I celebrate this shelter. If you have two trees, it works with a cross ridge line for the 2nd loop instead of the stick as well. I use a use a prusik knot to connect the loop with the ridge line to be able to adjust later. A truckers hitch to tighten the ridge line. Just attach the ridge line at the trees in man’s height. When you tight the back there is room for the person, two comfortable. With a view training a 5 min setup. Thanks for the video! No wind, no rain. Just sitting down and enjoy the nature and prepare your meal. When you are tired just go to sleep in the back. One of the best shelters when you like some cover or weather is bad.
In the future, I would be interested in a hexamide type shelter. From what I have seen, it is the most effective in bad weather, especially if you camp on the ridge. Thanks in advance
Used this video to set up this configuration with my new DD tarp today. Just as I was about done, the sky opened up and it downpoured for about 10 minutes. I crawled inside and was nice and dry. Thanks for the vid!
I'm thinking this is the BEST, and most versatile tarp tent set up there is ! Once you've got the basic set up, you can adjust the back to be a little bit open for air flow
Waiting on this exact tarp to be delivered. Thankyou for the great video and channel. Very helpful- will be teaching my daughter these skills as I learn them.
Here in the Scottish Highlands, you need to stake-diwn ALL the loops around the base, or you're gonna' wake-up with no tarp. Also, the fully-enclosed configuration is best in severe conditions because wind-chill is the killer, and this open-door set-up you have here will still allow sub-zero draughts to come inside.
I am byeing that set up i have a question on the inside of the tent What size of ground tarp would cover the entire floor of the tent 8x8 7x7 6x6 tarp if you could help that would be greatly appreciated love the videos cheers
That's a good question...I don't have a definitive measurement, but if I was wanting to cover the entire floor of this set-up I would use an 8x8 ground tarp. It will be big enough, and if it's to big it wouldn't be by much so you could always fold the edges under. I hope this helps. When I set this up again I'll get the inside dimensions. Thanks for watching Robert!
My 3*3 tarp only have 3 loops per side so i set some buttons so i can make this shelter, i use the vontox tarp wich costed 28 €, but with a flash sale costed 22€, its not as good as the dd tarp i supose but its Enough for me i think. Good video, i suscribed for more!! Love from spain
I don't know if you talked about this here or somewhere else but how is the weather protection with this style of tent? does it protect you from heavy rains with or without wind or just a couple of raindrops and something more serious than that's a no go? Thank you beforehande, great video a well explained.
I've used this set up many times in heavy rain, and wind. One of my river island camping videos after I took this set up down I show just how dry it actually stays because you can see the contrast of dry and the wet ground. Even with the front opening. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for the kind words, and for watching!
@@MuddySoulOutdoors I just finished watching that video, thank you for answer. I'm considering a tarp for camping while traveling with my motorcycle, is a low displacement bike so i need lightweight camping gear and seems like a tarp and this style of tent would work just fine in case i have to make an improvised stop on the go. As seen in the video, it seems that the tent protects you very well from the weather and that is just what i need. Thank you again!
I've been looking for that kind of Tarp. Do you have 'Tie Down Loops' going down the middle of it? It looks that way. Please let me know the brand name etc. for this Tarp. Thanks.
It's the Aqua Quest 10x10 Defender Tarp. Here's a link for you with all the information you requested. Thanks for this informative video! Would a 9.5’ x 10’ tarp work for this configuration? Can you fold the flaps in the front (the ones tied to the back pegs) and tie them together in front if you were in rainy weather and you needed extra protection from a major rain storm??
You should be able to use a 9.5'x10' for this setup with no problem. You can use the front flaps for further protection from the rain. You'd have to stake them out in front of the setup, no a big deal. I've used this setup in heavy rain with very little water getting inside the front of the tent. I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
Not enough ventilation in this set-up. I would get your biolite started outside of this set-up then place it in the front just under the tarp but not inside. Just to be on the safe side. Thanks for watching!
Yes. I'm 6ft, and can sleep sideways. It's a little easier when using an overhead branch as a tie off instead of using a pole. Plenty of room otherwise. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
Yes. It will be close quarters with gear. This set up isn't really for hanging out in but rather just for sleeping. You can remove the center pole and tie the center line to an overhanging branch for more room. Thanks for watching!

Great video. I think I can set one up now.
Beautifully done by master
Thank you kindly
I watched this because just received same tarp
Enjoyed your video
You'll love it! Thanks for watching.
I've got the same set-up, an ILBE pack and a 10x10 Defender tarp.
Nice set up brother
Thanks for watching!
I like that trekking pole-details
The Brand name of the pole is TrailBuddy Trekking Poles.
Great to see the tent from the inside. I was wondering, why do you have sticks attached to the guy lines?
Those are marlin spike hitches, the sticks (toggles) make the lines quick release. Thanks for watching!

in scotland you have to stake everything down to prevent any scots from getting in ^^
In the Scottish Highlands you need to stake down all loops to stop those pesky free roaming wild haggis getting in. 😉

If your tarp keeps you dry and, out of the wind it's a good tarp. Thanks for watching Carlos!

Arc'terix is the brand.

Yes. I'm 6ft, and can sleep sideways. It's a little easier when using an overhead branch as a tie off instead of using a pole. Plenty of room otherwise. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
Nice set up,, do you have a link for the ground cloth you used in this vid ??? Thank in advance !!!;!

Door appears too wide and the back end is flat !
Good, but fire would be too far away to be effective.
Don’t stake out the back center where you pulled the line from?
