- I'll show you how to remove the side panel on the IKEA Sundvik Crib so your toddler can use it as a climb-in child's bed. The steps are similar for most IKEA baby cots that include the sideboard when you purchase it.
Thanks for posting took a while to find a nice clear cut video without fluff. Sometimes you lost the manual and you just need a little help. Thanks again for providing this!
Glad you liked it! Yeah, I just refer to them again for a refresher when I'm taking things apart too....
Manual is also on Ikea website but I love videos like this
Thank you this video. It gave me the confidence to get the job done and the instructions to do it quick. I appreciate your time and know your effort is added value to and saving time for dads like me!
You're welcome!
THank you! Clueless Grandma has been asked to do this today ahead of the arrival of granddaughters!
Just done mine I’ve been putting off for a good month! Thank you ❤ my baby girl is going to have her own bed!!!
do you know how to get the replacement plank for the side? Unfortunately I dont have it but I need it now. I cant find its code and cant order from ikea spares.
How does she sleep without falling off?!
Hey Mate
Can i change the bed level to upper position to match my bed and remove the side door? similar to your this position just the bed height in upper position?
Hey Abdullah Al Faisal,
Did you try removing one side and moving the bed to upper position ? did it work ?
@@pavankumardv1448 let me know if u figured it out🤣 wondering the same thing
Could you tell me the name of the piece where the safety bar rests, as I can't find it on the Ikea website. thanks
My baby crib doesn't have that other pieces 😢😢
yeah a lot of people are missing that piece if they get it 2nd hand. you could try to get it from ikea, or make your own w/ a plank of wood and a saw and a drill...
we bought the “Vikare” piece but there is no way to support it in the cradle without this other one.
I assume you mean that rail/cross beam that you replace on the side? Unfortunately there's no part number for it in the instructions, but it shows up on pg 5 here - www.ikea.com/us/en/assembly_instructions/sundvik-crib-white__AA-750498-7-2.pdf
that piece comes w/ the crib when you buy it, i'm not sure if you can order it separately.
Just be aware that the plastic pieces that cover the holes have screws into them, so you need to remove the screws to remove them from the base unit.
Yes, good point. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough, need your phillips screwdriver!
@@CluelessDad all good. I tried to pop one off and couldn’t understand why I was having so much trouble.
Where to purchase the sideboard?
Thank you, after watching so many other (useless) videos this was great and easy. We’ll instructed 👌
I recently moved apartments and cant seem to find the side panel, any ideas for replacements? Thanks so much!
ikea has a way to order replacement parts, but that may just be for hardware, not sure about this plank specifically. it wouldn't be that hard to make a new one out of a plank of wood (size the board doesn't matter too much as long as the length is correct)
Me needing to switch it from toddler bed back to crib after misplacing the instructions lol
yes, i did that too. then back again after the second kid grows up too.
I have the crib but can’t recall if it came with the wood piece you put to replace the side we are removing, what can I do? Does Ikea sell that piece or will I have to figure something out now?
@Marie Torres , Mine didn't come with that piece of wood.
I have the same issue:(
Oh I bought it off someone and it didn't have the plank, so now the mattress base is not secure enough as it keeps getting loose
You could probably make one but you need a saw and drill...
You can go to customer service and order the piece
Did the plank come with the bed ?or you have to buy it separately ?
do u have a part number for the wooden part
I'm looking for this too 😅
do you know how to get the replacement plank for the side? Unfortunately I dont have it but I need it now. I cant find its code and cant order from ikea spares.
no unfortunately not, i just double checked, there's no part # in the instructions... it looks like they don't offer replacement on 'bigger spare parts', you'd have to call up the store to see if they have it - www.ikea.com/us/en/customer-service/spare-parts/
that said, it wouldn't be /that hard/ to make your own replacement part. just any wooden plank cut to the right length would do, just use wood screws in the existing hole locations on the end pieces....
I lost some of the dowel pins while moving to a different apartment. Do you have any idea where to purchase it or if I still can use the crib if there's missing dowel wooden pins? Thankyou
most hardware stores should have them.
for example Home Depot - www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-1-13-in-x-1-4-in-Fluted-Dowel-Pins-840014/202252099
I picked up a new/unboxed crib for my grand son. no hardware, any ide where to get hardware
you can order them from ikea - www.ikea.com/us/en/customer-service/spare-parts/
Can I place it in the higher level with an open side like this?
you're not supposed to, since the kid can easily roll out, and also it'll be harder for a toddler to get in. (you can't use a Vikare safety rail if its in the higher position too...)
