Geoffrey Brennan recently passed away. Along with Jerry Gaus, Brennan was the driving force behind PPE -- the study of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics as an integrated whole in the tradition of Adam Smith and David Hume. Apart from his important scholarly contributions, Geoff was also a great singer. I recall a Fall night at Duke University in 2014 after which we co-taught our Intro to PPE course. The class ended around sunset, and Brennan invited the students to come watch him sing that night in a choral concert at the Duke Chapel. A fair number took him up on his offer. It was a magical experience, in part because it made Geoff so visibly happy. We are lucky to have these vestiges of Brennan doing what he did best.
I've only just heard of this channel and now I suspect I shall spend significant time listening, watching, and thinking. I thank you, but my cats are disappointed.
Professor Brennan. This is great pleasure to see you here. I have been teaching Public Choice Theory with your papers and books for both undergraduate and graduate at KNU in Korea for about 20 years. Please stay healthy and teach us your idea for a longer time. Thank you so much.
Prof. Brennan, thanks a lot! Concise, clear, wonderful language and a pleasure to listen overall. Would appreciate more videos with you introducing us to core concepts. Maybe median voter theorem? :)
I am from Nepal. What do I see in Nepal? Politicians getting involved in one corruption after another. If you want to understand why big government doesn't work, you should understand the work of James Buchanan. Buchanan was one of the most brilliant economists who ever lived!
WTF, i was just reading a book with a small section that mentions this subject after i watched this, this video illuminated a very vast area of question marks on my mind.
I'm trying to promote the ideas of the Public Choice in Perú. If the peruvian politicians knew about these ideas we would not have political instability.
Great video, but I think your definition of economics was a bit too simplified. The central subject in economics is the market. A better definition would be the study of human action based on market variables.
@bradley johnson Prof Brennan's definition of economics is definitely simple -- and precise. I recommend a brief work by Ludwig won Mises -- "Human Action". It's a quick read. Only 952 pages. Free pdf here mises.org/library/human-action-0

Only at George Mason
So this is like material dialectics except dumbed down too far to be useful.
