  • @angusorvid8840

    Great vid. Steadicams are a necessity for solid production values. I am so tired of watching films made with shaky handheld cams which has been a fault written off as a feature ever since The Blair Witch Project. Yeah, it was part of the charm of the film. But man did I get dizzy watching Blair Witch in the theater. And this is why we are flooded with "found footage" films, because studios think audiences will tolerate it, and they do. So it shaves off the budget. You don't need a good cameraman when everything looks like it was filmed in the middle of an earthquake. Same goes for Cloverfield. They could have used some better camerawork. But again, it's the whole "found footage" excuse. And we see it in more straight-line films as well. It's ubiquitous. Having the gumption to put together a rig like this or settling for less is what separates the wheat from the chaff.

    Thanks for the video, I finally got my Ronin S2 and purchased the Vista arm and vest from Proaim. I'm really happy with the S2 but when I put the rig together like you've done, I'm getting a little back and forth on the roll axis when I walk ( the RS2 will roll a little bit side to side and makes the footage unusable. I was wondering if you or anybody else has run across this? The RS2 is flawless when I hand hold it but when I put in on my poor mans "Trinity" I'm getting that wobble on the roll axis when I walk. Lastly, the Trinity is balanced. I've got a V mount battery on the bottom of the Redking gimbal attached with a quick relase plate. My only thought is if I could attach something that could move the battery side to side might help as I can move it forward and back on the quick relase plate. Thanks again for the video.

    • @thefilmalliance
      @thefilmalliance  2 года назад

      Hi David, that’s awesome! I’m not experiencing any of the roll your talking about. Have you tried calibrating the gimbal? I hate when people recommend that but sometimes it works. That would be a great idea to figure out a way to move the battery side to side to give more flexibility. Have you figured out a way to do it? I know the guy I referenced in the video did something similar. His name is best boy Adam.

    • @joyoffilming9500
      @joyoffilming9500 2 года назад

      Hi David, got my R2 just ther other week, and initially I also ran into some little rolling while moving forward with the gimbal handheld.
      Re-balancing and calibration lowered it a bit, but to what made me really happy.
      The breakthrough came with replacing the Arca-Swiss-like mounting plate (the one to mount under the camera) that comes with the RS2 with a far wider Smallrig plate made for the RS2 with multiple screw holes and trenches. Then, put the cage on my camera (Lumix S1) and mounted the new plate to it with 2 instead of 1 screw.
      Not only was the rolling wobble completely gone, furthermore it never happened again to me that the camera would swing around that one single mounting screw, completely debalancing the setup and swinging the lens away from the focus motor.
      DJI did a terrific job with the gimbal, but with the 2 mounting plates for the camera they completely messed up.

    Nice video and exactly the problem I had😊
    I just received the Tilta base plate, and try to assemble. Do you know a solution to connect the origina rs2 -battery to the Tilta?

    hey from the other side of the world ( Cyprus :D ) . so i just get the whole set up and what can i sey is that even with ronin s there is way to put the whole thing together without the battery counterwaight. they provide you with the big screw as well . so the red king plate can get 1 small tripod screw and 1 big . so why to not just put it on the top and skip the whole part with the external battery ? anyway , i am very happy with the result :P ...

      I am trying to transition to a cinematography at the moment and make it a full time job bro . I have done some commercials and some weddings but I really wanted this rig to work because of my back pain .
      Ok so you are completely RIGHT bro ! I test the whole thing and i follow all the steps that you are suggesting. I had to buy the base as well because the screws are unscrewed after like a 20 minutes of use and IT IS unsafe without the base ! The rig itself i awesome. And whatever you say at this video it’s absolutely true . But i am searching for some1 to explain to me the arm part . I have done everything correctly and my rig is appropriately 7 kilos+ . I have changed the spring for heavier set ups but still i can’t find the balance for the arm because i seems that it need to be more loose.

    Nice work! Are you just balancing on a normal light stand to set it up? I’m getting tired waiting for the Tilta Float so I may just go with this as I already have the Tilta base plate and several bits.
    How are you focussing though?

    I got the same arm and vest, using it with ronin mx . It is terrible, you cannot walk and shoot there’s a lot of movement up and down.

    • @thefilmalliance
      @thefilmalliance  3 года назад

      Have you tried loosening the dampening screws on the arm? Theres a second pair of springs if your rig is to heavy. I find the more freely the arm moves the smoother my footage. Don't give up on it yet, keep on working at it. Its a life saver on those long shoots. There is a bit of practice but once you get it there's a very noticeable difference for me.