Can you convert it back to a crib?!
Yes. We switched it back for our second kid. Just don't lose anything. ;-)
The 4 pins holding the mattress up seem very flimsy, is it strong enough to support the weight of an adult? I would like to sit on the bed once I convert to a toddler bed but am worried I’ll break it...
Yes it. I lay on it with my daughter and it doesn't fudge. It's really strong and sturdy
Where did that extra wood come from that you placed
It came with the bed.
Thank you 🙏
Did the nuts and screws get pulled out from other part or did you have extra.
its all already used. no extra hardware required. just move their locations.
@@CluelessDad thank you
Awesome video! Great sound quality too! Thank you!
What do you call that panel that put in? Thank you
it's called a side rail or bed rail I think.
@@CluelessDad thank you
Nice video. How can I find two grey brown sideboards?
Thanks
if you don't have the ones that came with the crib you could make your own. basically just need a drill and a saw.
@@CluelessDad Thanks Merry Christmas from Greece.
Would you happen to know if that bird is replaceable or would I be able to build my own?
the replacement board? I don't know if you can buy from IKEA. but I imagine you make your own pretty easily. just use the existing side as a guide for the length and hole positions.
Is there any extra screws or bolts you need? I have the side but nothing else
all the pieces should already be on the crib (use the parts from the existing configuration in the new one)
I bought this crib secondhand 2 years ago and don't have to part that coverts it to a toddler bed. Would it be ok without it or is it important structurally?
sorry for my late reply. yeah you don't need that extra part until the kid is big.... at that point you're probably ready to move to another bed (we switched the new baby to this crib and got the Kritter bed (see other video) for my older kid.
Same situation but I had the gonatt instead, that part is missing now the crib is not stable without it 😓
As a toddler bed, you should be ok without it.
Hi, is there any chance that wooden thing has a number? I bought the cot second hand and I'm missing that. And the only thing they can do is order it online but I haven't got the name or number of it. Could you help me please?
You mean the single wooden plank that goes on the side when you take the side fencing off? unfortunately it doesn't look like there's a separate part number on it (from what I can see on the piece itself and also on the instructions online... they only list part numbers for the fasteners). :-(
I was looking for it too. Your video is amazing. I have this Crib for my baby but now I would like to convert it as you did. Do they sell it in the Ikea o we can just order it everywhere? Thanks
hey, were you able to figure it out?! going through the same problem
Where did you got that board?
it comes with the crib when you buy it.
Hey dads, any expiriences on this one? Did the kids fell off? Just a little bit concerned about it.
Edit: great Video, thx for it
sorry for my late follow up. Yes, there's definitely an issue w/ the kid rolling out of the bed in the middle of the night. but not just rolling out, their legs hanging out off the side as they sleep.
I recommend putting a thick cushion next to the bed so they don't fall if they roll out. Also we ended up putting the lid of a plastic ikea bin against the side, so there's a barrier for him to just rolling out. if he tried to kick it would move out of the way, but having it just be there kept him in place.
Thank you ❤️
How’s the bed holding up? Any bending from the 4 tiny pins?
Still holding up! (on the second kid now!) even though I've taken it apart and moved it twice.
Thank you for the videos…SUPER Helpful!
Eek dont have the piece
You can try to find it from ikea customer service. ... or make your own!
Thanks for video. Really appreciate the share!
how long can a toddler use this bed?
Our kid is 3.5 now and could still use it, but we're moving him to a "KRITTER" bed frame from IKEA so our baby can use the Sundvik in the full crib configuration.
I think probably around 4 or 4.5 you can get away w/ still using this. I recommend getting a safety bar though to make sure your kid doesn't roll out....
Great video, super helpful and saved me faffing around with the instructions! Thanks a mil 👍🏽
You're welcome!
Thank you 2022 here
We just converted ours, and my wife thought we bought one that had a rail to prevent our son from falling out. Is there a part we can use as a rail that Ikea (or anyone) sells? I saw that you mentioned putting things in the way as a barrier, but was curious if there was something you knew of that was more... trustworthy (for lack of a better word)? Thanks!
sorry for my late reply, the clip on rail that Ikea sells is called "VIKARE". Check it. (I demonstrate it in my "Kritter" kids bed review)
Great video, thanks!!
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU 😂 🙏🏼
Thank you for this!
Thank you 😊
Thank you.
Great video!
Very helpful!
Oh gosh, now I can't remember if our crib came with that wooden piece or not 🙊🙈 I didn't think this one converted to a toddler bed 🙊🙈
Thank youuuuuh
this is part of the ikea construction manual...
