In 1969 I bought a new Roadrunner 383 4 speed Hurst shifter. Cost $2,803. Color..suffice yellow with a tan vinyl roof and tan interior. In 1973 I had a motorcycle accident and was paralyzed. I spent 7 months in hospitals and rehab. I was allowed to come home for Christmas on leave from Hines VA. Shortly after Christmas I caught my wife on the phone with her boy friend. She said she wanted a divorce. Well that happened and I can't to my parents and got rehab here and there. I gave her the new house, car and all for my kids. I got married in 1977 to my current wife. In 1989 my daughter tracked down the Roadrunner and got it for me. Love that girl!!
First car in 1976 was a one owner 68 Plymouth roadrunner 383. 4 speed white car black hood. Second car I bought 68 gtx 440 auto bucket seats console green vinyl top and interior and white car wish I still owned them. Paid 700 for the roadrunner running condition. Gtx paid 1000 it ran but needed overhaul but car was beautiful
WHAT A GREAT RE - UNION STORY !!! WHAT A SON , WE HAD A SMALL DEALERSHIP IN OUR HOMETOWN , THE HAD A NEW RED 64 PLYMOUTH FURY WITH A 426 WEDGE 2 - DOOR HARDTOP WITH THE CONSOLE ON THE FLOOR !!! ITS A BEAUTIFUL WAGON , NOTHING LIKE LOYALTY TO MOM AND DAD AND THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION !!!
Wow! How sweet it is to have surprised your wonderful parents with their former family wagon. But we all know that you are the one that will drag race the Plymouth. Thank you, for the share. Cheers!
what an great story - your parents are delightful- I grew up with Plymouth wagons during the 60s and 70s - my mother’s first 2 cars were a 62 Dodge Lancer and a 64 Dart - both 4 door sedans with push button automatics but no PS PB or air conditioning in either - 3 boys in our family by 64 - our first of many Plymouth wagons was a 66 Belvedere II 3 seat wagon - it had automatic PS PB factory Airtemp air conditioning - Mom was so happy to finally have power steering, power brakes and air conditioning it came with a 318 - my grandfather liked trading so we later traded for a succession of Sport Suburbans in 68, 70, 72 and then a Gran Fury Sport Suburban in 1975
I think I emailed the guy selling it nj. He had told me that it was not ready for sale yet. I would much rather your father have his baby back anyway! It has to the same guy. This is such a beautiful thing you did for your family!
A rare one indeed. I had a 1964 Valiant with the four speed. One time, I removed the carpet, and I could see where the where the floor had been modified to accommodate the transmission. They had welded in a pre-fabricated piece for the the larger transmission.
I had a 1964 Plymouth Fury in 1969. It was a great car. I enjoyed it because of the bench seat, 361 engine and push button transmission. Bright red color didn't hurt with picking up girls either.
That is so cool, buying the car that you grew up with back for your dad.My dad ordered a 1968 Town & Country wagon with a hemi and after months of waiting, discovered that it couldn't be done.We ended up with 440 Magnum and hemi 727.Sold for $275.00 during gas crunch of '74.I've looked and looked for it,probably crushed. Nice job.You were so lucky.
What a great story. I look on eBay for 1964 Fury stuff all the time. Many years ago, I think I did see a 1964 Fury wagon with a 361 and factory air conditioning.
Very cool! I have always been enamored of the 64 Plymouth, never had a wagon, but have had all the other versions, 2 426S cars, I think at one time I added them up to 18 of them. I noticed that A/C was added, and maybe an AM/FM radio? I only have random little pieces left now, sob sob. Very nice story, great to see your parents had such good memories of the car! Congratulations!
Thank you, oddly fascinating video with, Stories, History, etc. A few other Manufacturers:Wagons, luxury Models, etc. , have been produced with odd options (*4SPD)…. ANYWAYS, My Parents had the **1959 Dodge Coronet, 9 Pass/ Rear Face SEAT, AUTOMATIC Push Button** no,AIR CONDITIONER !!) for us five Kids, etc. FINALLY, **I found a nice 1966 FORD GALAXIE **500/ XL *\4 SPEED/352/4BBL in 1967….. ( seemed like fairly Cheap Deal at Chrysler Plymouth DEALER, only Manuel on the Lot):: improved & built up fir many years…….ps:: only heard of a few other STATION Wagons (;Country Squire Fire, Chrysler ) Optioned , Special build 4/Speed..

Yes, factory-like A/C was added somewhere along the way. It's the original AM radio. Thanks for your comments.
