Reminded me of an OT goal he got last season against the Panthers, when, after being on the ice for more than 2 minutes in OT, he outraced Tkachuk to a puck and cut in to score.
Objectively, he's one of the top skaters on the team and has been since skating metrics began being tracked by NHL EDGE. It's been talked about since his Islander days that he looks slow, but isn't.
Im surprised no one is talking about Knies saving the game while the net was empty. He stripped the puck on what would have been a clear shot at the empty net, then draws a penalty to set them up. Had his fingerprints all over this game, probably scored a goal.
What I love about Steve saying "take those points and RUN and dont look back" is that we didn't even get a post-game interview post on TML youtube channel lol They literally did just bail and not upload lmao
I don't like this kicking motion thing. Frankly a goal should be scored with a stick... end of story. It can bounce off a defender but for the team on offence its directed in the net with a stick... its a goal, everything else is not a goal.
When you said they needed to grab the 2 points and run, the first thing to pop into my mind was that old commercial where the lady runs out of the store screaming START THE CAR START THE CAR, and I was picturing Taraves skating hard to the bench yelling that! LoL
I almost shut everything down and crawled into my tent. But I thought: hmmm back to back, tough game, maybe they are preserving their energy for the 3rd. Not sure if that was the case but certainly seemed like it post game.
Thank you so much for supporting Blue Heron. They’re such a lovely bookstore with incredible atmosphere and really nice employees. I appreciate you bringing attention to them.
So I've heard from non regular players (No offense Nick I do think u'll become regular once injuries stop) that it MEANS THE WORLD to them when a fan esp a child is wearing their jersey because it doesn't happen that often.
Referees were abysmal tonight, but besides that, that was a damn good win for the team and honestly, I hope it’s a sign for the future. I’d like to think of it as a character win to come back like that at the end.
I'm admittedly pretty casual on the Leafs, but are they known for that? I can't think of any notable, recent examples. Seems like they'd usually better be up, or within 1 going into 3rd.
Caps fan here: the GI on Carlsons goal was WEAK, The knee goal should have been a good goal, Knies tip in goal his stick started high so in real time i thought it was a high stick but on review it was just about crossbar height so the call on the ice was determining factor, the penalty with 1 minute left - I want that called that way for the whole season - it was absolutely a penalty. Leafs fought back hard and didn't allow Caps to ice the game. Good hockey
Leafs fan based in Europe here. Interesting point about the rules of NHL being complicated to understand. I agree, but I also watch a lot of soccer and the elite leagues have managed to complicate the rules of what is a simple game. Since they've introduced video reviews there has been confusion abound.
Some of Leaf effort may have been lacking lately but 6 out of 8 points in two sets of back to back games in a 6 day period without Awesome Matthews ( I changed his first name to something more appropriate) is very a good result. The next three games are, all at home, over a two week period. Who makes the NHL schedule?? All teams play back to back games. Leafs seem to get more. We never seem to catch many teams on back to backs and when we do we are on one too. Look at the last two sets of back to backs. First 2 at home, two days off, then next game (Ottawa) at home, next night in Washington. This is a brutal travel schedule. Good on Leafs to come away with two points in this one. With the number of off days in the Leafs schedule in next two games, surely a better job could gave been done here. Schedule maker should be punished. I would make him watch all 82 games of the Montreal Canadien schedule.
16 b-2-b...so 32 games of an 82 game season. I'm guessing that will be brought up in the GM meetings AND maybe in the next CBA. I remember a stat from a few years ago collected over a few seasons that more players get hurt - and the recovery time is longer - on the second of back to back games. Granted correlation doesn't always mean causation, and being the NHL they'll likely need a few more decades of stats before they'll make a change.
I was in the barn for this game and I gotta say it: our boys gotta lighten up on the pepper they’re putting on their passes. It seemed like every pass they made kept bouncing over their stick because it was too powerful. Great W tho!!
It’s the NHL, if ya try those weak sauce passes they get pounced on. They have to put some stink on the passes to get them there. Yea you will have some to hot to handle but float soft fat pizzas around the ice and you will be on the Marlies by the end of the week.
I am DYING with some of the shit in this video man. The tiny Morgan Reilly had me absolutely busted up laughing. Loved it. Go leafs. ( fan-effing-tastic tandem we got here when they're on )
I said I have to watch LFR after the 2nd disallowed goal. I said I really couldn't wait to watch LFR after the Leafs came back and won. An absolute riot of a video. The knee movement was in finger flick theme, and had me laughing every time. I'm in agreement with you, I'm confused AF about the reviews. And not just because I'm blonde. I thought the 2nd goal was good, and believe me I yelled a certain cow manure expletive. Which the refs can eat, because JT took that two points and went road runner! LEAFS WIN! Best comeback and LFR of the season
Steve mayyyyy be getting a dusting of Gray on the dome -- but the Commentary is full of the same manic energy he's had since 2007. #Alwaysapleasure 🙏 #GoLeafsGo #LeafsFansince1966
Hmm, I didn’t really notice much from that…. Like I don’t think it’s enough to make a GIF of it, let alone Scrat the Squirrel 🐿️‼️…..Well, I know Steve Could do an impression of Scrat, yeah‼️😂😂😂
Caps fan here, watch the game again with the thought in mind that the caps are trying to force pucks to ovi like the leafs try to force plays to matthews. It was so frustrating to watch. The protas goal is the perfect example and he's lucky he got that one.
