate and more importantly, are totally useless and inadmissible in court.

      Look up CIRS. you are probably suffering from it. It's a serious condition and they need to fix the mold immediately.
      Do it before you are disabled from it like me.
      Only a CIRS specialist will be able to diagnose you. Doctors are clueless and do not help.

    If I get a certified mold inspector to come out to my house and they find mold can they seal it off and not let me back in until i pay them a ridiculous fee? I really don't want my house turning into the second half of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

    • @lookmold
      @lookmold  5 лет назад +6

      No a mold inspector just tells you what needs to be done. Whether you have the work done by a mold remediation professional or not is up to you. But they are the ones that turn your home into the second half of ET, not the mold inspector :)

    • @alfredhall6132
      @alfredhall6132 4 года назад +1

      No. A mold inspector can only tell you if you have a mold problem and the extent of the problem. Some are qualified to write a mold remediation protocol while some are not. I'm glad you used the term certified mold inspector. I live in Massachusetts and technically you don't need to be certified as an inspector or remediator, only registered with the state as a H.I.C. Scary. When interviewing a mold professional, make them prove they are certified. Like NORMI.org has a pro locator site to find certified pros in your area.

  • @leysoncassity1590
    @leysoncassity1590 Год назад +1

    A lot of this was good advice but you shouldn’t be giving people advice if you don’t know the entire process as you could be giving false information as you did. The equipment set up ,take down and monitoring has nothing to do with setting up containment. It’s about moving those heavy air movers ,dehus and hepa air scrubbers around to the right location then coming back every 24 hours to get readings and moving equipment around or taking it off the job site . So to me this bill is very fair and homeowner is lucky because the company could have easily justified more

    My bf has black mold on his drywall spot on the ceiling of a closet in bedroom and black mold spots in main bedroom and a a black mold spot in the kitchen when I first went in the house I smelled the mold. He said 8yrs ago he had a roof leak and he put a roof on a metal kne himself well make a long story short he didnt use bubble wrap under the metal I guess that in turn caused leaking in between the siding on his house and in the closet. He took front side of the siding off replaced wood and said he stopped the leak but the black mold is still on the wall never cleaned the mold off the walls sprayed ammonia on the wall in closet but see mold on the ceiling in the closet he doesny wanna hire a mold inspector but I told him I wont live in that house unless he at least replaces the drywall in the house now what he will find behind the walls I dont know I know the base boards look to me like there is mold but I seen mold under the refrigerator also I dont know he has not lived there for two yrs he was going thur a divorce and bought his wife half out on the house

    Two men and a truck for a full day for $190?? No way. Minimum wage for an untrained, unlicensed, pick-up laborer down at the Home Depot parking lot around here is $15 an hour, that's $240 just for hiring two day-laborers, not counting the truck or equipment. No reputable remediation company with a license and trained workers could pick up this job for the numbers you're quoting.

    • @Guaranteedkc
      @Guaranteedkc 4 года назад +1

      That is not the actual labor charges. Thats a line item charge standard in the insurnace billing that is typically labelel as Emergency Servoce Charge. The actual labor charges are on a few separate line items such as "equip monitoring set up and take down" as well as the charges for "drywall removal etc" as of today in my locale the average charges per labor hour for this type of work are $48 to $64 per manhour. Involved in that labor charge is not just removal and demolition but should also mention the other duties of a :Advanced Mold Remediaton Technician" or "AMRT" would be double bagging the debris and possibly post wiling bags with antimircobial. These steps are crucial in preventing any cross contamination issues.

      I don't know if it will work but ozone kills mold (it's not safe for humans either so learn about it before using it.) and if you keep humidity below 55%, I'm shooting for 40, it will keep the mold from growing again.
      Not a solution but I'm doing the best I can with what I've got.
      Hoping someone else will answer that knows.
