I fitted PoweRage (same thing as the Enfield Precision) shorties to mine and found it too loud even with the baffles in. The solution was to add about 3" of proprietary baffle tube to each baffle using JB Weld. Works fine and still sounds good.

For comparison it would be nice to have a profile shot of 1:The OEM pipes 2: The Hitchcock's regular pipes and 3: The shorties. My interest in these pipes is primarily clearance for luggage.

They sound great! I’ve realized watching all you UK Enfield owners that we are very lucky in the US. I even moved to a state that hast stricter regulations and emissions controls, but there are almost no laws regarding how I modify my Interceptor, and it’s completely exempt from emissions regulations for as long as the bike exists. Bless you guys out in Europe!

I picked up these Enfield Precision shorty pipes about a month ago, watched the video you had up for fitting the longer EP pipes to get these on at the time (fitting procedure is exactly the same as you've shown). Going from OEM to these pipes (I also fitted the performance air filter when putting the pipes on) put a massive smile on my face. Felt like I was riding a different bike altogether.
    Thanks for the content Stu!

I have a pair of AEW 103 exhausts in polished stainless steel on my Interceptor. More than the sound, it is the shape and size that won me over. They are about the same size as these but with a shorter reverse cone and look properly proportionate. The mirror polish makes them look OEM and not clash with the chrome fuel tank.
EDIT: Forgot to add the reason for posting this comment. My observations on my exhausts are similar to yours for these new ones so I can relate.

Nice one, Stu. I have found that any modification on the Interceptor 650 I have done so far is quite straight forward - the more seasoned tinkerers would get by without even glancing on instruction sheets (but it is a good habit to glance them over anyway - just in case). I was never a fan of those big up swept pipes on the bike to begin with , along with some other features that I don't find aesthetically pleasing, but the bike is a great platform to make it your own at relative low costs. I opted for a pair of AEW 201's - basically old fashioned pea shooters that due to the angled flange straighten the lines out and tuck them a bit closer in, to be more reminiscent of the old Constellation. It does give the bike a more classic look and it did come with a removable baffles - but I kept them in as I found the bike to be sounding a bit more pleasing that way. The only consideration for these AEW 201's is that they do get in the way when you need to remove the rear wheel, but a work around it to pop off the rear shocks from their top mounting so the swing arm can drop a bit lower, making it possible to remove the rear spindle. I tend to do that anyway as it gives a bit more clearance to move the rear wheel out of position.

Hi Stu, I've had these Shorty's fitting on my Int for the last couple of months now. They are loud and with the baffles out, they are obnoxious 😉. I love them.

  • @oldgeezerproductions
    @oldgeezerproductions Год назад +1

I bought a set of old-fashioned looking horizontal bottle mufflers for my INT 650 to even more remind me of my beloved 1965 Triumph 650. My new mufflers do everything that you mentioned in your video. I too have the baffles left in because they allow just the right amount of "growl" without being too loud. Love that sound and now the exhaust note tells me when to shift without looking at the tach. My only regret is that I didn't know that the mufflers could be had in polished stainless steel. The chrome plating on mine must be one atom thick because I have to keep polishing them or the rust shows. Sound, performance, weight, cargo space, much cooler to the touch and looks, yours or mine are worthwhile changes. By the way, maybe it's just the sound, but I seem to have better low end torque.
To let my ECU adjust to the new gas flow parameters, I pointed the bike upwind, put it on its stand and let it idle for 15 minutes while checking my oil temperature gauge (it never got over 70C).

This is a really simple mod and adds to both the sound and looks of the bike, to me a good sounding bike adds to the enjoyment and when riding I cant really hear the standard exhaust. The polished look is much better than the brushed as it matches the exhaust pipes. I hope they look to do some silencers in the black finish to match the new Interceptor and Continentals.

Ordered them, fitted them. Sound is fantastic! Looks are also awesome (those standard chimneys are way to big!).
Not really content with the polishing though, the high gloss is somewhat tainted by polish scratches. Gonna contact Hitchcoks about it, and or see what I can polish out myself.
Very happy with these shorties overall!

I installed these last night. Ordered them Thursday morning and had them 24 hours later. I'm in the US! Hitchcocks is amazing.
I had an unusual experience installing these though. The stock silencers were sealed with some kind of fiberglass mesh and foil tape that was very hard to get off. I think Royal Enfield usually uses a rubber gasket? Some factory improv I guess.

Agree that the shorter pipes look better, however I am not a fan of those up swept pipes on the R.E. This was one of the reasons (along with others) that I choose the Kawasaki W800 over the R.E.. I might add that both of my Guzzi California bikes have a very slight up swept pipe system which I can get along with. Might be an age thing as when I was younger I liked the up swept pipes, but at 72y.y. it has lost it's allure. Have a beautiful day!! Illinois, USA

Those polished silencers blend in much better than the brushed ones, but boy they aren't cheap! Being a skinflint, four years ago I fitted chrome universal silencers of a similar length & profile as your "shorties" for £70 the pair. "They'll be rusted in no time", they said - but with the Fillingham prep-clean-protect regime, they're still nice & shiny. I did add the optional baffles later, though.

Good morning Stu. Interesting video. I don’t mind the look and sound of the OEM pipes. As you mentioned though, they do get extremely hot. Not so much a problem for me when riding even with my panniers fitted. The biggest problem is putting the bike away. My ground anchor is by the rear wheel which means that I have to wait an hour before I can fit the security chain. When you do the follow up video, can you hold an OEM silencer up against the new one to show the size comparison?

My sentiments exactly Sir. I, too, have the PoweRage polished exhaust installed on my INT 650. They appear to be identical in every way to the Enfield Precision units. Slimmer in size, run much cooler, a more authentic '60's British twin exhaust note, IMO, and weigh 8.95 pounds (4.06 Kg) less than OEM for the pair. I have not removed the dB reducers. Always good to see Stuart feature his Interceptor.

These are Enfield Precision exhausts but their long and short versions look so much like Powerage equivalents, don't they. Even the mounting points and heat shields look the same. In the past, Hitchcocks used to get some parts made in India and then refine them in the UK. I am not sure if that is the case now. We can only guess.

They do you nice but I can't tell from the angle you shot the video from how much shorter they are and I don’t believe you mentioned it either. Something for the next video then 🙂

Why doesn’t some company make some strait pipe pea shooter type exhausts for this bike…? Problem solved for saddlebags then.

No, each time turning a good, beautiful, inexpensive bike into a FANTASTIC, MORE beautiful, slightly less inexpensive bike.😁. For all the tweaks, farkles, upgrades and customisations you do on an Interceptor, it'll still end up being 2/3rds the price of any new bog-standard Triumph!