@DeathorGlory91r caps had the 29th powerplay in the nhl heading in to that game and I believe it's for the exact same reason the leafs were 31st before the matthews injury.
Did anyone else catch Knies in the blue paint on the Marner goal hit Thompson’s stick with his skate?I immediately threw my hands up saying Of COURSE! But then it wasn’t reviewed at all.
Great game, always good to see a comeback! I'm in the opposite camp I think the knee goal was a full hacky-sack play, high stick goal should have counted though!
Here’s something funny. I knew the leafs core 4 was insane, but I never realized how insane until I saw you talking about McDavid on the SDP yesterday. Fun fact. Did you know that in a hypothetical world, if we dropped Tavares and Marner, assuming contracts stayed the same, we could have a new core 4 of Matthews, Nylander, McDavid and Kucherov at a cap hit less than $100,000 more than our current core 4. I want you to sit there and imagine what a Knies-McDavid-Matthews line would do to the league. Imagine having the leagues best goal scorer on a line with the best playmaker since Gretzky, and combine it with a monster of a dump truck who likes to shake his booty two inches in front of the goaltenders face.
Steve, I need you and Ian to do live commentary for a Leafs-Caps game. I need this. Can’t do it with Peter, he’s too stressed out, but for sure with Ian. DO IT!
So I was working nights. Couldn't watch it. But when things slowed down. I logged into a computer to stream it secretly. 1 minute left. 15 seconds later marner ties it. I scream. Everyone surrounds me and now we are watching OT together.
You're absolutely right, the Leafs won, let's be happy! It's amazing that a sport like hockey, and teams that you follow like we do as Leaf fans, the emotional investment in their success and winning games, and how it can impact your day!! Quite incredible, I must admit. So the Leafs won, let's be happy as Steve says. Simple ;)
I obviously have to watch video over and over again because I’m missing stuff…..How did he come up with Heist??…. Hahaha, right away I found it at 11:27 when I figured out what Heist is short for‼️
That was exactly what happened to the Leafs in game 7 against Boston last year. If sammy came out to play the puck Pasta wouldn't have had the chance, but just like Pasta, Johnny T comes in off the side boards cross crease and boom stuffs it home for the win. Now do it in the playoffs boys.
Capitals stood around most of the game and watched the Leafs muff things up. Funny and messy game. Tavares took advantage of his old age brand and surprised everybody as usual.
11:05 As a fan of Football (the European one) I can say that because of VAR (video assisted referee) they have changed what a hand ball is like 3 times since 2018 and I don't even know what it means anymore, so it's not just a hockey problem
I think as soon as he starts scoring he won't be scratched. His effort is so much more consistent this year, and he's doing little things right. But until he starts creating some offence it won't matter.
I'm glad we traded for Lars Eller because Nic Dowd needs to fucking sit for a game after that. You get payback when the refs aren't looking and not when the guys carrying the puck up open ice with less than a minute left in regulation with a one goal lead.
I compare the Lorentz goal to headbutting the puck into the net. If you don't put it in with your stick, the refs can say it was directed into the net with whatever body part it touches. He did lift his foot and it bounced off his thigh. I think if he just keeps his feet planted to the ice and skates towards the net, it counts.
hey Steve, just letting you know that I’ve had a curse on the Leafs this whole time. but I’ve decided to lift it today. they’ll be up and down all season but no worries, they’ll win the cup.
Ovechkin is 32 goals away from passing Gretzky. Except that's only to pass his regular season goal total. Gretzky total goals all time is 1016. Ovechkin total goals is at 935 so he's still 81 goals away to be the best goal scorer all time
Can someone explain to me, an admitted casual fan, how they're suffering with Matthews not in the lineup? Since Auston joined the team, they have nearly twice as many wins than losses when he is injured or otherwise not available. This is not to say "trade the bum", but to me that is an indicator that the team relies too much on Auston when he is there, and the rest of the team turns it down a couple notches when he's back.
The Leafs are really emulating the Canucks for success. Coach that played for the Flyers in the 80s, comeback in the third period from multiple goals down.
I have never seen Tavares skate so hard and fast. We should start calling him Turbo Turtle Johnny. Great come back. Waitago Buds.
