I was searching for what an ID map is used for untill I watched this video. After watching this, I got the idea that next time I don't have to assign different materials to different parts, because it will create several texture sets and load more works. With this bravo skill I get from here, I can just use an ID map which could be more efficient than painting quats one by one. Much thanks❤

Oh my god, this is genius. I kept looking at the ID map option and thinking "what the hell even is this", and now that I know what this is, my mind is blown.

For some reason, even wiht ID map new materials are applied to overall model (masks are not automatically created). I see ID map on model but something's just wrong. Anyway, I can still import masks created in photoshop and set them manually to groups of layers but, even that works in the same way, it's really waste of time. Must find out what I'm not doing in the right way. Great tutorial anyway.

If I understand correctly, you can try to create one multimat in your 3d software, then set different colors to certain parts you need to texture separately. After that you will be able to bake id map in marmoset or substance.

Why would you need ID maps if everything is separated out as UV islands? It doesn't save any time or work.

I'm just wondered, why don't paint id map directly in Substance? (As I see, it is impossible)
It would be pretty handy to use single program, than several and re import files.

Using Substance alone would certainly be preferable. Our Year 1 students are learning Photoshop alongside Maya and Substance. As a result we sometimes encourage working between software in tutorials, which is not always the most efficient workflow.

@@JonnyShields I grew up with photoshop (dad used to bring me home software from work in the early 2000s lol), as much as I like it, I hate the business model and don't support it :P However, I bought substance painter 2023 for a one time fee on steam lol. (don't know why but it's available there for the last few years as a one time purchase xD)

@@JonnyShields Hi, I tried also and it is not worked, when I put smart material to some color on model or map - it materials add to full parts of model not to one part . Maybe need mask with color selection? Also I use 3dsmax to convert mesh of model in fbx.

now it work, thank you, the last step I do in other way and it work. I not moved material to the model or map- I added material to the layers list and then add mask color selection and pick color that I want and after this part material added to the part of model that I picked.