Contract year...
@chrisonydotcom2317 that dosent matter. He will take less than his value to stay either way i would bet
@Gl-my8fw As much as we have overpaid him the last few years, he'd better...
Im surprised no one is talking about Knies saving the game while the net was empty. He stripped the puck on what would have been a clear shot at the empty net, then draws a penalty to set them up. Had his fingerprints all over this game, probably scored a goal.
seriously he is a force of nature, almost got a few goals, no win without him
Great game for him
Also single handedly set up the goal that started the comeback on Willie’s goal
He's only getting better
I agree they dont win that game at all without knies
Tavares didn't lose his Captain C, he was promoted to Admiral A
he was promoted to Amulet A
Captain Cook in Hawaii: It's a trap!
Hmm 🤔…… “ITS A TRAP‼️”
Captain America: CA
Admiral Canada: AC
The A is for Amulet
Get the Eh knee lift in the intro for next season.
Instead of "LETS GO" it's "Eh" and then QUE INTRO MUSIC
What I love about Steve saying "take those points and RUN and dont look back" is that we didn't even get a post-game interview post on TML youtube channel lol
They literally did just bail and not upload lmao
Can’t blame them to be honest. What a terrible schedule to start the year. They def just wanted to go home.
That kicking motion noise "eeeh" better make it into next seasons intro
I was thinking the same thing
I don't like this kicking motion thing. Frankly a goal should be scored with a stick... end of story. It can bounce off a defender but for the team on offence its directed in the net with a stick... its a goal, everything else is not a goal.
that doesnt make sense ^^
".. like a Max out of Domi" had me wheezing at work so hard I had to step off the forklift to make sure I did not crash.
When you said they needed to grab the 2 points and run, the first thing to pop into my mind was that old commercial where the lady runs out of the store screaming START THE CAR START THE CAR, and I was picturing Taraves skating hard to the bench yelling that! LoL
Good one.😂
😂😂
it really is always a pleasant surprise when i stop watching at the end of the 2nd and then i get a notification after the game that the leafs won.
Omg same. I was depressed last night and the leafs weren't making it better.
I totally should have expected this
Same. LoL
I shut it off at intermission thinking a win was out of reach.
Pleasant surprise for a Thursday morning.
I almost shut everything down and crawled into my tent. But I thought: hmmm back to back, tough game, maybe they are preserving their energy for the 3rd.
Not sure if that was the case but certainly seemed like it post game.
Me too! I thought the victory puppy routine was sarcasm!

Steves knee raise better be in LFR 19 intro
So I've heard from non regular players (No offense Nick I do think u'll become regular once injuries stop) that it MEANS THE WORLD to them when a fan esp a child is wearing their jersey because it doesn't happen that often.
We all assume that today was the win and we did it in a leafy way
2:40 “How am I not bald?!” Should be harvested for the intro to LFR 19 next season.

That and last episode when he doesn't show up, but hat guy did.
Referees were abysmal tonight, but besides that, that was a damn good win for the team and honestly, I hope it’s a sign for the future. I’d like to think of it as a character win to come back like that at the end.
Refs had some tough calls. I think they were ok
I disagree, I think that was a very tough game to call
@@rustysalmonella7681 I think they should have just gone to the situation room for several of the calls.
"*eeh*"
I'll be hearing that in my sleep. Thanks, Drew. 😡
God I needed this laugh today! Thank you! 🙏🏻😂
"Eeh" needs to be in the LFR19 intro 😂
It was great to see Johnny T have a great game. Something about that makes me feel good :) beyond the 2 points
"Gotta pee? No ya don't: hold it." should be in a future FTR into.
I seem to remember a certain podcaster saying the Leafs weren't capable of playing from behind a couple hours ago 😂
I'm admittedly pretty casual on the Leafs, but are they known for that? I can't think of any notable, recent examples.
Seems like they'd usually better be up, or within 1 going into 3rd.
Before last night they had 17 goals in the 3rd… good for 31st according to the broadcast.
Seems like it was pretty accurate 😬

I give the leafs a ton of credit for getting better as that game went on which is impressive to see for a second game in a back to back
Great LFR. Loved the great theft tonight! The boys earned it. JT’s overtime goal was just fantastic!!❤🎉
The most Leafiest win of the season (so far)
somebody please make a GIF of the knee! 🤣🤣🤣
Game 18 already. Wow.
What, is Gary Bettman deliberately trying to make the NHL season go faster?
Great LFR and the icing on the cake is working with Blue Heron book store in Uxbridge. It's an amazing bookstore!
You split my gut Steve. Luv ya man!
Steve - awesome thing you’re doing with Blue Herron. You are a an awesome hearted person. Love it!

Thank you again, Mr. Steve!!! Leafs WIN and now we need Auston back and let’s get a winning streak going and then we see what happens next.
